They removed one option and added two other options. If you see that as an overall removal of options, I don't know. Steve Jobs said (probably multiple times) that one has to think very hard before adding an option/feature because removing any option/feature is very hard (in regard to public opposition). Removing an option that one million people want generates more downside in regard to publicity than adding an option that ten million people want generates in upside.

Or they could have just continued with 3 options and made more people happy. Its not that hard. 4 Inches is perfect for many people. The demand will grow when large numbers of people upgrade from their 5's and 5s's.

I agree iPod sales will continue to decline with or without this update. But as much as I would love to see extended FaceTime Audio, I think they will most likely continue the "c" line of iPhones as a cheaper alternative.
I hope you are right about the c line, especially if they keep the smaller size. But even with that, the iPod is still cheaper and would therefore be more accessible. Seriously, with things like google voice or even facebook available to make phone calls to pretty much anyone (without the cost of skype), it makes no sense that Apple has not done this. Unless they are afraid that it will eat into their iphone sales (although the margins are the same so it should not matter).

I wish they added option for front color also (iPod Touch + iPhone). I had a white 3GS which had a black front, but since then, only the black or space grey devices have a black front.

Would love a blue iPhone 6S with a black front (rather than white).

I see. So the sales of a multi billion $$ corporation sway your empathy for your fellow everyday folks who wish they could have the latest tech at the size they prefer.

Think that over sometime if you ever take time to evaluate your place in this world.
So the empathy for the potential 4" iPhone 6 buyers should outweigh the empathy for the 6+ buyers (following the suggestion of introducing a 4 and 4.7" instead of a 4.7 and 5.5" iPhone)? But I guess empathy for somebody 'loosing' something (a current tech 4" iPhone) weighs more than the empathy for somebody 'gaining' something (the 6+)?

The new A8 iPod Touch will be great for game emulators! It should slot nicely into my Logitech Powershell and be great for running emulators like PSPPSS.

I currently have an iPhone 5c in there, but the A5 doesn't quite have enough oomph to emulate, say, PSP games at full speed. The A8, on the other hand, should have plenty!
The iPhone 5c has an A6.

Ah, looks like it is only the gold Touch - the home button outlining is gold! The other models are white (though I swear I saw a promotional image where the blue iPod had a blue outline as well)
Ah I see, good spot!

When Apple can double the iPod storage for $50, why can't they do the same on the iPhone? Why do you have to pay $100 to get the next level of storage on the phone?

I agree. One note to add is the iPhone5s costs $50 to double storage although previously it was $100.

Ha ha habemus new ipod touch haters! Im buying one of course better later than never i guess, a8 is nice, 2 gb ram would have been much better...

Apple is halfway there now. They finally got the storage right releasing the 128GB model, but $400 to get that much storage is outrageous. The iPod Classic was the last reasonably priced iPod that had sufficient storage. Wait trying to force users into a higher end product than they want.

My point that you took out of context earlier, (either intentionally or not). is that Steve is wrong.

you dont HAVE to remove anything.
Oh yes, you have to remove something from time to time. Otherwise you end up like Dell with dozens of different computer models or Samsung with also a double-digit number of phone models. Remember what Steve Jobs did to the number of different computer models Apple sold when he came back in 1998? He reduced it drastically.

Let me tell you a little anecdote from a few years back. My university offered discounted laptops from Apple and one PC manufacturer (I think it was IBM/Lenovo) to its students and employees. One of my colleagues switched from a PC to a Mac using this programme. Guess what she said afterwards to me why she got a Mac? Because there was less choice with them, making the decision which model to get easier.

Are you serious? ALL they did was add new colors to the Nano and call it “NEW?” And it's STILL $149 according to Apple's site.

I'd agree. The Touch upgrade was at least significant in terms of physical/performance changes. The Nano? They should just have killed it off if they are unable to provide a meaningful upgrade for Nano.

That's too bad... I was really hoping for a complete revamp of the iPods that would be Apple Music (wifi) compatible.

New iPod Touch with no Touch ID? Wow, I guess will need to wait another few years for those to show up.

It always depends on what you compare it to. A 128 GB iOS device for $400 is a steal, an iPhone with that amount of storage costs $850. A 128 GB iPad mini is $600. Yes, an iPod classic was much cheaper ($250) but an iPod touch can do an enormous amount of other things compared to an iPod classic. It all boils down to Apple not offering all imaginable options.
