An iPod classic for $250 + a 16 GB iPhone 5s for $550 costs the same as a 128 GB iPhone 6 (using a 5c makes the combo cheaper using a 6 makes it more expensive). The only time I had a drop damage on any of my devices was when I wanted to demonstrate to somebody that my iPhone screen doesn't shatter if I drop it from chair height. I constantly drop my phone from that height but 95% of the time it's with headphones plugged in, which slow down the fall considerably about 20 cm above the ground (which is when the end of the headphone cable is reached). I drop my phone either when sitting on a chair (or getting up) because it slips out of my pocket or when I catch something with the headphone cable which yanks the phone out of my pocket.I agree. It comes down to the lack of options. As someone who owns an iPhone, I don't feel the need for the ability to have apps and games on my iPod, I can do that on my phone. I don't like the idea of working out and having to worry about dropping my $400 iPod touch and breaking the screen. To me, the iPod Classic was the last one true to the original iPod. It was designed to be able to go anywhere, hold all of your music, and be able to take a little bit of a beating without worrying and it didn't come at a premium price.(Not saying it was cheap, but a $150 difference is a big deal) The iPod touch just feels like a lot of people that are shopping for a commuter car are being forced into buying a Porsche.
first look but the Touch now has a flash!
You know what to buy then.Shuffle still 2Gb for £40, when it's competitors are 4Gb for £15, or 8Gb with a colour screen, video playback FM radio, voice recording for £30. Pretty shabby deal from Apple!
Quite an impressive update for a product nobody actually cares about.
What makes you think there will be an iPhone C again?I'm not buying an iPod but really like them. The next iPhone C should be like the new iPods with touchID, a white bezel and color in the back.
Honestly, if people were ignorant enough to buy a mini 3 then thats on them. This new touch is a little speed demon, and theres nothing wrong with that.So let me get this straight…the iPod Touch is now faster than the iPad Mini 3 and half the price? That's pretty hilarious.
Now if only Apple could do the same with a 4" iPhone. I know many people who want a 4" upgrade and refuse to buy anything larger. Lots of holdouts. You can't tell me a 4" iPhone 6S "Mini" wouldn't far outsell this new iPod Touch, and yet Apple still put effort into developing this new iPod Touch.
I'm using an iPhone 5 in my bathroom to listen to music, enter info in MyFitnessPal, use Siri to add reminders and appointments while getting ready for the day, etc. The iPhone loses the wifi signal every day so I was thinking about adding an iPod touch. Was looking forward to this iPod refresh and didn't dream they wouldn't include Touch ID. Without it the purchase doesn't really feel worthwhile. This is a poor update really.
It basically makes the ipod faster but adds nothing new to the line.
Really it should have had Touch ID. In two years this device will be a vintage item. The Iphone 7 after the 6S next year will likely have a higher retina display 4" is quite poor. The 6S will also have force touch as a selling point so they could have added Touch ID.
I have the 5th generation IPod but it's barely worth the update even though it's rather slow. I use it as more storage and I like a variety of screen sizes to my Iphone 6.
Why not just get it now? Refurbs will be several months away and only, what, $60 less?
Apple today introduced the sixth-generation iPod touch with a 4-inch display, 64-bit A8 chip and M8 motion coprocessor, 8-megapixel rear-facing iSight camera and new colors: blue, pink, silver, space gray, gold and red. 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models are available through the Apple Online Store starting today for $199, $249 and $299 respectively, while a new larger 128GB model was introduced for $399.

The new iPod touch also features 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1, no longer has a loop attachment and comes with iOS 8.4 preinstalled for access to Apple Music and Beats 1. The 128GB and (PRODUCT)RED models will be sold exclusively through Apple, while all other colors and storage capacities should be available through authorized resellers such as Best Buy and Walmart in the near future.

Apple also updated the iPod shuffle and iPod nano with a matching lineup of colors, but no other hardware or storage capacity changes to the devices were made. iPod nano and iPod shuffle maintain their prices of $149 and $49 respectively and currently ship within 1 business day on the Apple Online Store.iPods have become an increasingly minor business for Apple over the past several years, with only 2.6 million units sold in Q4 2014, the last quarter when Apple reported iPod sales. Beyond new colors and storage capacities, Apple had last updated the iPod touch and nano in October 2012 and the iPod shuffle in September 2010.

This makes me so so happy! I am 45 years old and have never needed a cell phone, much less an iPhone. The iPod is one of the best devices in the world!! What a great update to the touch. As far as I am concerned people can have their iPhone's. Let it ring all day, to me the Touch is so private and so perfect for everyday use. Thank YOU APPLE!!!! THANK YOU.
People have these little creatures follow them around...I think they're called kids? Why would you want to buy a iPod touch, you either buy an iPhone or go for the nano. This is just a iPhone with which you cannot make phone calls..... Its like a car without a motor.
I am using a Garmin GLO Bluetooth GPS with my iPod touch 5G, works great. Is it possible to use external GPS device with iPod Touch?
