I find the CPU matching to be strange. The iPad Mini 3 got an A7 with TouchID. Now we have a Touch with an A8 but no Touch ID. Not to mention the A8 is massively overpowered for such a device.
Apart from the 4 vs 4.7" screen size, why would an iPhone 6 need massively more computing power than an iPod touch?

This may be a small part of Apple's numbers, but it actually still has relevance and potential. My kids are not old enough to have a $700+ iPhone, but very much use their iPod Touch for virtually everything else.

I'm a little surprised Apple hasn't marketed the iPod touch for specifically that use. iPod touch when you are 10 years old, iPhone when you are ...that's a whole other debate.

Still got that ugly sticky outy camera….

Love the A8 upgrade, its an amazing amount of power for this little screen...and 128GB (my classic finally has a replacement available). Nice job Apple.

I like Apple but there is only one problem. Their products are too expensive. But $199 seems pretty good next to a $1000 iPhone. But considering tax and import duties it will end up costing nearly $300 outside America at which point its better to get a cheap but powerful android phone like Asus Zenphone 2 or Moto G 2nd Gen all of which cost about $200.

This probably means the manufacturing yields on the A8 chip are so good, it's cheaper to use the new 20 nm chip than to continue production of the old 32 or 45 nm A5. Which also means that there might be a lot of room for a nice price reduction on the 6 when the new successor phone comes out.

Plus this proves the battery in a 4" device can run the A8 as well.

Good update but sucks that there is no Touch ID. I read that it has 1 GB of system ram which is very cool. It runs a bit slower but it still is a beast!

They probably don't want to pigeonhole something that already doesn't sell particularly well, advertising it as being for kids might put off some potential adult customers (not saying that I necessarily think like that, but I'm sure some might)... although thinking about it, if that then causes some to stray towards an iPhone instead then that would actually be beneficial for Apple, to a point.

Pretty much what I've been saying all along. iPhone 6c, anyone?
