This is literally the only thing Spotify has that Apple Music was missing.

Not nearly enough to make me think about switching, though, I have to wonder about all those that claimed this was a dealbreaker to not using Apple Music.

Spotify has an application

Also, I love controlling my music with my Apple Watch while playing MH: World on xbox. Or fiipping music from Xbox to my Mac seamlessly.

better playlist. . .

Great start, but I do have two ( very minor and edge cased) issues, though:

1. No access to the iTunes Music Store. I realize that this is all about Apple Music, but it'd be nice to have an area to buy music for those who still like to do so (I rarely do so, but still). This is especially true for Japanese users since they still like buying music.....

But outside of those two, it's fine.

iTunes store? Why would anyone want to BUY music, HAHAHA! We don't need musicians! Music grows on trees!!!!!! Just pay ten bucks a month to a corporation to rent the tree.....

Its beta but I will take it and I don't have to use unofficial . I have been waiting for an official web player for ages now and I can finally not use that bloat that is iTunes anymore. Since it is beta I will keep it installed for now.

Something that are missing though is the ability to sort "My Music" from Artist titles, right now you can only sort by Album titles.

Nice that they've bothered to do this, there have been several third party solutions for this for while though which work fine.

That's exactly what I was thinking, but I couldn't remember the site name. Bit sad we now have a chorus of 'about time' when a small dev shop, using Apple's own APIs, did this almost a year before Appel did and now, indeed, got Sherlocked.

Been using Musi.sh for while when I'm not working on a Mac, works really well.

Um.... I don't know if that's true. Maybe I am wrong, but I have some music that I created when I was younger, and if I go solely to Apple Music, I think i will likely lose access to them because they aren't in the public arena, nor published on iTunes.

I'm not 100% but fairly confident.

I can confirm that with just apple music you can have stuff you've uploaded. I have music I have written myself that I have access to in apple music in iTunes, and that stuff also is showing up for me in this new beta.

Nope you can drag any music file (mp3, wav at least) over your itunes window, or open it any other way in iTunes Apple Music, and it will upload it to the cloud and make it available on any device. It is iTunes Match, but you only have to have Apple Music for it to work. I had Match but switched to Music years ago and it has always kept working just like Match.

nvmd it has been answered a few times already..

I was expecting them to announce this at the iPhone event but typical Apple usually mentions things like this outside events. Also I have a feeling that the new MacOS Apple Music app is just a wrapper to a web browser player anyway so it makes sense to release it as standalone player for those on Windows and Linux. I also see them discontinue iTunes for Windows and pointing them to the web player.

I also like how since it is the web player I can uBlock the horrible "New Music Mix" and it does not even show the artwork on the homepage which means no more offensive "rap" garbage even though as long as I have Apple Music I have not listened to one second of that garbage.

Literally only?

How about:

-A much, much, much better UI that does not try to scald eyes at any time of day.
-A much, much, much better UI without stupid amounts of empty space and gigantic headers.
-Native applications for any device?
-Using the application on any device as a remote for other devices logged into the same account, or on the same network

I don't understand the appeal of Apple Music.

Can't sign in on Chrome. Or, I get an error saying 'cannot create Apple ID on this device'. I'm not trying to create a new one, I'm just trying to sign in!! Gah

I had iTunes match with over 1k songs from artist that are out of print, not purchased on iTunes and not available in Apple Music. Just like with Match, when you use Apple Music it attempts to match and if it cannot, it uploads those songs into your iCloud Music Library and you can access/play them at any time from any device with Apple Music.

Thank you, friend. You have saved me $50 per year (me and my gf have been separately paying for iTunes match, while we are on an Apple Music family plan). I wish Apple would have told me it was redundant, because it's auto-renewed at least twice now since having Apple Music!

No, that is not the case. Apple Music includes the full Match functionality. I have a lot of albums that aren't available through Apple Music and it just uploads them to the cloud, just like Match does with songs it can't, uh, match. ;)

I have wasted $100 renewing match the last couple of years for me and my gf. We have an Apple Music plan, but I was in fear of what might have been lost by canceling Match. Well, I was more fearful of her losing something that couldn't be replaced, as I never figured out if there was a way to know which is 'her' music vs Apple Music.

Since I have very slowly growing music library (my taste in music gravitates toward older music), I have zero interest in Apple Music.

Apple should just roll iTunes Match into $2.99/month 200GB and $9.99/month 2TB iCloud subscriptions, using the storage space for un-matched music. Maybe charge $1/month extra for this iCloud Music Library feature if it's not sustainable.

Doing so would significantly increase the value of HomePod and iCloud subscriptions. Something about the name "iTunes Match" throws me off.

Anyway, Apple Music on the Web sounds like Apple TV+ will also have a web counterpart someday.

It's built in Ember, interesting. Looking forward to reverse engineering the code. Interestingly, a lot of the code is not minified and all of their inline documentation is there lol

Pretty sure they have already confirmed that they aren't doing that.

Its not just about music playback. If they did away with iTunes on Windows they would be making device management difficult for anybody who doesn't have access to a Mac.

Impressive, it also has my iTunes Match music, which streams as well.

Hey, read through the first couple of pages of comments regarding iTunes Match. It seems that we are paying for iTunes Match for nothing, as it is baked into Apple Music already, and can safely be canceled. I quoted a couple of these instances, right above your post.

If you sign up for Apple Music does it mess with ANYTHING in your iTunes library? Didn't signing up for something used to do that? Music Match, was it? Where it would replace songs and stuff? Don't want any part of that. Thanks!

Apple Music is a seperate section in iTunes and the Music app, your library stays there untouched, and from Apple Music you can add to your library. Create playlists or add albums etc from Apple Music.

Wanted to listen to Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness last night on Apple Music. It had been removed (maybe because I’m in Japan). Considering canceling it. How do you not have that album?!

For number 1, I think that is the way they are going — just like how Music and the iTunes Store is separated in iOS now.

For number 2, I think — again — it's just mimicking the iOS app that limits how far back into "Recently Added" you can go. If you are used to the current macOS version of iTunes over the iOS version then that would absolutely make sense.
That’s fair, but again, my issues are edge cases, so I’m not upset about it.
