I would love to login to Apple music (not via web) on my work mac. My work mac has a different Apple ID. I only want to use my personal Apple ID voro Apple Music and use my work Apple ID for all other purchases and functionalities. Guess this will not happen.

This is literally the only thing Spotify has that Apple Music was missing.

Not nearly enough to make me think about switching, though, I have to wonder about all those that claimed this was a dealbreaker to not using Apple Music.

There's the whole free/ad supported tier - that's pretty huge.

I always access via iTunes on my Mac but with possible changes coming to iTunes this may be a better way. Time will tell.

It is a nice addition and surely a long awaited one, but one has tro wonder, can we see a "Chrome OS" kinda thing in the future from Apple?

iWork is on the cloud, Apple Music is on the cloud. they just need to add iMovie on the cloud and they are pretty much set for a cloud based os (the iCloud homescreen is pretty much it as it is now..).

After this version is released, will they keep releasing the standalone app?
I can see the Windows version at least to be dumped, and in the future the Mac version too, as it is easier to mantain only one cloud based version.

I guess time will tell, but what might sounds grat now can turn very sour, i do not want an os to be bound to online only.

Um.... I don't know if that's true. Maybe I am wrong, but I have some music that I created when I was younger, and if I go solely to Apple Music, I think i will likely lose access to them because they aren't in the public arena, nor published on iTunes.

I'm not 100% but fairly confident.

I have music I have created that has been uploaded and can be streamed or downloaded using Apple Music.

I think it tries to match and if it cannot match it uploads.

I wish the iPad app looked like this. Why can't we have a sidebar there? It's so much easier to navigate.

Hopefully they add playlist management, folders and uploading tracks that are not on Apple Music. That way I can finally uninstall the worst program ever made for Windows: iTunes

Yikes at how off base this comment is. It’s simply untrue, in my experience/opinion. Spotify’s main attraction are its Discover Weekly and Release Radar curated playlists. As well as recently their Daily Mix 1-6 playlists, all based off of their terrific algorithms.

I’ve discovered so many great artists through their curating, artists I had never heard of before in most cases, but I enjoyed the music. In my experience Apple Music tended to recommend artists or songs that I’ve already listened to or knew existed, very little new exposure. Plus the interface is still a complete unintuitive disaster, a total nightmare on a design aesthetic level, almost an embarrassment.

Well, it's great you love Spotify. The good thing about all streaming services is that many more artists are being discovered. Apple Music has those features as well, I get several curated playlists each week. Apple Music is the "little" player in the streaming wars right now and many have built listening habits with Spotify over the years, but Apple Music is certainly worth checking out if you already are in the Apple eco-system. When it comes to algorithms, Apple Music is brilliant. I engage heavily and get a ton of new artists and I listen to a TON of different music.

I like Spotify, but have no need for it. They simply don't have any music Apple Music doesn't have. The UI is fine, it's built for mobile, Apple is going for the pure lighter design, Spotify feels old compared to it, but UI on either platform has never been a deciding factor for me. The only thing I want from Apple Music is being able to play a friends playlist (they have the feature in iTunes) but Apple has never been great at social features.

Nice! And it respects dark mode!

Even respects dark mode settings...:)
If they don’t, shame on Apple. Complete and total shame. I’d say respecting dark mode is what they have to do, bare minimum.
This is gonna be a game-changer. You can listen to your music on any computer, without installing iTunes. (IT departments coming up with blocks as we speak.)
Or better yet, disconnect corporate computer from internet and use intranet instead. /s

The game changer will be when you no longer need iTunes to sync media to a device or restore from encrypted backups.
You can do that already, right? Apple Music and iCloud backup.
The only exception is when installing beta or doing DFU, which does happen from time to time. Maybe Apple will only allow Xcode to perform such actions in the future?

If you sign up for Apple Music does it mess with ANYTHING in your iTunes library? Didn't signing up for something used to do that? Music Match, was it? Where it would replace songs and stuff? Don't want any part of that. Thanks!

I would think its just the interface of AM on the web.. for Apple to have separate backend for this is saying something over the top.. but since it mucked up on the back-end anyway, anything goes.. *shrugs*

I guess all of this was a push from those "unofficial ones", so at least we know who to thank for this.

You can log in to Apple Music using your personal Apple ID. It's not tied to the Apple ID you are logged into in System Preferences.

That’s just one of the biggest concerns I have on Apple Music, as my iTunes library cannot be messed up with anything other than my management. What Apple Music did to iTunes library in the past worries me quite a bit.

so far the existing playlists don't even appear in folders...

Thank the heavens. The first news in a while I've been genuinely happy about, as I move further away from Apple.

Realy? Is that new in Catalina then? Since in Mojave i must login to iTunes and it was in my understanding that's the same account as the App store account. If that's not the case then i feel realy stupid :D

Now all we need is collaborative playlists, this is one feature I miss from Spotify, super useful for family trips in the car where everyone can add their music.

Messenger on the iCloud web portal would be cool too, surely the framework is there now our messages can sync between devices via iCloud

Still no web-based access for those who only have iTunes Match. Hopefully this will change so I no longer have to sync my library to Google Play. Bizarre that Google offer this for free but I don't get it with my paid-for Apple service.
