Um.... I don't know if that's true. Maybe I am wrong, but I have some music that I created when I was younger, and if I go solely to Apple Music, I think i will likely lose access to them because they aren't in the public arena, nor published on iTunes.

I'm not 100% but fairly confident.

I have a bunch of my late father’s recorded jam sessions on CD. Ripped them to iTunes and uploaded to Apple Music. It’s been a couple years and I haven’t had any issues.

I see the web version has the option to “suggest less like this”; I’ve never seen that option in the Mac OS or iOS versions. Nice!

How are local songs being uploaded?

Has Apple been sending my personal MP3s up to their cloud without telling me?

I don't pay for iTunes Match... just Apple Music.

I'm not mad... I just don't know how it works...

EDIT: I now see that Apple Music includes the features of iTunes Match. It all makes sense now. :)

It’s in iOS 13, replacing “Dislike,” which is still present in Music in macOS Catalina.

Not completely. If you have music that is not on Apple Music you can't access it remotely. I have a number of older and obscure albums, and if I gave up Match those would not be available to me except on the main machine that hosts my library.
What? I can access a couple albums that I have that aren’t on Apple Music or iTunes just fine. It’s survived multiple macOS reinstalls (from scratch) and new phones.

This is literally the only thing Spotify has that Apple Music was missing.

Not nearly enough to make me think about switching, though, I have to wonder about all those that claimed this was a dealbreaker to not using Apple Music.

Oh Apple Music is missing a lot more than just a web interface, lol. Decent algorithms for one...

yup, there are a boatload of songs from my childhood that aren’t on iTunes that I ripped on match. Foreign stuff, instrumentals etc.

I’m wondering if this would work for older machines that would be great for Apple Music? Wonder what the browser requirements are. I’m thinking of PowerPC Macs, Snow Leopard, Windows XP, iPhone 4, just to name a few.

There’s no reason TO have both. All of Match’s features are supported in Apple Music.

Are you sure? I thought the point of Match was to have all of your music available on any device, including music not available on Apple Music. Much of my library consists of classical music not available on Apple Music. Don’t I need both?

If you are currently paying for both Apple Music and iTunes Match, you can cancel Match without losing any of your files, as long as you continue paying for Music. All of Match’s functionality is also built into Music.

I had plenty of songs uploaded via Match because they weren’t in the iTunes Store or Apple Music catalogs and when I cancelled Match after signing up for Music all of my uploaded songs remained in the cloud and accessible on all my devices.

From Apple's support website:

If you have an Apple Music membership, you get all of the benefits of iTunes Match, plus access to the entire Apple Music catalog.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204146

You do NOT need to subscribe to both services. If you do, you are wasting money.

Hey, read through the first couple of pages of comments regarding iTunes Match. It seems that we are paying for iTunes Match for nothing, as it is baked into Apple Music already, and can safely be canceled. I quoted a couple of these instances, right above your post.
Be careful though. iTunes Match uploads your content DRM free, Apple Music does not. If you don‘t care about DRM then yes, you are paying too much for the same experience.

False.

While Apple Music needs more sharing and social features, it's algorithms are as good if not better than Spotifys. Apple Music has IMO an almost an uncanny ability to understand what I want to listen to and I have an electric taste.

Would like if iTunes Match got just counted against storage instead of paying for the service

Yikes at how off base this comment is. It’s simply untrue, in my experience/opinion. Spotify’s main attraction are its Discover Weekly and Release Radar curated playlists. As well as recently their Daily Mix 1-6 playlists, all based off of their terrific algorithms.

I’ve discovered so many great artists through their curating, artists I had never heard of before in most cases, but I enjoyed the music. In my experience Apple Music tended to recommend artists or songs that I’ve already listened to or knew existed, very little new exposure. Plus the interface is still a complete unintuitive disaster, a total nightmare on a design aesthetic level, almost an embarrassment.

What are the chances that this will get the functionality of uploading files into the iCloud music library? I would like to get rid of iTunes.
