hmmmm.... should i buy now or in a few months before the promotion ends? may as well take advantage of this program one last time before i graduate.

I think the U.K promo may start tomorrow (26th) by looking at the current printer promotion, it finishes tomorrow.

Im worried that the free ipod promotion wont even happen, or UK education pricing will be ended. Sounds irrational, but check this out:

http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/campaigns/education_pricing?mco=OTY2ODIwNg

There's an orange circle that says 'last call for Apple education pricing'

REALLY hope this means they aren't cancelling it tomorrow, because I've been waiting for the free iPod deal since the MBPs have been refreshed. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Im half tempted to go out and buy a new mac tomorrow, just incase the deal gets cancelled and I have to pay full price and not even get a free iPod.

Am I being irrational?

I could be wrong, but I'm almost sure that in the past Apple has started the Back-to-School promotion in the US during May/June and in the UK Aug/Sept.

which is actually a better deal, because in the US Apple is trying to get rid of old inventory and this promotion only qualifies for current gen iPods, but in the UK this promotion will be for the New Gen iPods.

Just take it back within your 14 day time frame, and then go buy a new one the next day!

Apple charges a 10% restocking fee on open packages (which means he will loose around $131 - $163)(depending on which model and local taxes)

not worth it for a free iPod touch.

I have a friend who purchased a 13" MB on Saturday for his daughter's high school graduation.

He bought it at Best Buy, do they offer these deals? And can you buy an iPod worth "more" than $199 but still get the deal? I know he can return it to Best Buy as he is a Platinum status and gets 45 day return policy.

and australia?? :(

lol. it's a back to school sale. If you really live in Australia you would know that the school year runs feb/march to november in australia while it runs september to june in North America. So the Australian back to school sale always runs from November to March

FWIW restock fee is only assessed on merchandise, not taxes. They have to refund 100% of your paid tax.

Do these discounts work in the actual apple stores (the physical ones), or is it only on the online store?

Sorry, but actually its roughly the same timeframe in the UK as in the US. Although if if was later, like you said it would be a good thing!

Been reading a different thread and someone posted a screenshot of the same 'last call for Apple education discount' from the US store from about a month ago, so I had nothing to worry about. New Macbook Pro and iPod for me this Thursday? keen.

I know they won't ....

... but I'd love Apple to give a deal for a Mac Mini + iPad aimed at students.

For around the same price point of the entry level MBP*, you get much more
mobility with the iPad and the full (lower-tier) desktop Mac experience. It'll further threaten the already endangered market for the $999 Macbook, but it tends to be Apple's MO to kill its own before the market does...

* $1099 Edu. MBP 13" vs $549 Edu. Mini + $499 iPad

I am in the same situation.

Your correct.

For me it's still early morning, and I realized after I posted the comment that I included taxes in the math and I didn't feel like editing my comment.

No, this deal is only when purchased at an Apple Store or Apple Online Store. Also, the Mac and iPod have to be on the same receipt, and if you choose an iPod worth more than $199, all you have to do is pay the difference. So is you choose a 32gb iPod touch ($299), all you have to pay is $100 ( or $49 for an iPod Classic or $200 for a 64gb iPod touch).

2 week policy

awesome ... just awesome
i bought a 13inch macbook pro just on saturday...

You have two weeks to return your computer for full price. You're basically returning it and "repurchasing it". Just take it back and get the price difference as well as the ipod and printer. It's apple, they'll take care of you.

Will WWDC affect what's offered in this year's promo?

Question: I'm starting grad school in a few months and want to get the 13" MBP (with educational pricing) + free iPod in this promo. And I actually wanted to buy these two things tomorrow.

But from what others have said, WWDC is happening in June, and there's a good chance there will be something cool, like a camera on the iPod Touch. Will any of the new and upgraded items be eligible for this back to school thing? If not, I don't see any reason to wait until June for WWDC to happen.

iPods tend to get a refresh in September, not June, so you should be fine.

(typically when this promo ends is when Apple updates the iPods)

Thanks, I see. I'm guessing that this is simply a nice way to get rid of the old stuff, right before the new stuff comes out? I will probably sell this iPod Touch, particularly if the new one gets the camera. I'd rather pay maybe 50-100 (net) for one with a camera than have a free one without.

Any idea whether MBP will see any changes so soon? From what I understand, it was upgraded really recently.

Resolve is… slipping…

I'd planned to wait until I saved up enough money to buy with cash, but now I'm thinking:

• Get the 0% interest deal
• EDU discount
• Free iPod Touch (sell and put $ back towards computer)

My 1st gen MBP is showing its age, and I'd really love to upgrade… I might just have to bite on it now! :p

If you got a new Mac via the EDU store from May 11 or later they will make good on this offer! Just call 800-676-2775 with your order number. No hassles and no rebate forms to fuss with. They just send it to you right away...free!! Or they take the $199 off of a higher end model if that's what you want. My 16 gig Nano (didn't want the Touch - which I think will see an upgrade VERY soon) has already been prepared for shipping...and free shipping at that!

If you already bout a mac

I just called Apple hotline. If you have bought a qualifying mac within the 14 days you qualify. They are actually sending me a free iPod Touch. No out of pocket expense so I do not have to deal with the rebate! They were very nice about it. So I encourage anyone who has bought a mac within the last 2 weeks to call!!!

What a load of crap, LCB in LA isn't on the list to take part in back to school :( all the other LCBs around the US are lol.
