This is one of the dumbest posts I've read in this thread, thus far at least...

I'd never thought about dropped call data until the press conference.. after he started talking about it I realized this is one of the most useless stats ever.. unless the conditions for dropped calls are constant then the data essentially means nothing.

That's really not true. Just due to the vast numbers involved the variability in conditions is insignificant. Sure, for each individual dropped call it matters, but put them all together and it doesn't matter anymore. As long as both data sets contain the same proportions of condition scenarios (which they in all likelihood do since the sample size is massive).

Ex: Wednesday after soccer I was talking on the phone to someone.. the call dropped (I had full bars (Auburn Hills, MI)). I attempted to call her back but it went to her voicemail which led me to believe she had lost signal (she is also on AT&T but does not have an iPhone4. I was outside, she was in her house which is one of those older houses.. forget what they're called.. but heavy construction, lots of plaster, etc. So.. there's one iPhone4 dropped call for AT&Ts tally..

Oh, wow. We have a die-hard Apple fanboy right here. I mean, he's even previously admitting to owning stock in Apple.

AT&T's network can likely tell WHICH phone lost the network reception, because they'd know which tower lost the call. Thus your phone wouldn't be to blame, hers would. (Steve Jobs even said as much at the press conference.)

Thinking that AT&T couldn't locate which tower (and which phone) lost the signal is just absurd.

So, thus, you're wrong. It wouldn't add to the "tally" at all.

Everyone has the same issue with old buildings. Thus it'd already be factored into the equation. The iPhone 4 users wouldn't have any "special" factors beyond normal 3G users. People with 3G phones probably all have similar locations and similar situations. The percentage is, of course, averaged over all the 3G users.

For your information, the AT&T slides are: http://www.att.com/Investor/Financial/Earning_Info/docs/4Q_09_slide_c.pdf

Not that you'd care. I mean, you seem ignorant enough to just blatently defend Apple to the death.

I have no idea if this was posted already, but, if I bought my case from BestBuy, would I receive a refund as well? I did not see anything on the apple's website stating anything about any other stores but AT&T and Apple.

This is standard fine print on many purchase agreements. Rarely does it happen without notifying the customer beforehand.

Relax.

LOL Trust me, I'm not worried about it. I already have a ColorSplash case that I like from Boxwave when they were giving them out free for some reason. I'll be happy to have any of the cases offered as a backup or option. :)

Your case was probably not the Apple-made iPhone bumper, so you will not get a refund nor are you eligible for one. You can, however, go ahead and get an extra case for free.

No you're SOL. Go get another case for free.

Can someone post up screenshots of all the case choices from the App?

I dont have an iPhone 4 yet, but want to see the gallery of cases that Apple is offering on the iPhone without visiting 3rd party websites...

oh - and i guess there are no third party colour cases because colours would look crap on a black iPhone. Me wants purple.
Roll on the white iPhones (probably on October 1st with no free case) lol

I was talking about dropped calls in general, think you misinterpreted the post.. read it again. I have aversions to all kinds of base-less statistics.. group-studies.. diets.. etc, etc, etc.

The stock thing doesn't mean anything.. I bought most of it in 08 (before the dive) while I was a Windows/Windows Mobile/Windows Server loyalist.. Have stock in companies I think are poised to thrive in their respective markets.. Verizon.. Sprint.. nVidia.. Tesla.. even Microsoft.

Has anyone had a chance to go to the apple store to see if they put out the other color bumpers? i still want the white bumper

Dock

Not sure which to go for, leaning slightly to an incase one at the moment.

Does anyone know whether any of these will work with a dock. The incase ones don't look to have top/bottom parts which might allow it, unlike the bumper for example which won't.

Any advice would be welcome.

Just got my processing email:

We estimate your order to be shipped by 27 Aug, 2010.
We expect your order will arrive by post to your shipping address on or before 31 Aug, 2010.
Has everyone that ordered gotten this email? I haven't gotten one yet and I ordered a couple hours ago. Trying to figure out if this is because I ordered one for my wife via MY Iphone, even though we both use the same Itunes account.

I agree with you on your dislike of baseless statistics, however, this one is for all 3G calls on AT&T's network. Apparently BGR is now reporting that AT&T's overall dropped call percentage is 1.44% (which presumably includes EDGE... which would be used in more rural areas that probably don't have as many towers as the urban areas with 3G.)

So the 0.91% only applies to 3G calls (which would only be in urban areas).

Still, though, it seems very telling that Jobs refused to compare the iPhone 4 to AT&T's overall dropped call percentage, which they have publically available (unlike his comments that AT&T wanted to keep the statistics secret).

I will admit, for the sake of discussion, that I have an iPhone 4 and bought an Incipio case at the AT&T store the day AFTER I got it. (the official release date) I did this because I was very much affected by the signal loss. Holding my phone normally in my left hand greatly reduced my signal strength.

With the case, I'm having no issues... but I'm a bit disappointed by how Apple's trying to mislead the public. Of course, they have to appease the press and their stockholders by saying "We've done nothing wrong." but it's just a little aggravating when this is a REAL problem.
