I've had this problem a few times on my phone, where parts of the display would be unresponsive and there was nothing I could do but to wait.
Edit: booked an appt for 12/11/18.

Yep, same here.

yeah, i've had the same issue. its mostly my music being stopped and started at random times. finally one day i just left the screen on, but locked and it started to pause and play at random without me doing anything

I’ve had his issue with the music also. I just assumed it was a software bug. It happens every few days for me.

Didn’t know that was added! The way I worked around so far was to have the phone at an angle. With some training it became really good. Will still give this a try.

EDIT: just tried it and works perfectly!
Hahaha I’ll have to try it!

I, probably like a lot of others, have had touch issues but figured it was software. Anyone have any dependable test / process flow to see whether you're affected?

If it's entirely random, and they're not identifying specific serial numbers as affected, how could apple employees determine if the claim is legit? And how could the user go in and make the claim knowing they could replicate it in store?!

They’re going to fix the problem with all iPhone X. You’re overthinking it.

My screen is sometimes unresponsive in the upper right side of the notch, when I want to pull down the control center. Backspace button sometimes doesn’t work either. Interesting. I wonder if Apple is going to have a serial number lookup....

I had this problem many times over the months of ownership until I got the XS Max. I kept thinking it was my fingers or something else. Usually waiting sometime or a restart fixed the issue.

I had this issue and already got a replacement refurbished phone. Luckily it works fine, but I did originally pay for a new phone that had a normally functioning screen so....

Have Apple reimburse you. It says they will in the article.

And all this time I thought it was me. I would be searching in Amazon or Best Buy and the apps would not respond to my touch. I would forcefully press the display and ultimately would have to force close the app. Guess I'll be making a trip to the Apple Store.

Anybody know if Apple will supply me with a temporary phone while the one that they screwed up on is getting fixed? I mean, I did pay $1,000 for a “premium” experience, right?

I have issues with the MacRumors website on my iPhone specifically. Anyone else have issues tapping on “read more” on articles and other buttons? If not I may just make Apple replace my screen.

It's crazy to me that it's taken this long for them to accept this was a problem. Their own store employees acknowledged this issue since the spring.

Honestly I had the worst experience with this. I went to the Apple Store 5 times and was told to wipe my phone and restore is twice and then wipe it and manually select the files I wanted to keep and start it as a new phone altogether. Three separate people insisted it was software while I kept insisting it was hardware. Finally one day it went completely nuts, called emergency services on its own by repeatedly pressing 000000000000 a million times (000 is the emergency number in australia) and wouldn't let me hang up. I went to mac store and caused a scene and finally they replaced the phone. I'm so glad this has now been properly acknowledged. The other great thing it did was enter the wrong PIN all on its own multiple times and then lock itself for hours and hours. It was so infuriating. I managed to get some screen cap videos of it happening (with great difficulty because operating the phone with this happening was very hard). Anyway a new phone restored from my backup worked a treat and I love it, but I had to just through so many bloody hoops.

Apple today announced a new display replacement program for the iPhone X, which will see the company replacing iPhone X displays that exhibit touch issues.

According to Apple, some iPhone X displays can experience problems with responsiveness due to a display module component that can fail. Affected devices have a display or part of a display that does not respond to touch or responds intermittently, or a display that reacts without being touched at all.

Apple says that customers experiencing this issue can get a replacement display module from an Apple retail store or Apple Authorized Service Provider at no cost.

There is no serial number check nor specific time period that outlines when affected devices were sold, so presumably this display component failure can impact any iPhone X device. Complaints about ghost touches and displays that fail to respond to touch have been circulating on the MacRumors forums for several months now, dating back to when the iPhone X was first released.

iPhone X users with a display that has these symptoms should visit an Apple retail store location, find an Apple Authorized Service Provider, or contact Apple Support to arrange mail-in service to get a replacement.

Apple recommends customers back up their iPhones to iTunes or iCloud before pursuing repair, and the company warns that other damage, such as a cracked screen, may need to be addressed before the display repair can be completed.

This Apple program does not extend the standard warranty coverage of the iPhone X, and repairs may be restricted or limited to the original country of purchase. The program covers affected iPhone X devices for three years after the first retail sale of the unit.

Apple says that if customers affected by this issue already paid for a repair, they can contact Apple Support for a refund.

[doublepost=1541821819][/doublepost]I had this when I was outside in sunlight. I took my phone back to Apple and in my nicest tone said I had read online that it is a digitiser issue and they replaced the whole phone without question which imho is better than a screen repair. Am I right?

Apple only likes giving people second hand phones so that they can make even more profits.

And before the fans go wild, yes the device is technically second hand if it were previously purchased. No amount of replacing a battery or xyz negated that FACT.

In other news, might be going shopping for an iPhone today...

They’re not 2nd hand.
Service replacements can be new or remanufactured, ie. made with recycled materials.

Refurbished (sales returns) units can only be purchased, and come with a full warranty.

Electronic devices aren’t like car tires. Aside from the battery there isn’t anything that wears down over time, so yes it’s functionally identical to new.

Had the ghost touch issues for weeks. Brought it in Apple Store 3 times and multiple calls and they kept concluding it was a software issue. Finally on the last visit, they decided to just replace the screen and I've had no issue since. I'm glad I was under warranty at the time or they would have charged me $$$. Great to see now this is officially addressed for everyone (w/in warranty or not). It was a very frustrating issue when I had it!

This. I have had so many problems with this phone, even through at least six or seven resets (never do iCloud restore, always start from scratch). My last one being DFU and still random things happened that I couldn’t replicate. During iOS 12 beta, Face ID stopped working. I reset Face ID etc, still could not capture my face. Eventually I reset the phone to factory, but I still think that was a very odd thing to happen, considering iOS 12 has been nothing but good even through beta. I’m happy I’m not going crazy...

Does it make it different if the iPhone X still has AppleCare? Or I just simply walk in at the appointment and complain that I have screen issue and they will give me a refurbish iPhone X?
