Not going to bother. My phone's on the list, but I never had an issue like this and I'm probably going to get the S when it comes out next month anyways. Not worth being without your phone for a week.

It won't, it's why I won't buy iPhone, unless they drop in price. My devices history is, iPhone 3GS had the plastic cracks by the volume keys, iPhone 4 had the home button start to fail although that was after several months and it's the best iPhone they ever made. iPhone 5 had the power button fail...

My nexus 5 I bought when it was launched, nothing's broken and it's been dropped a few times. And it cost I think £200 to £250 less than an iPhone..

BUT..

Whilst this is now another infamous 'known Apple issue' then it is good they will fix it. Apple are good at fixing known issues. Perhaps they should have them made in America instead of China?

The Nexus 5 had it shares of hardware issues when it launched: http://bgr.com/2013/12/13/google-nexus-5-hardware-issues/. LG built the Nexus 5, LG had the Nexus 5 phone built in American and not China?

I have owned a iPhone 4S and now a iPhone 5, not a single hardware issue. Problems happen, on both cheap and expensive phones. Name one phone manufacturer that has not had some sort of hardware issue with their phones.

When manufacturing gets to the point that all phones are built by robots then maybe production issues can be elimated. But then that won't guarantee that parts won't fail and they do for whatever reason.

A 10 minute fix now takes a week?

A week? If Apple is doing the repair they generally fix most things within 24-48 hours and in the case of the iPhone I Had my 4S fixed twice and they repaired both issues in a hour.

My Serial number is eligible. I chatted with an Apple rep. Gave address, last 4 of IMEI #, she sent me an email to enter a credit card for a temporary hold, and a new phone is being sent to me using Express Repair Service. I have 10 days to return my phone. Because I have apple care, the $29 fee is waived. YAY Apple!

for those who did this through an Apple store. Did they replace your iPhone with a refurb or did they send in yours for camera replacement?

I dont know why everyone in this thread thinks this entitles them to a new phone. If you go into an Apple Store, the camera will be replaced in store in an hour or so or you can go through Applecare and have a Service Replacement (Remanufactured or new, Apple does not distinguish between the 2 but at this point its almost guaranteed to be remanufactured...) sent to your home.

To be honest, they'll probably just apologise and give you a new iPhone. I really don't think they'd make the effort to replace the individual camera piece. Probably isn't worth the time and leaving a customer without their phone isn't good service.

My experience of the Apple Store suggests they'll just replace the phone...might just be my local though...

But if you'd like a new phone---fresh battery---no scuffs--it's nice to know you can use Express Repair Service for this and if you have Apple Care for your phone--the fee is waived. SCORE!

So why bother going into a store? I don't have time to deal with that zoo. Plus, I'd rather have a replacement phone then have them fix the camera on the phone I have now.

Just brought mine to the Apple Store in The Hague (NL). Phone was eligible and did have a camera issue. They repaired it within the hour (waited for it) even though I pleaded to just give me a new one and save them the effort... Anyway it is working again.

I guess you never read the article... They REPLACE the iSight camera module.

Jesus. So many misinformed people talking out their rear after reading nothing but s headline (and even interpreting that headline incorrectly).

You take your phone in and the faulty part gets replaced. This happens on site. If you make an appointment you shouldn't be without your phone for longer than an hour.

Whether your phone is effected or not, if you plan on keeping it, it's smart to just get it done. I had a hard drive replaced in my iMac because of a similar deal. That DID take a week, but I'd rather it gets replaced than have to deal with potential permanent failure.

If you have to send your phone in they have next day mailing options. I'm not well versed in shipping to Apple since I have always lived somewhere that I was just wiling to make the drive, but I don't imagine you'd be without your device for too long even if you had to ship it. Rather than making assumptions, if shipping is yournonlynoption, you can ask Apple about it.

It's amazing to me the amount of complaining that goes on here. Apple can refuse to acknowledge an issue and there's one Group of whiners. Apple finally acknowledged there is an issue and there is another group of whiners. You're a privileged group of individuals that obviously don't know how darn good you have it.

Just to clarify, they will send you a new replacement phone and keep your iPhone? Or are they sending you a a temporary replacement which will need to be returned back to Apple once they send your original iPhone back?

Thanks

The small number means, a small number of those phones in that period have the issue. If you don't have it, they obviously don't fix it. The number of phones sold from Sept 2014 to Jan 2015 is likely 30-40% of yearly total, not really a small percentage.

I highly doubt that number is accurate, but guessing is fun. Has anyone got a (not replaced) 6 Plus from between those months that's NOT eligible for replacement camera?

That was what I was wondering; the thread seems to imply focus issues. I remember reading about the possibility of overly aggressive noise-reduction in the 6 and 6+ on MacRumors last year and I got the Camera+ app to try but to my eyes, they don't seem much different.

I have a lovely close up of a Red Admiral butterfly I took with either my 4S or 5S and I feel the 6+ is unlikely to match it. I'm only a very occasional phonetographer so it's not something I've thought about too often but seeing this news just made me wonder whether this was what I'm seeing.
I had the problem with my 5s, as well. I think it's actually worse on my husband's 6Plus camera than on mine. I'm not knowledgeable enough to know why there would be a performance variance between different phones of the same model. It could just be a matter of bad luck and skewed perception that his iPhone has it worse.

I reviewed several recent pictures taken on my iPhone and I've come to the conclusion my camera does NOT yet suffer from the defect specified by Apple. I have had some blurry shots but they were all in a brief cluster that did end after I dropped my IPhone. Everything is fine now.

I know this is off topic but I like your user name. My wife calls herself the grumpy mom at times :). It is really nice to see more women posting here.

There will always be problems with mass-produced products. One faulty batch, and the show is on.

However, I actually believe that the PERCENTAGE of faulty Apple-products is one of the lowest in the industry.

My view is different. Hardware issues shouldn't be common at all. I think Apple has unusual hardware issues for a premium product, but they have service to make up for it. Taste aside, and this is anecdotal, I've not heard of significant hardware problems in the Surface Pro 2 line (like there were in the rMBP) or Samsung GS6 problems. And because of their deep manufacturing capabilities (and lack of service) I would particularly expect Samsung hardware at the high end to be much more reliable than Apple.

Not sure how this is such big news for in-warranty devices. Had to get my camera replaced a few months back because of this. My guess is Apple was aware of the issue, since the camera modules were in store to swap out.

My serial number isn't showing as needing replacement, and it was purchased in September.

Time for a new camera component supplier and tighter quality control at Apple?

I love my iphone but if it costs

I love my iphone 6+ but if I pay $700 for a machine that costs so much more than most android competitors I expect it to be so thoroughly tested the basic functionality of camera hardware/software would never be an issue. Time to get a new supplier/revamp quality control Apple.
