They won't give you a new phone, they'll take it apart and replace the camera... Apple doesn't replace devices anymore unless they need to

They'll just replace the camera, other people have confirmed that and it'd be a waste to give you a new phone really

I just went in the Apple and they just gave me a brand new phone by switching the sim card...so I walked in with a year old phone walked out with a shinny new phone.

Hey Macrumors ""could be"" has no place in any article from the Mac Rumors team.

I had this same issue with mine a couple of months ago. Apple replaced it with a new one on the spot.

"The iSight Camera Replacement Program will cover iPhone 6 Plus iSight cameras for three years after the first retail sale of the unit. "

Does any other company do this? Something as highly engineered as the iPhone, and any other smartphone, is bound to have flaws. What I respect is the Apple puts it front and center and gives 3 years of not worrying if your new iPhone might have camera issues. To put it into perspective if this was an issue 3 years ago your iphone 4s would still be covered, although only by a few weeks.
Like they did with the MacBook Pro GFX card failures. After years of denial, respect them for that too did you?

Beautiful thing about Apple is the after-service. Problems will happen when you literally sell tens of millions of devices. But at least there are timely and practical solutions provided. I hope Apple retail never changes this aspect of the Apple experience.

For those of us that have had to persevere through Apple after-service support with our various macbook pro issues in the past will be shaking ours collective heads at your statement. I just hope people still bother to get class action law suits together from time to time to "encourage" Apple to provide these amazingly timely and practical solutions - like they did with radeongate. Except even then it wasnt timely, nor practical.

I still purchase Apple products purely because of the amazing work done by developers, developing for iOS and particularly OSX. Apple's after market support and hardware to me are major negatives, but as of yet, arent enough to outweigh the positives.

Oh my, you sound like apple has the worst aftermarket support and other companies were support kings, which obviously is far from being truth..

It won't, it's why I won't buy iPhone, unless they drop in price. My devices history is, iPhone 3GS had the plastic cracks by the volume keys, iPhone 4 had the home button start to fail although that was after several months and it's the best iPhone they ever made. iPhone 5 had the power button fail...

My nexus 5 I bought when it was launched, nothing's broken and it's been dropped a few times. And it cost I think £200 to £250 less than an iPhone..

BUT..

Whilst this is now another infamous 'known Apple issue' then it is good they will fix it. Apple are good at fixing known issues. Perhaps they should have them made in America instead of China?

You want them to drop in price but made in America? I don't think you understand how business works.

Chances exist that you wil get a completely new iPhone instead of just new part
Wrong. This program specifies that the single component, which is the rear camera, will be replaced. The phone will not be replaced, only the part inside the phone.

The FaceTime camera on my 5S is foggy. Can I get a replacement for that?
That is completely separate from this recall. If your phone is under warranty, it may be eligible for replacement, but if it has been in contact with liquid (the most common cause of this symptom) then no, it isn't eligible for replacement.

I have the 6 plus eligible. Should I get a new one?
It takes more than a serial number to be eligible, it has to also match the symptoms described. if it does, then you should have it repaired. If it doesn't take blurry photos, then it isn't actually eligible for repair.

My iPhone 6 Plus is eligible.
Only if it produces blurry photos. The serial number alone does not make it eligible.

i "think" mine is okay but maybe i'm just so used to it that i don't notice the blur (unless it's obvious).

anyone on here have pictures to show how blurry it actually gets?

i guess i'll go in and get it repaired since it's free.
It will only be repaired if it actually is defective, the serial number alone does not mean it is eligible.

I'm going to take it in, hopefully they mess it up beyond repair and have to give me a new phone.
It will only be eligible if it actually is defective. The serial number alone is not enough to qualify, it must be unable to produce clear photos.

checking even though i have no problems because I don't know...
If you have no problems, your phone is not eligible. The serial number alone isn't enough to qualify, it must produce blurry photos.

Mine is eligible, but it's working fine.
If it's working fine, it isn't eligible. The serial number alone does not qualify it for replacement, it must actually be defective.

I suspect pretty much anyone who bought an iPhone 6 Plus between these months is eligible. It's always a "small number affected," because the number of units sold between September 2014 and January 2015 IS small compared to the rest of the year - as a percentage. Let me go check my phone...

Yep, eligible to be fixed. No surprise. I suspect this "small number" is many, MANY millions of iPhone 6 Plus units.
Wrong, the camera must actually be defective to be eligible. Simply having a qualified serial number is not enough, the camera must actually be defective.

Would you please for once actually specify and make it obvious to your readers that the cameras must actually be defective, and the serial number alone is not enough to have your device repaired.

No, as I said in my earlier post, they give a new iphone 6+ and swap the sim card into a new iPhone 6+. Not repair. At least that's what happened to mine.

The 5 had the battery and the power button, 6 had the moving front cam, 6 plus iSight, when will this stop ?
There will always be problems with mass-produced products. One faulty batch, and the show is on.

However, I actually believe that the PERCENTAGE of faulty Apple-products is one of the lowest in the industry.

Based on what the photo in the article, it looks like the shutter speed is not adjusting when the camera is engaged. If you've ever had a Sony or a Canon camcorder you'd recognize this effect as the "super-slow" shutter speed to increase the brightness. OIS doesn't work very well with low light, as you need far more stability to get a focused image. This might suggest either the OIS is damaged or the shutter is damaged.

My 6 Plus is effected according to the Apple page. Does that mean I absolutely need to send it to Apple or should I just keep using it and only send it in if I see blurriness?

they replaced my 64gb gold phone Friday afternoon. The speaker had blown too. New one works great

Very little hassle

You will only need to take action if your taken photographs are blurred.

Funnily enough, I was recently talking to a friend about how disappointed I'd been in my 6+ camera.

It produces photos with something like a smeary, watercolour effect on a high proportion of them. My serial number is eligible.

I've had the following iPhones:

  1. iPhone
  2. iPhone 3G
  3. iPhone 3GS
  4. iPhone 4
  5. iPhone 5
  6. iPhone 6
So far the only one that made it through a year without some sort of fault is the original iPhone, which flies in the face of 1st Gen Apple products going the worst.

If they were made in America at the current price they may be more reliable, that's what I mean, otherwise they should lower the price, but when they make so much money off it they won't I doubt. It would be nice for the new 6C rumours to be true for instance.

As for the topic, wonder what causes the problem? But as the camera is like a separate module it would be easy to change for a technician, fiddly but not too difficult.

What on earth do you do to your phones? We've got at least 10 phones in our extended family currently, and over the year bought in excess of 30, and none has broken down within the year! I'm still using a 3GS that's going on 6.5 years old and only the battery needed to be changed (year 5) for $20.

lol comparing iPhone quality with the nexus 5 , which is one of the worst android phones when it comes to quality. I have had one since launch in addition to my iphone. Screen glass is super thin so it breaks if you drop it on a pillow. GPS chip is almost useless, plastic starts separating, etc. Ive had two of them, they're complete crap.
So you have had one, found is crap and bought another one?
