MobileMe = Windows ME

I just don't understand how so many of you can excuse this system failure.

If you're paying for something that doesn't work (e.g., web email service), isn't that a problem? Particularly when the company that provides that service (i.e., Apple) has not publicly acknowledged the problem and has provided no guidance as to when the service will be back up?

.Mac has been plagued with problems as of late, and this is just the latest one. I can hardly imagine that so many of you would be so forgiving if your cable company treated you this way.

Apple's launches as of late have been embarrassing. Leopard was released way too early, and it appears we have another example of a botched launch. Thus far, MobileMe = Windows ME.

Geeze.... You Apple apologists REALLY need to put the kool-aid down.

This interruption in serivce is unsat, and an Epic FAIL. And yes, anyone who has used .Mac in the last three months KNOWS fully well that it is not meant to be a business-critical serivce, as evidenced by the myriad dropouts in service we have all come to know and loathe.

The switch should have been a transparent one, with as little interruption as possible. It wasn't, obviously. And it's still down with no telling when it will be up.

My feedback to Apple has been sent. I suggest those of you who are NOT high on the kool-aid and are frustrated do the same. As for the kool-aid drinkers, try to do something more constructive with your day than defending Apple to the nth degree by bashing in here. :apple:

You mean like... with the Amazon Kindle?

Doubtful. They already know it's down, and having folks send in messages that say "Hey, it's down and I'm peed off" isn't really helping much. Now, writing in and saying "I promise not to hit refresh until you send me an email," *that* might do some good.

I have to type in me.com every time, do I count? I feel doing it this way increases my chances something will stick.:)

My ability to log onto my .Mac account for personal domain addition. Also - while I have not tried it - publishing edits to my site is something that I am not willing to try until the system is stable - that component may, or may not be, an issue.

The main message is that a 13 hour (and counting) outage is simply POOR PERFORMANCE, not what Apple had in mind I'm sure, and a problem for CUSTOMERS.

Yeah, that would be a pain. I learned long ago never put anything on .mac that is critical for me to change every day.

Wow - you have 3 email accounts - are you a power user or what

emails are not the issue - iWeb / editing / publishing / personal domain management / etc. are.

Yes, I am a power user but not with .mac.

I have several domains. I am responsible for setting up the business e-mail for our family business. Our business would be lost with down time.

For that reason, I purchase web space from a REAL business oriented web service.

For the same reason, I don't use our BUSINESS web services for playing games.

I use .mac for playing games.

Hoooooray

I finally got an email that I sent 3 hours ago from my me.com email address. Thought everything might be back up but it's not. Oh well, as long as it is up by 8am tomorrow all will be good.

Shame on you for choosing what is quite possibly the worst major web-hosting service to conduct business on if uptime is a legitimate 24/7 need.

.mac was designed for "Our Family Vacation" or "Bobby's 3rd Birthday!" websites, not to be used as a business portal. That's why they don't have uptime SLA's: Grandma doesn't really need to see Bobby at 4 am in the morning.

So quit your whining, phone somebody who could give you a real web storefront and 7 9's of uptime, and get a grip.

Funny how Steve does not limit his demos to your simplistic notion of this service. I have other services so this is an annoyance for me, but one that gives the old apple a bruise. This tech that is failing is also what they are selling to "enterprise" customers. Not a good ad. This could have been a strong example of their stability and scalability, instead they are shown to be inept.

I just don't understand how so many of you can excuse this system failure.

Because we're only paying $0.01 per hour for the service, so I figure they owe me $0.13 so far, and even then, my .mac email works, and my .mac hosted website works. Furthermore, it's not officially supposed to be available until tomorrow in the US...has anyone actually bothered to check whether .me is available in APAC yet?

1. We can have MobileMe offline until it works CORRECTLY and wont crash

2. We could have MobileMe online, crashing, and unable to be fixed because Apple would refuse to take it offline.

Either way the b*tching will ensue....

Once again I would suggest Apple stagger these updates in the future! They are trying to do too much at once.

Amen!

My biggest fear with all these updates was that they would wait until the end of roll-out week to try and drop everything to coincide with the iPhone 3G launch. They left themselves little-to-no margin of error.

Good Post Cliffjumper. This was a time for apple to really shine, and instead they come out with the dunce cap on. O-well. I guess well have to wait and see if it comes online this evening.

Yep working for me to. Got a test email instantly

Thats just like my Blackberry! Neat!

Though it will get lost in this thread, I know an ATT executive.

He has two phones. An iPhone for what it can do and a Blackberry for push e-mail.

He is NOT allowed to get corporate e-mail on the iPhone. iPhones and .mac version 1.0 are not business oriented.

That will change on July 11 with 2.0.

It is still July 10.

Huh?

That just doesn't make any sense at all. When you pay for something, it should work. Right? And there's a lot here that's not working.

This is quite sad, I even checked whether it was up yet from the pub.

Or... and this is a wild and crazy idea... you could use this opportunity to go outside and step away from the computer. You know... outside? Air? Sunlight? Trees?

Say what? Su...n? light? Tr..ees? Are those where Apples come from?

Sync Conflicts -- Sign of Progress?

Something must be happening. Sync hasn't been doing anything today, and I started to think it had something to do with the mobileme debacle. Sync just popped up, though, to ask me if I wanted to keep the file on my computer, or the one on MobileMe (used to say.mac). Still can't access the page, though.

I knew it. Mobile "ME" was doomed right from the start. It's no coincidence, people. Its a full fledged curse.

I'm surprised we have yet to see a photoshop of the MobileMe "cloud" as a thunderstorm, tornado, or dark cloud raining down a plague of frogs and locusts upon us.

System Status

* All MobileMe Services - Online (according to (apple.com/support/mobileme)

This is what the mac service rep I talk to told me to be checking, and once it got the green light it would be good to go...

Unfortunately they dig a deeper hole! :)

That just doesn't make any sense at all. When you pay for something, it should work. Right? And there's a lot here that's not working.

What constitutes "a lot?" Email works, web works, that seems to be the big stuff. As for "paying for something," I don't think we should have high expectations of anything that we're paying $0.01/hour for. We don't go to McDs expecting a great steak for $2, just as we shouldn't expect 5-nines for $99/year.

dear oh dear

Not aware of any failure here, sorry guys - apple stated that the roll out would take some time and the date that the maintenance window would open.

Full and regular updates have been posted along with system status:

MobileMe Launch 7/9/2008, started at 8pm PT

With the exception of the new web apps, all of the following services are available: Mail, iChat, iDisk, Sync, Back to My Mac, and all published pages, including Galleries and iWeb sites.

The MobileMe web apps will be available as soon as possible.

My iWeb sites are up and running, my email is working and my machine is successfully syncing - all that is not working is the new web based interface.

get a grip chaps. And trying to find back doors into the space that apple are using to get everything up and running is only going to impact server load and take them longer to get up and running. Keep an eye on http://www.apple.com/support/dotmac/ and when they're ready, you'll be told. mobile me is not all about the new web interface, it is only the web interface which is currently not up and running. Phone, iBook and iMac are syncing fine, i just can't play with the new web toys - sure I'll cope.
