I'm thinking that if you don't like the outage and have an issue with it, then take your business elsewhere.

You said it yourself "If Apple is going to be in this sector they need to make the investment in hardware & staff and do it right" - well at the same time if you're going to be so reliant on a service you should have your backup/contingency plans ready. You have "considerable work" invested - then what are you thinking by not having Plan B?

There was no need for a plan "B". Your point was that I should "move on" just like someone who was "bored" with this thread - not, IMO - a reasonable comparison at all. Reading / participating in a thread has virtually no investment in it. By contrast - migrating all my work / sites / emails / contract / whatever is VASTLY different. Your little comparison dig was patently absurd.

My experience with Apple has been great - so why would I go through a massive change for this current glitch? Complain about it - you bet. The transition plan that takes down a working site w/o the new site being operational is - well, you've probably read the posts as have I.

I Love This

Long time reader, 1st time poster here!. I have basically spent the whole day watching this thread develop and I LOVE IT!! Thanks to all who are venting (my wife really liked the kissingross link)!! I sympathize with those who are really pissed off, especially those who depend on .Mac for their livelihood (a small group I hope). My view is that Mac fans have come to expect a level of excellence (even perfection) from everything that Apple makes or does (a totally unrealistic expectation). Something like this was bound to happen.

As I have yet to find any mention in the the mass media of the MobileMe rollout problems, at this point (assuming it's resolved before 8AM EST tomorrow), aren't we all (myself included)... maybe... just a little pathetic for spending our day whining about this? We should go play with our kids, spouses, or dogs and be thankful that most of us don't live in Iraq (where I don't think you can even get an iPhone).

[P.S. Of course, as soon as MobMe is up, such aforementioned activities with loved ones should be abandoned in favor of focused learning of the new system].

Is safari any snappier? :)

P.S. Sorry I couldn't avoid that. Seriously now. Be patient, go listen to some good music. cheers!

Okay, jumped the gun signed up for mobileme etc., now I have lost my contacts, calendars etc. on my iphone. However, I still have them on my computer. How do I make sure that they dont get deleted off my computer when MobileMe comes online?

I agree.....

Well, I managed to get into my iDisk by going to idisk.mac.com/username, but haven't seen a log-in lage for .mac or .me in ages.

This is a major upgrade.
Give Apple some time.
Please stop whining.
It's gonna be OK. :apple:
(and if you got your business running on .Mac then I wonder what kind of shop you got and why you don't have a business-server)

Using the site for business or personal should make no difference. This is an implementation design and execution failure.

The Apple .Mac service has met my needs very well for years - what do you mean by "business servers"? The servers are not the issue............

I get your point - but complaining about it here isn't going to help anything. If you really have an issue with it, contact people at Apple and complain to them. All you're doing here is throwing out statements about what Apple did wrong..

Personally, I'm giving Apple the benefit of the doubt on this one.. I've been a .mac user for years and never saw anything like this.. its a major change they are making and people are assuming it has gone wrong - for all we know this is all according to plan for them. Who knows?!?!

Anyway - I'll stop telling you to go elsewhere now, you're more than welcome to stay as long as you realize that complaining on here isn't going to get it up and running any sooner. :):D

I'm so glad Apple won't let me check my e-mail... for $100 a year, this sucks.
That's very professional.

However, I'm looking forward to when it does decide to work.
I might do a little dance. :)

Just been through the account pages. You can change the allocation of storage to Mail (don't know if that's new to MM). The only cards supported are VISA, MasterCard, and AmEx (no Maestro or Switch/Solo support).

There's also a service history page (http://www.apple.com/support/mobileme/system_status_history.html). The account page has a green light for 'all MobileMe services' -- as if. The only two pages to support mouse clicks are Mail and Account. On all the others, the buttons are like they've got something better to do than respond to my clicks.

good thing I went to bed last night and didn't stay up waiting for MobileMe..haha.

I know! I feel pathetic too (just a little) I could have done so much this day... But the weather sucks, i haven't got any spouse, my GF had to work today and my dog is old and sleeps all day.

I guess of all the 10.000 iPhones that left New York each week two months ago some should have ended up in Iraq.

Gern, I like your point of view! Have a great day!

...and the good news...

Not sure if this was already posted...but, with 2.0 I can choose from all of my email accounts to send "from" on my iPhone. So, looks like me.com will also allow this. Great news for everyone looking to sync and push your personal domains (I think).

TO APPLE: ILOVEYOUIHATEYOU:apple:

What I don't understand is why people are running to sign up with their credit cards, etc whenever the site launches for 5 seconds.

Don't complain later when you have 10 charges on your card...

I'm not signing up for ANYTHING until there is at least an hour or so of stability

I would suggest ...

Okay, jumped the gun signed up for mobileme etc., now I have lost my contacts, calendars etc. on my iphone. However, I still have them on my computer. How do I make sure that they dont get deleted off my computer when MobileMe comes online?

I would suggest you use Address books export to Address book archive function. You can also Backup iCal, and export your safari bookmarks.

If all goes tits up, you can then reload them :)

I was patient most of the day, and working in the IT field I understand that things take time, but my patience is wearing thin at this point. There is absolutely no excuse for this. I just spoke to a MobileMe chat representative, and he had no ETA for service restoration, but he did say he was equally annoyed. I've been trying to sign up all day, and I've been waiting, and waiting, and waiting - now it's just ridiculous. Didn't Apple purchase a Tier IV datacenter all for themselves? Why is it having issues handling this rollout? I just don't understand...
