here is my ridiculous iPhone prediction.

Now for the iPhone 6 to be:

32 @ $199
64 @ $249
128 @ $300

The pricing matrix for iPhone will be more complicated and expensive, such as:

32 4" @ $599
64 4" @ $699
32 4.7" @ $749
64 4.7" @ $849
32 5.5" @ $899
64 5.5" @ $999
128 5.5" @ $1199

And I am being conservative here. Entry iPhones (4" screen) will most likely be cheaper than now and be the "6c" for that generation, but I fully expect the pricing to go off the charts quickly after that and we will see the first $1000+ iPhone which is absolutely ridiculous even for today.

There is no way Apple is not going to bling out the iPhone in sapphire and not recuperate their R&D costs by reducing their profit margins, even though they are pricing themselves out of competition.

Well would you look at that. Here's hoping the price drops mean a new iPod touch is coming this fall/spring. Been waiting to get one for a few years now.

Didn't Apple make a minor update to the MBP before the rMBP was introduced at WWDC? Anyway I can't see Apple going two years with basically nothing new in iPod land. Unless they're planing to replace the touch with something new. There are lots of things Apple is doing now that they haven't done in the past. 5C was a break from what Apple had done in the past. I think anything is possible under Apple 3.0.

Well the iWatch is supposedly the "new" business that replaces the iPod... This isn't an "update" rather more of a price drop. All they really did was swap out a 16gb chip for the 32gb chip on the current iPod Touch line and thus put more value in the entry level device...

On top of that the rMBP is a whole new device. SSD blade instead of traditional 2.5 SATA HDD, Retina screen, new design. They sold the MBP and the rMBP side by side (and still do), it's not like that with the iPod line. Once the 4th gen iPod came out the only 3rd Gens they sold were overstock and refurbished. Same goes for the 5th.

If you think Apple 3.0 is going to give you better deals and lower their own margins you don't know Apple very well.
Especially after they gave us that terribly (over)priced $1099 iMac last week.

Incredible -- the 16 GB version now includes the loop ring but no loop? The 1¢ piece of scrap material. And does this imply no processor upgrade for the whole line this year? I was planning on buying an iPod Touch after they upgraded the processor im September, but I guess that's not happening. I also liked the black and silver color combo. Oh well, whatever.

When they first introduced an iPod Touch at $199, I think it was with the 4th gen, they made a big song and dance about how critical the sub-$200 price point was to improve sales. As such, it took them long enough to re-introduce a $199 iPod Touch. I was expecting it last fall when they could have said there is no new model, but there is a price drop, instead of just sitting on the iPod Touch.

The $50 storage upgrade is not new since the 4th gen iPod Touch as sold at 16GB $199 and 32GB $249 before retirement with the 5th gen iPod Touch originally starting at $299. This will likely mean a new 6th gen iPod Touch will be coming this year replacing the $299 64GB 5th gen iPod Touch, with the lower storage 5th gen iPod Touch continuing at their lower price points.

I may be the only one...but I like the loop.
Saved me from dropping it so many times, and it's not like you are forced to use it. Great idea.

I love ipod touches, have the 1st, 4th and 5th gen and would buy any new one that comes out. So light and thin, and has a pretty decent camera.

Hope they continue making them for many years to come.

A5 is really sufficient for iPod needs though. My daughters iPad 2 which is essentially the same spec-wise handles all apps thrown at it and runs iOS7 just fine.

As the "gateway" device to an iPhone it does everything it needs to do for you to taste what a powerful version (iPhone 5S/6) can do and get you to consider that as your phone when needed.

Nah. If I am buying a new product in 2014 that I hope to use in 2015 and possibly 2016 it's not going to be with a 2011 processor.

Last year I picked up their 16gb without the camera. I've owned Ipod Touches in the past and I have to say this one is the best sounding I've owned, I use it for mostly streaming stuff. I wouldn't mind a 64gb version for listening to my lossless files

Yes! The iPodTouch is an amazing product. It has just about everything the iPhone has, just about the same as an iPad but it is less expensive, smaller (pocket sized) and doesn't require a subscription (phone plan). That's a huge win.

Not everyone needs a cell phone. We have six iPodTouches in our family. Every one of us has our own. We use them for music, podcasts, books, games, mail, web browsing, etc. We could not possibly afford six iPhones. We do not need to have six cell phones - even if we actually had cellular phone coverage which we don't. A lot of people do not need a cell phone but the iPodTouch has all the other features without the added cost of the cell phone.

It's a fantastic product and it is still bringing in Billions of dollars for Apple as well as serving users well.

Bravo to Apple! Please, keep updating the iPodTouch.

VERy dissapointed

So far, Apple's new products announcements (other than the new OSs) are looking pretty weak.

I seem to remember Eddy Cue saying publicly that Apple had the best product line up in 25 years. Well Eddy, where is this product line up you are speaking of? I certainly haven't seen anything that backs up your statement and Larger screen iPhones is just one or two models, Apple's going to need a lot more than that.

Under settings -> general -> accessibility, do you have reduced motion on ?

It should be lag free and smooth unless you are having problems with your Touch 5.

No it was just laggy compared with the iPhone 5, due, no doubt, to the 2011 specs.

I'm not sure why anyone would buy an iPod Touch with 3 year old specs now when they could get a much better android phone for less money, or an iPhone 5 or 5c second-hand.

My iPhone 5 doesn't require a subscription (phone plan), either. Nor does my Moto G. What is a 'phone plan' anyway? And why would one need one? Is that an American thing? Just drop in the sim of your choice if you want to use it as a phone.

Trying ;) hoping for a retina iMac & mb air too though most likely I suspect they won't appear until next year.

Hopefully there will be an event in Spring 2015 (the quiet half of the year!) that will include 4K Thunderbolt Displays, Retina iMacs, etc.

Personally, I'm just looking forward to (and hoping for) the moment when someone stands on stage and says "this is what smart watches look like today, and this is what they'll look like from today onwards," and then a slide come up with a design that blows all our minds.

This makes me very optimistic for similar pricing on the iPhone 6 with regards to doubling storage capacity.

Does this mean they will be sticking with the A5 iPod touch for a some time or do you think they are trying to clean house and will be giving it a faster chip later on?

I doubt they would release another iPod touch within a year.

With other devices coming out, I think the Touch line is going to be phased out.

Maybe that's the issue. You didn't drop it so you didn't replace it. I agree they should keep the loop. Some people like it.

The iPod range will drop the touch and classic, leaving just the nano and shuffle as music players.

To mirror the 5.5-inch iPhone 6, there will be a 5.5-inch iPad.
