I guess they won't work with old (End 2009) iMacs (no Bluetooth LE)... Too bad. Would have liked the new Magicpad

Why the hell do they use Lightning for charging? It's a Mac, not an iOS device, and USB-C connectors are available and would make much more sense.

I don't know … How many Mac users already have a Lightning cable already permanently plugged in to their Macs? I'm betting quite a few.

Using the same cable saves a free USB port (or plugging in every time you need to charge). Plus, you get an extra Lightning cable.

Apple is charging 300€ to upgrade vram from 2GB --> 4GB in iMac 27". And when SSD prices have been falling in the industry, Apple rises their prices!

That is pure thievery. Same kind of insult as is 16GB iPhone. These kinds of things makes me want to ditch the whole company... ...but at the end, when dust has settled I am a happy Apple user again. (it has happened before).

Ok, two questions.
  • Why do they have to still use a crappy lightning connector, this should be on some sort of USB that is common to all manufacturers so we can reduce waste.
If you're like me, you already have a Lightning cable connected to sync your iPhone.

Seems like Apple is really doubling down on ****ing over their customers for profit since Cook took CEO. A $1500 21.5 inch iMac with DDR3, almost doubling the price of mice/trackpad for minor updates, and not even updating the "magic" keyboard to have backlit keys, or an option for a full keyboard. Not to mention the 16GB iPhone that can record 4k video and capture live photos

It's a shame, because I remember a few years back Apple was known to provide user experience above all else, now it seems they're prioritizing profit over user experience, then jacking up prices on things even more. I used to be a diehard apple fan, but i'm starting to lose my enthusiasm. Apple products have always had a premium, but for a reason. I don't know how Apple execs could be genuinely "proud" of the products they're shipping at these prices.

Computers. I'm a mini-guy, but the 27" 5K is enticing considering what I'd pay for a mini and separate 5K monitor. I upgrade every 2-5 years and will be in the market in another year or 2.

I currently own all 3 existing models of the accessories:

Keyboard: Standard upgrade but I like that they've moved the "scissor" tech into the keys. I don't need a new keyboard all that often and still use a couple of the older plastic Apple Bluetooth keyboards but when I get a computer, this will be with it.

Mouse: I can't say enough about my magic mice. I have 2 and would likely buy a new one with a new computer just because.

Trackpad: I wasn't too thrilled with my trackpad but it was great with spaces. I'm just too used to using a mouse. In addition, I had the problem of it sensing ghost touches (as many others did). On the bright side, I've been using it with a 2010 mini dedicated to audio recording and it hasn't hiccupped for a year so maybe it was a combination of that and my previous mini that eventually died. Although I'm not a trackpad guy, I may ask for this as a gift as I wouldn't mind using it for specific tasks that it works well with.

No thanks. If I can't use the mouse while recharging, what's the point? I'll just keep replacing batteries. Keyboard looks too flat for my tastes (my Apple Wireless keyboard was free) and I've never used the trackpad, so I'm not missing anything there.

Amazed that the 21.5" doesn't have discrete graphics.

otherwise solid upgrade.

not sure about the location of the lightning port on the magic mouse...

Right because that first gen $1800 MacBook Air was a steal. And Steve Jobs never had to reduce the price of iPhone.

Question is: Can that "Iris Pro Graphics 6200" gfx card run recent games @4k without any issues or not?
No, just no. Integrated graphics are the worst if gaming anything.. just don't you will be disappointed.

The Air was groundbreaking for its time. Now it's nothing special, there are tons of comparable laptops on the market. Jobs would never ship a 16GB iPhone 6S. He wasn't known for cheap products, but he also wasn't known for shipping inferior products.

The Ars Technica review mentions that Apple says a two-minute charge gives nine hours of use. So not a lot of downtime in that case. A full charge is two hours, which lasts a month.

I didn't know there was an Ars Technica review yet, that's good to know. I wonder if it would be a deal like with the Pencil (15 seconds of charging for like an hour of use or something)

Also, like @EvilEvil said in another thread, where they've put the connector on the Magic Mouse means you can't use it while it's charging. So if you forget to charge it and it dies on you while your using that new iMac, you're screwed.

Exactly, bad decision Apple!
