People complain cos apple fans are getting tired of old spec upgrades and no design changes other companies are beating apple now days we won't even get 5g for another 18 months while others have it now

And these people don't seem to realize they are not the target market for these devices. If you stopped to think about who is (many posts above give very good reasons), you would understand better.
What you guys suggest are changes that would alienate the actual people they are selling them to.

I love these "it'll be great for the kids" folks. Yeah, a $199 (and up) device to further zombify our youth. That's just what we need. These are the same pathetic individuals who thrust these electronic babysitters into their kids hands whenever they need to do something unscrupulous, or they just want to be lazy bums, which is more often than not. Thanks for being a major part of the problem ;)

Bt 5 and 64gb base would have been a better bump. This one i use for patio.

I wonder if the previous gen with a price cut will be a better buy in this case?

Just disappointed that it doesn’t have a cellular version.

For Apple Watch users, an iPod would be enough to complement their Watch and replace an iPhone. Would also serve as a very portable and cheap iPhone. Most users don’t need phone numbers, just data. A cellular iPod like the iPad with LTE, would allow for pay as you go data packages.

Apple does...it's called an iPhone.

I know it's cheap but can you say bezels??

And wait...is that a headphone jack?

If the Product Red version had a black screen like the iPhone then I'd have bought one just for running and the gym.
Would indeed be nice for running, except that it still seems to be lacking GPS...:(o_O

Ah Apple at its best.

Reusing an old design, so out of date it hurts, and pretending its new.
On the one hand people are clamouring for regular speed bumps on Macs but when something similar is done to iOS devices it's 'reusing an old design'.

The rumor suggesting the iPhone SE wouldn't get iOS 13 due to its screen size can now seriously be called into question.

In it's current state it's a dead end product. If they updated it for current use cases, it can serve a purpose as a media device sans mobile and price escalation.
yea...serving a niche purpose likely doesn't justify the cost. Other than occasionally buying one for a kid before they have a cell phone...what market exists to justify the cost of such a retooling of the entirety of the (remaining) iPod supply chain?

Believe me, I loved the iPT, I was jailbreaking them for years. But iPhones/smartphones have completely cannibalized that market. There's no point in trying to resuscitate that horse for the odd niche that it fulfills.

In my opinion however, I wish they at least stuck an A11 in there.

Take an iPod Touch 6th generation, open it, put an A10 and call it a day. lol Apple

I’ve been thinking about why they didn’t at least go to an A11. I wonder if it’s because the A11 was 30% smaller? The A10 was pretty much a straight drop-in, it’s the same size as the A8 in the previous iPod touch. More logic board changes = more engineering costs?

I see that the iPad mini went from an A8 to an A12, but again those chips were about the same size. Maybe Apple didn’t want to increase the iPod touch cost by going to A12, so they were limited to the A10. The iPad mini is a $400 item, so the extra bit of cost for the A12 was fine.

What a horribly judgemental thing to say. Yes, the issue of technology is an important topic for parents to discuss. Any things like Screen Time, and limiting use are a part of that discussion. But to suggest than parents allowing their kids to use tech is being "lazy bums", or because we want to do something "unscrupulous"... Give it a rest.
It's very clearly established that things people learn to do as kids are learned far better than as adults. Teenagers today are so very much more technologically adept than they were not long ago. If you want to have a child and raise him and send him to college having never used a computer... That's your choice. But don't think you've done that child any favors.

Edit: seeing your wink at the end just now, I think I may have misunderstood your intent...

- this thing starts at $199. 2018 iPad with A10 starts at $329, and you expect a $199 device runs an A11?
- plenty of comments here demanding for an iPod touch. Many still prefer a non cellular device, and at least now it comes with a decently performing hardware vs the aging A8.
- 256GB iPod touch costs only $329. Cheapest 256GB iPhone is the iPhone 8 at $749. For someone looking for a large storage iDevice, the iPod touch is still quite attractive.

this is what I thought, too

but not knowing how tough IOS 13 will be on the SE, I will definitely wait a looong time before even thinking about upgrading ...

Was not expecting much, but disappointed that they did not update to Bluetooth 5.

It is interesting, judging from some the the comment Apple seems to be selling more of these to business than consumers.

But if so, why are they updating it? There is no need for additional processor power if you need it for POS or Bar Code Scanning. And if it was to support iOS 13, would that means these business will have to be updating their POS iPod touch every 4 years just to get latest iOS? Do these POS / Bar Code Scanning really needs up to date iOS?

And if not, what other uses are there for these iPod touch?

The most important thing is that iPhone SE 4" with the A9 will likely be getting iOS 13 update. And also suggest iPhone SE might come back.

Note: Why cant they make iPod touch with Cellular and call it iPhone SE 2.
