I don't want to do this step 25 times. It is a stupid task.

How would the presence of a file manager on iOS make this task any easier? I agree that it's the fault of the OS for not letting you import more than one file at a time, but this has literally nothing to do with having a file management system or not.

@AZREOSpecialist Apple advertised the iPhone. Tons of companies advertise products to help them sell better. What do you have to say about that?

I file manager would be very helpful. I could view ALL sandboxed "file spaces" at once. Furthermore I could pass file references and work on one original document instead of duplicate the file from app to app...

Its also a pain to pass 4 GB movies from app to app (Documents to VLC). It takes forever. Why not pass by reference?

Like I said - Documents app.

https://itunes.apple.com/sg/app/doc...-pdf-reader-and-browser/id364901807?mt=8&uo=4

Do you really need to modify a single file using so many different apps? I find that I rarely use more than one app on a particular file, but maybe that's just me.

How on earth can they promote it being better than a computer when you can not even share your screen? That is a fundamental function in any serious business. I can basically not use my iPad for work since a lot of our work is remote and screen-sharing. A devoted apple fan since 1993. This is bad Apple. Shape up. Why on earth should it not be possible to share my screen?
I totally agree with you.
Which means that the rabid Apple sycophants on this board will savage us both.

I am irritated that people seem to be trying to force their own likes and dislikes on everyone else, and making the general tone of the forums here that much more toxic and hostile in the process.

When people ask me whether they should get an iPad (I am the Apple / iPad guy in my workplace), I don't tell them to get one simply because I own one and use it heavily. It is because I have used it extensively (this is my third iPad) that I am intimately familiar with its strengths and its limitations and I am keenly aware that my years of experience in making the iPad work for me is not so readily transferable to other people in such a short period of time. I will discuss with them what it is they want to do on the device and together, we decide if the iPad is indeed the best fit for them. And if they do decide to get an iPad, they have my personal assurance that I am always available as tech support and for advice on apps and workflows, to the best of my limited ability.

The iPad can work, but you must want to make it work, and be willing to not only tolerate, but also embrace the many idiosyncrasies of iOS and the iPad's hardware in general. Do this, and the iPad can be a better mobile computing experience than many a laptop. Fight it every step of the way and you will loathe the experience with every diver of your body.

Likewise, yes, there are things the iPad still can't do, but it's not the neutered Facebook / Netflix machine everyone here is dismissing it outright as.

What I want and hope to see is more robust and objective discussion on the respective pros and cons of the iPad, not people dismissing it outright. This, I feel, is doing the iPad a major disservice, and this, I will continue to fight and speak out against.

'Toxic' opinions =
just another way of saying "opinions you dont agree with".
Most of the anti ipad comments here are people explaining why it doesnt work for them. But like a broken record, you come back with "well it works for me!".
Unless your Tim Cook, or someone else who has a vested interest in trying to convince everyone to like the gadget, I'm not sure why you keep it up.

Its basically a christian talking to an athiest. No ones going to convince the other.

There's "agreeing to disagree", and there's the kind of toxic comments here which has Reddit seem like a paradise in comparison. You know things are bad when Macrumours is now infamous over at Reddit for precisely the sort of behaviour I am calling people out for.

It's not what they are saying, it's how they are saying it. They are basically saying - the iPad doesn't work for them, so by extension, it doesn't work for anyone and doesn't deserve to exist. I am simply showing them the hypocrisy of their own statements.

It is not them I am intending to convince.

Essentially, I respond because I care. I am passionate about the state of the iPad and when I see someone here say something about the iPad which I feel to be patently false, I speak up. One to set the record straight, second to help foster more robust debate about the topic rather than let the entire thread devolve into one giant Apple-bashing echo chamber, and third, for the benefit of readers who follow these forums, so they too don't get sucked into all this toxicity and negativity.

It's a lonely and thankless job, but someone's got to be the light that will help illuminate the darkness.

You sound like a man trying to defend the honor of his fair princess.

All I can say is after reading this, and glancing at dozens of your other posts: You and your ipad need to get a room, since you seem to love it even more than I love my girlfriend

I sold my IPad Pro. It's good at most things and was an awesome consumption device, but for me it was no PC replacement. I just found doing some PC related tasks frustrating beyond belief. For example, why can't I have 2 pages documents open at the same time? How can one import music from ripped CDs without a computer and a subscription to iTunes? Why don't all apps support split view? Using it with a keyboard was nice, but why couldn't I use a mouse too. Gorilla arm anyone? Etc. etc. I'm waiting for Apple to update their desktops this year, but it looks like they are pushing iPhones and iPads instead of desktops. Not surprising as that's where the money is. If they don't come up with a decent update, then I'll consider going the Windows route.
If you want a mouse you're missing the point of an iPad. If you're still ripping CDs into a computer then you're not a target demographic of Apple. Not that there is anything wrong with CDs and Vinyl, etc. but Apple could care less about that and WILL NEVER happen on an iPad. Nor will a mouse. So enjoy a laptop.

Its not racist...black people say "word" all the time, unless they are screaming --like in the
first video. I am totally against calling people out on racism...I am just saying if
these were MS ads everyone would be calling out stereotypes

Soooo, after all this time I'm still confused.. What are the benefits of the iPad pro to an iPad Air or any other iPad?
What exactly is it's unique selling point?

It has better performance, better speakers, support for the Apple pencil, a connector which let you easily attach a keyboard without using bluetooth. And it has a true tone display. That about it, maybe I'm forgetting something...

"I want a computer with an ad campaign that doesn't make me out to be an idiot."

"Well, the iPad Pro c… uh."

The first tweet was pretty much /thread worthy. There's nothing to even argue against that.

I know the MR article said it, but that first ad is a real tweet:

https://twitter.com/NaskarrKid/status/766425324351610880

IMO, this first one looks arrogant, even if they contacted the guy and he agreed to it being in the ad. And it also seems kind of tone-def, because this is REALLY what most people I talk to DO think about the iPad. They are choosing to simply refute it instead of making a product that people want to purchase. Worse, the most prominent argument in this ad is the one from @NaskarrKid!

It's pretty telling when I gave my iPad Pro to my parents because I didn't use it much, and then it they still choose to use their 2008 iMac instead of the iPad anyway. *snickering*

----

These are just outright embarrassing. And a comment about the last commercial. How about malicious apps that can potentially get through the App Store? It has happened before. Especially with the incident with WeChat. Privacy is a concern.

EDIT: By the way Apple, you said that the iPad Pro isn't a computer. Then why did you say "Imagine what your computer could do if it was an iPad Pro" last year? That sounds contradictory to me. :/

Agreed on both of your points. On your last point, I think this makes it clear that they are scrambling to trying and find their target demographic.

It will be better than a computer when they disengage it from iTunes.

Having to go to iTunes on macOS to do simple things like restore an iOS app to the purchased list doesn't make it better than a computer, it makes it dependent on a computer.

Let me rephrase that.

To Mr and Mrs Joe Average, what is the Pro going to do for them that the generic iPad will not?

Also true tone is only available on the smaller version atm.

Oh and since I've been saying from the very beginning. If you're going to call it Pro then market it Pro, treat it Pro and sell it Pro.

Some people will disagree, but in my opinion: not much. It's just the best iPad out there. But most (if not all) the tasks displayed in the ads can also be done on an iPad Air 2. Only drawing (with the optional 99 dollar pencil) is much better on the Pro. Most Mr. and Mrs. Joe Average don't draw however. At least, not in a way that's worth the investment in the pro and the pencil.

So Apple is using a dead platform (Twitter) to promote a dead product (iPad Pro).
Meh, it won't matter. Pretty soon Apple will end up being a dead brand too. You can't keep a company alive off of overpriced watch bands.
Twitter is a dead platform? Maybe if you live in your basement.

So, if I understand correctly, you label the entire iPad a toy because one application doesn't do one thing you want it to do? You do realize you can install any number of other FREE browsers that probably do what you want, right? Ironically, Safari for the Mac has that same feature, yet it's configurable in Preferences. It's called the Smart Search Field. My suggestion is to send feedback to Apple www.apple.com/feedback and tell them that you want the Smart Search Field configurable in Safari for iOS.

So they use a black guy that speaks slang and that's Apple being racist? Here's a mirror. :)

Its. A. Joke.

guys, cmon

I like the irony that they keep touting LTE and how PCs don't have it when neither does the overpriced MacBook Pro does either. That woulda been a nice Pro feature to have on a MacBook Pro no? :/

I see the same nonsense being thrown around, constantly.

"It's already a replacement for lots of people", "most people can move to the iPad Pro already", etc...

What everyone is missing, is that it only takes ONE use case that the iPad Pro cannot fulfill, for your statements to be rendered false.

Are you doing your taxes on an iPad Pro? Are you managing your document history on an iPad Pro? Are you creating complex excel docs on an iPad Pro? Are you managing your entire photo library on an iPad Pro? etc....

It just takes one case for the oversized phone OS to fail, for it NOT be a computer replacement. Sure, SOME archive, record retention can be fulfilled with cloud storage, but it's usually those special documents you DON'T want out of your possession, locked behind a monthly payment.

In fact, I know very few people, who can ditch their computers for a iPad Pro.

It's almost like Intel chips don't come with integrated modems or something.

You can do your taxes, manage your document history, and manage your photo library on an iPad Pro. Don't know about the "complex Excel document". Then again, most people don't use Excel anyway to do complex things.

I guess I'll be the only one here who says, I like these Ads. They remind me of the old 'get a mac' campaign. We need to remember Apple never really catered to the nerds who wanted the most power, but to the regular consumers, and to them these ads are going to talk to them. These are far better them some of the terrible iPhone ones released lately.

This post feels like a weird reality back in time with 'get a mac' ads being released, but instead of macrumors readers being Apple fans, they're all PC fans flocking to point out how microsoft is better.

I will try it! thx :) looks like you can share screen but I've tested a bunch now and typically it is sharing a powerpoint - not sharing your screen. but I'll give it a go!

Please don't kiss my feet but look into https://zoom.us/
[doublepost=1487491820][/doublepost]I've been trying to find a solution but gave up. It might be a solution now? Got the tip to use https://zoom.us

I simply want to use Skype and share my screen with a colleague when working with photoshop or another application to share my visual ideas.

But you can share your screen. Is there any specific way you want to do it? Because you can do it and in many ways.

I find it funny how people try extrapolating their needs to other people. It might not be the right product for you, but it is for many others!
