How on earth can they promote it being better than a computer when you can not even share your screen? That is a fundamental function in any serious business. I can basically not use my iPad for work since a lot of our work is remote and screen-sharing. A devoted apple fan since 1993. This is bad Apple. Shape up. Why on earth should it not be possible to share my screen?

For what purpose? Every web meeting product I've used has the ability to share a web site or PowerPoint Presentation. Do you want people to see your springboard?

The iPad is indeed a capable device. I work as a Business Analyst for a big company. I can do about 80% of my day job on an iPad Pro. If you subtract the stuff I need Office Macros for, I get close to 90%. I spend the bulk of my day answering emails (can do in iOS Outlook), working in Word (the iOS version handles everything I need, save 1 macro Irun at document completion) or MS Excel (some of the pivot table stuff on the standard sheet I use doesn't work, but that's 1% of my total Excel time). I take meeting notes in OneNote on iOS. I use a Smart Keyboard.

The place where the wheels fall off my iOS bus are working with Visio documents. I can't do this on macOS either (OmniGraffle isn't an option). The Worfklow app on the iOS is in a much better state than Automator is on macOS.

I'm learning to draw again, and Procreate and the Pencil are awesome.

Screen sharing and Webex is an issue, and if you need to to that stuff, then no, an iPad isn't an option.

None of this means Apple is going to abandon macOS and only sell iPad Pros.

In my personal life, I'm close to 90% iPad-only. I can't manage my Calibre library to break the DRM on my Amazon books to back them up, and a few other things.

I welcome these ads. A lot o us who live iOS-primary have been hoping Apple would start a "company line" about using these devices for real work.

Apl ads will not convince your boss, they know very well what a computer is and it isn't MaxipadPro,
You can like or even love the 9.7,129 Maxipad pro, but love it for what it is.... a tablet running a mobile os with a stylus capability.

Its like with my SP4 (M3) with only 4GB/128GB (expandable by SD to potentially 2TB) ....I know its limitations. I freely tell people when they ask about it . I warn them...that it only has 4GB of RAM as to not mislead them about what it can potentially do. I also talk up the screen, portability, pen, Cortana, battery life, Type cover, kickstand, fanless and flexibility.... soon enough the 4GB "warning" I gave goes away for many.

Be honest, love your Maxipadpro for what it is and don't try to convince people its a computer.

It's kind of funny how some things don't seem to change much even after 10 years.
Mac vs PC has become iPad vs PC
Even rehashing the whole virus reason.

One thing is for certain, we're not going to see any new Mac mini's any time soon. The iPad Pro is Apple's entry level 'computer'.

I'm sure an iPad can't replace a pc for most of the people who frequent this site but for the average consumer who usually aren't power users it can easily handle all of their computing needs. In fact more and more people only use their smartphone for most tasks

From reading some of these posts I really think some people are missing the point. The iPad Pro is a computer replacement for the AVERAGE user, it's not meant to replace a Mac for the video editor who uses Final Cut Pro everyday (for example. The average computer user, checks their emails, surfs the internet, maybe a little word processing and plays the odd game, all of which the iPad Pro can do. Add in the Apple Pencil and the iPad Pro is very good for drawing and taking notes with, it's response and lack of lag is excellent. I use mine daily and it's a great device.

It will not replace a desktop OS no matter how many adds Apple makes.

I does not have to replace the desktop in totality, for MANY it has already replaced the need for a desktop and/or laptop. I personally no longer take a laptop when I travel, I bring only my iPhone and iPad Pro. I'm perfectly comfortable with that and it's resulted in less weight and bulk, I no longer even bring a dedicated laptop bag. I still have a MacBook Pro to move around the house with and Mac Pro desktop in my office but while traveling the iPad Pro has absolutely replaced a traditional computer for me and I'm happier because of it.

Funny. My boss cares more that I get my work done. Not the platform I get it done on.

Is yours different?

I want to love the iPad. I know lots of people love the iPad. And I do totally agree that for most use average cases, and iPad is probably better. But as a developer/designer/photographer, I need too many things that an iPad doesn't do.

Wow, they even promoted Microsoft Word instead of, well, their own Pages.
It's great for many people until they realise an iPad Pro costs as much as a better computer that is definitely faster than the iPad Pro.

Of course they won't mention Pages. Have you looked at how little they've done with it? Why advertise a dead product?

Yea , they buy PC's and quit providing Ipads (short lived experiment) to people since they never used them LOL

It's clear that Apple is giving up on the "professional" market..... We need the most powerful hardware and software....Not a tablet, iMessage enhancements, or "phone" features baked into macOS billed as magical.

"Everyone" in the tech community seems very defensive whenever Apple tries to sell the iPad as a computer that can be used work. The kind of work people do to make money. And I see why, we're all kind of scared that the platform where we do all our work and love so much is slowly dying and one day may not be supported. And I think to a certain degree that is a healthy concern, however I feel the majority of people here are far to worried and defensive from just watching the ad.

As of right now some people can use the iPad for all of their work. However that won't be most of us (the Apple lovers that are looking at an Apple forum right now). And even if iPads get to the point where they're running full featured adobe premiere and Xcode I don't exactly see why the desktop and laptop would go away. It seems to me that if you're gonna do your 9to5 at a desk than you'll probably have a nice big computer on your desk.
