how is a company that remains the most profitable and continues to increase their sales and actually creates markets that those you seem to love can only be successful at once Apple shows them the way. pathetic!

I can't even pretend to know the answer, in large part because I have no idea what the question might be.

Don't other phones have higher PPI or pixel density? What exactly is so special about retina display?

Does it really matter that much? Once it reaches retina levels the only thing that matters is the quality and colors of the screen. You can't discern it even if it does have a higher ppi.

I have not seen the Galaxy S4 yet, so I cannot tell whether it makes a difference or not, or if I will need a microscope to see the individual pixels on it. But that is not really the point.

The point is that Apple is just saying that its products are the only ones to have retina displays. Is Apple trying to deceive consumers or what? A retina display is just a trademark for a display with a very high pixel density. Samsung has it, Motorola has it, HTC has it, Nokia has it, and nearly every smartphone maker has it these days. They are just not named retina, due to copyright and/or trademark issues.

Seems like Apple is going to push ads for the white iPhone 5 as the default color now.
That's cause the black model gets all scratched up after about a month.

Personally, I think the iPhone 5 is done. Everyone I know wants the new Galaxy 4 or phone from HTC. It's high ppi 5-inch screens or bust!

Okay. But I seem to remember several occasions of mass iOS app updates for ‘compatibility’ with new iOS versions; what about that?

I’m not saying Android isn’t fragmented, but iOS isn’t non-fragmented either—although it’s still more unified than Android is.
Your device was supported from June 2007 until June of 2010 when iOS 4 was released. There are thousands of Android models still being sold as new with an OS that incompatible with any of the software using new API from over a year ago. And there is no Guarantee that the next real update to 5.0 won't break compatibilty again.

Yes, that is the point.

The only thing special about retina displays is the very high pixel density. It was unique back in 2010 when the iPhone 4 was unveiled.

Now, every smartphone maker has been able to replicate it. It is still something special for tablets and laptops, but all high-end smartphones now have a retina-class display.

I don't know why Apple stresses that in the new iPhone ad. Looks like a desperate attempt to show an additional advantage of the iPhone over the competition, even if it is no advantage at all, since most of them have similar displays.

Apple used it since no one can sue; I guess "retina" is trademarked. It just sounds cool and impressive.

Would you care to share?

I've owned 6 Android devices, and I've either sold or returned them all. The Nexus 7 was the best of all, but it was still a poor imitation of the iPad.

I have never returned an Android device, but you maybe interested to know that even Apple users sell or return their idevices. It is something a lot of people do.

Can you please explain how a Nexus 7 is a poor imitation of the iPad??

Ironically a BUNCH of people put up with Samsung mainly because of a replaceable battery. I have begged for years. Apple, offer a double battery capacity BTO option. Some people NEED. it. Not want, need.

I had to put my 4S on the charger twice today and considering how far I was from civilization one of those times, it was a safety issue.

Rocketman

I hate to say this but apple is doing the same thing blackberry did threw the years. They basically release the same product with minor changes. They better wake up soon. I've had every iphone. If the 5s is the same old thing I will be done.

Closing all apps
Multitasking

multitasking on a phone is not the best use of resources. The iphone did it better before. you could always talk on the phone and surf the web or use other apps. music was always available while doing other things, including talking on the phone. I use to let people hear music from my phone while on a call. The ability to easily call three other people for a conference was a feature many still don't know they have. many of the Android lovers/ apple haters on this site lately have no idea what iOS can do beneath the surface. Each release provides hundreds of features some have been available for access for the impaired since day one but Android sells it as a new feature. If you read the release notes for Android 4.2 it's mostly a list of features from iOS 6 or before. mostly some gimicky stuff the no one will use ling term.

Please apple. I love your products. May I have an iPhone with a larger screen as my eyes are failing me. Will I have to wait till 2014 when the competition all around are already boasting larger displays?

Because we like this forum and are interested in Apple news? You don't have to love Apple to be here.

Well then, link these "many many MANY" sites.
link yours first.
Haters have to have somewhere to share their hate. The sane people on the Android site don't care for all the negative vibes so you come here instead?

What change would make you stay with the iPhone?

Would be a good video ad.

Only iPhone has retina display, while other phones have a bigger screen and better PPI (ie. HTC 8X).

I rated your post up because I like your idea, but you have to understand that talking about the Retina Display on an ad won't be very effective. Other than techies and geeks, the rest of the world that buys this phone (aka Joe the Plumer) won't even understand the Retina ad. Apple's doing the right type of ad talking about reasons why you'll love it while reminding people why they loved theirs from the start.

I would love a iPhone that has the same screen size as the note 2.

The problem is that iOS apps wouldn't be able to use a new screen size without being rewritten for it, unlike Android which can scale. If you think the simple increase in size of the iPhone 5 is bad for app compatibility, it will be an absolute nightmare with another screen size that has both different width and height.

What this guy said - A lot of reviews have said the HTC One is the best display ever seen on a smartphone.
I looked for reviews and the only ones that I saw that mirrored your claim, word for work actually, had Android in their name. go figure. a site about a product that actually supports their products. I need to go back to see how many Apple lovers are trolling there. my guess 0! Well here are just a couple of head to head comparison that go further than specs.

The Iphone 5 screen lives up to the claims that it is the best smartphone screen ever, and is undoubtedly the best display yet to grace an Iphone. The 4in display is ridiculously crisp and has excellent viewing angles, with its only letdown being its poor outdoor visibility. However, it's fair to say that the screen on the HTC One X fares no better in direct sunlight.
That said, the 4.7in display on the HTC One X is also one of the most gorgeous on the smartphone market, offering great vibrancy, clarity and viewing angles. However, compared to the Iphone, text can look a tiny bit fuzzy.
Winner: Iphone 5

Overall winner: Iphone 5
The HTC One X is undeniably a great smartphone, and it is a better choice for those who prefer the Android operating system. However, if you're after a speedy smartphone with a great design and a fine screen, the Iphone 5 comes out on top.

All three of the smartphones boast brilliantly bright and crisp displays, thoughin our opinion, the iPhone 5 has the best.
Apple's loaded the iPhone 5 with an impressive 4in 1136x640 326 ppi screen that features the firm's custom Retina display technology.
We found that while smaller than the S3 and One X+'s 4.7in and 4.8in displays and actually boasting a lower ppi count than the impressive 720x1280 330ppi Super Amoled display of the Samsung device, the iPhone 5 just looked better.
Running the three head-to-head, we found the iPhone's display was slightly crisper and colours were a touch more vibrant than on the One X+ and S3.
That said, the difference in is minor and we only noticed it after a prolonged period of time closely comparing all three screens. Ultimately, all three devices have great screens and most users won't notice the minor difference in quality unless they really look for it.
Winner: The iPhone 5

I've been thinking, Apple needs to revive the whole "I'm a Mac" vs "I'm a PC" with a "I'm an iOS" vs "I'm an Android".

Let's be serious guys. The people that wanted the iPhone 5 bought an iPhone 5 already. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple is selling more iPhone 4/4s to casual iPhone buyers because of the price. Do we really think an ad will all of a sudden change people's mind? The iPhone is the most popular phone out there and the vast majority of people already know what their getting. Even a 10 year old knows what a Retina display is by now because everyone has beaten the word to death. Retina is now meaningless to Android fanbois.
The HTC One and the Samsung S4 are clearly far superior to the iPhone 5. It's like Apple knew this and decided to whip up a quick ad to "try" to make people love the iPhone 5 again. The sales of the iPhone 5 are only going to get worst because of how Apple trains everyone to wait for the next release and because of competition.
We are only 3 months into 2013 and we still have Google releasing the next version of Android and their entire Nexus line. Then you have Motorola which is a sleeping giant. And you got Samsung again with the Note 3.
