you should get a battery case. the reason for the non replacable battery is because they wanted the device to last longer. Removable batteries have contacts that lose their connection over time and use then they start creating other issues like shorting boards etc. this is why they are headed this way with laptops too.
My 4S is about 1.1 years old. The battery is already not holding as much charge as when it was new by over 20%. Maybe I will get an auxiliary battery just to bring it up to factory spec until the 6 comes out. But the fact I have to, or suffer hard, is my issue with Apple engineering.

Apple! BTO double battery . . . .

The media is mocking the Samsung 7 second verbal photo option. It is meta data which is a caption. I think the idea has strong merit. Add a text option! For all past photos ever!

Or in other words:
Yes we recognize how useless our iDevices are, compared to certain Android-based devices. That's the reason why we need this ad campaign.
"Useless" because a device released 6 month ago doesn't have as much features as the latest, soon-to-be-released device?

I agree that the timing of this Apple "ad" is awkward and uses some weak arguments (Retina and Siri come to mind) but I don't see how this is Apple admitting that their products are useless.

I had a 3S, then a 4, now a 4 again, but a Nexus 4.

I really like this Nexus thing, just seems lightyears beyond the iphone at this point (integration with everything, etc, ease of use while having more options, etc).

I'll keep buying mbps though. :apple:

Wow i actually have both the Nexus 4 and a 4s .. im in a love hate relationship with the nexus ..why ? well heres a couple

1. it commits suicide everytiime i rest it on something and it vibrates
2. The speaker is too tinny
3. It overheats like an old school chevy
4. Using it as hotspot is a pain, when connected devices are idle for a long time, it kicks them out.
5. Very hard to read in the sun.
6. Limited storage.
7. poor reception.
8. poor battery life.
9. poor camera quality

i can go on but its too early in the morning to type :p

The HTC One X is undeniably a great smartphone, and it is a better choice for those who prefer the Android operating system. However, if you're after a speedy smartphone with a great design and a fine screen, the Iphone 5 comes out on top.

http://m.theinquirer.net/inquirer/review/2216467/apple-iphone-5-vs-htc-one-x-head-to-head-review

The HTC One is not the same screen as the HTC One X.

Comparo: http://www.gizmag.com/iphone-5-vs-htc-one-specs-comparison/26356/

As for 'most gorgeous screen' here's what Engadget had to say (http://www.engadget.com/2013/03/12/htc-one-review/):

"Tiny details aside, the One's display is the most gorgeous we've seen thus far."

Also of note:
"It's slightly brighter than the DNA's and significantly better than the One X+'s S-LCD2;"

From The Verge:
"Once you turn it on, the One gets even prettier. Its 4.7-inch, 1920 x 1080 display (that’s 468 ppi) is the sharpest I’ve ever seen. Whether you want to call it "Retina" or something else — I’m sort of surprised HTC doesn’t have a goofy name for it — the fact remains that the screen is tack-sharp, colors are fantastic, blacks are impressively deep, and it looks great from any angle."

No matter how you cut it, HTC's One could very well be the only phone that can compete with Apple in every way - specs, software, and most importantly - build quality.

Apple's blasting everyone with this email ad blatantly screams how threatened they feel. and they should feel that way...b/c as an iPhone 4S user, i'm not a fan of the upgrade possibilities on the near horizon for me if i was to stick with an iPhone. i am available for an upgrade in October so by then they should have announced the iPhone 5S. unless the 5S will actually be the 6 and have VERY significant improvements and innovations, i plan on jumping ship to Android. who knows, i might come screaming back to the iPhone. doubt it though, considering how polished and functional Android has become. i still have a bad taste in my mouth from the beginning of that platform, but i hear it's completely different now.

Apple is not typically a company that reacts to the competition nor have i thought they should, but now is different and i am actually rooting for them to react to the GS4 with a completely new twist of innovation that no one in the industry has thought of before. i would prefer to not leave the iPhone, so i'm hoping for something good that will convince me otherwise

These are just silly:

Thinner, lighter design - So much than before. And so much less, too - Wow now that's something. A new phone that was thinner AND lighter than it's predecessor! Here I thought it would be bigger and heavier!

Ultra fast wireless - Just like Android phones, so what?

iSight camera - The camera you love now shoot panorama - My Galaxy Nexus shoots panorama before PLUS it shoot with Photo Sphere. So what? If anything, the iPhone's camera software is limited.

iOS 6 - The world's most advanced mobile operating system. - More like the most limited...

-Customization
-Widgets
-Custom lock screen
-Google Now (better than Siri at this point)
-Larger screens available
-Choose default browser
-Alternative keyboards
-Custom home launchers
-Removable storage and battery (on some phones)
-Custom ROMS

Want me to go on? ;)
no. Not unless you list some useful features. customization is not that important. simply being able to open a PDF or Doc file from an email natively would be useful. Something iOS had done since 2007 just like alternative keyboards. The 360 Panorama App has been available for iOS since June 2010. Custom lock screens since 2010, if you want a custom home launcher put whatever apps you want in up to four folders by dragging apps on to one another, the place on the stationary doc at the bottom of the screen. Now you have 4 custom Home launchers
custom roms? isnt that what apps are for. i actually have an Apple II and a Dos emulator not to mention Atari on my iPhone. I like that my default browser is designed to secure my phone. It updates with the OS and I don't have to keep up with updates and or risk infecting my phone by downloading a malware infected app from google play. Removable batteries are a bad thing because they compromise the stability over time as the contacts wear and bend. Google Now would be more useful if it could open apps like Siri can. I've had widgets on my Mac for years but never found them to be useful.
That leaves larger screens. I think its a fad that will fade when other companies get better at battery life and more efficient OSs that don't require octa processors just to function at the level or iOS on a dual. I have no interest in carrying a phone that is wider than my portable 500 GB G Drive.
what you say is limited OS I see as a much smarter implementation at is far more efficient and useful.

I'm confused... you have bad eyesight, but can see pixels...

Yup, that's how it works. If I hold it a foot away, it's blurry and I can't make out anything. If I hold it 6" away, it's crisp and looks great, but at that point it's so close I can see pixels.

Also, can't get a Note because the screen is too big. To see the whole thing I'd have to hold it about 8" away, and at that point it would be blurry. 5" is about the perfect size for me, with my glasses both on and off.

Nearsighted people are weird. We can actually perceive more detail than the average person with our glasses off/contacts out and the object right up close, because our eyes focus at a closer range.

my coworker showed my his iPhone today and he has increased the font size. might help

That's not the problem. It's just too blurry if it's more than about 6" from my face, whether the text is large or not. I suppose it's kind of hard to explain to people with better vision than myself

the mail app is making me reconsider iPhone

I've been a mac guy since 1994, through them all. Once the iphone came out, I never considered any other phone. Until now.

My communications through email is critical to my employment but I can't count the number of times I've typed in someone's email name or a word in the subject line that I know was in the email someone sent me, only to get the response, "No Results Found on Server". I've gone to the Apple store and shown them an email from 2 weeks ago from John Doe and then when I go to 'Search Inbox' and type John Doe, It shows his email. From a year ago. And nothing else.

I stood next to my assistant who has a droid or something like that and typed in John Doe in the Search Inbox and as the wheel spun whilst it was looking for it, he typed in 'Joh..' and before he could finish TYPING it, it gave him a list of John's, he found the same email from John Doe that my iPhone was still spinning in search of, and pulled it up.

By the time I found John Doe's email, it was one that was 3 months old.

How is this productive?

you should take it to the apple store right away. you are a little over the warranty period but if you are nice they may just swap it out for you. also try letting it die completely then charging overnight.
I think photos are big enough without adding audio. its a solution in search of a problem. I think most people would prefer video instead of just hearing the audio with a still.

multitasking on a phone is not the best use of resources. The iphone did it better before. you could always talk on the phone and surf the web or use other apps. music was always available while doing other things, including talking on the phone. I use to let people hear music from my phone while on a call. The ability to easily call three other people for a conference was a feature many still don't know they have. many of the Android lovers/ apple haters on this site lately have no idea what iOS can do beneath the surface. Each release provides hundreds of features some have been available for access for the impaired since day one but Android sells it as a new feature. If you read the release notes for Android 4.2 it's mostly a list of features from iOS 6 or before. mostly some gimicky stuff the no one will use ling term.

Was that because of the iphone or was it because you were using GSM?
Smartphones are more than phones now a days. They are actually pocket computers that pretty much keep you tied in.

iOS7 really needs an overhaul but I don't think we'll get it until next year unless Apple skips calling the next phone a "S" and goes straight to 6. They definitely need to update it for their tablets. Not sure why they didn't use some type of card view multitasking when changing apps

I remember when having a BlackBerry was the cool thing to have. I hope in a few years it won't be I remember when having an iPhone was the cool thing to have.

I think it's starting to hit home at Apple that the competition is in it to take the #1 spot

I'm not sure what your issue is but I don't think its an iPhone problem. What email service are you using.? If it is exchange there are settings on the server side but also that you can adjust in settings. I have .mac, .me, and iCloud accounts. I don't use my google or yahoo for anything but junk mail. i typed in Thomas in the search box an in 5 seconds every Thomas that emailed me going back to 2008 came up.

Even Apple doesn't know why the iPhone is great

What this campaign should emphasize is:
  • SUPERIOR apps to every other platform. Show off Fantastical, Mailbox, Tempo, Infinity Blade, that are iOS exclusive.
  • Best customer support with numerous Apple Stores, genius bars, etc. (already mentioned)
  • Industry leading design (the runner up HTC One is copy cat)
  • The phone that people USE - iPhone has better usage stats of web browsing, etc. than ANY other phone. While Android can tout numbers, Apple can tout that people actually use their devices.
  • Extensive 3rd party accessory market. Since there is just a few iPhones, there are significantly more accessories (cases, speakers, chargers, etc.) than any other phone - bar none.
  • Mac OS X & iPad. <- no one else also has the best tablet and desktop/laptop experience. Integration between products is best in industry.

What kind of point is - "we have the retina display"?? Um...

I imagine APPLe will say IOS 7 won't run on the iPad 2 and 3 this time around like they did with the iPad 1 when IOS 5 was released.

Not to mention half of my apps will no longer work without an update. Another reason for better backwards compatibility or compatibility mode setting.

Does that mean it won't run on the ipad mini? Doesn't it share more or less the same ipad2 hardware?

How can they claim that they only have the retina display? Almost all flagship smartphones have been shipping with retina displays for 1.5 years now.

Most non tech (fidlers) are happier with iOS as it is and i know many Andriod lovers who suddenly switch back to the iPhone as soon as they can upgrade. You would never expect it until they can because they don't want to look like they made a poor choice.
Apple maintains the highest satisfaction because they include features people use and make it easier to do so. they also manage the overall experience better. Having lots of Android phones coming out now helps Apple because each one is compared to a year old phone and it makes it impossible for them to copy what apple does. Thats why the moved the iOS reveals back. Google is Holding their event for 5.0 in May two months after the time when Apple would have introduced the new OS. The silence is a good sign the they are minimizing the leaks.

How can it NOT be an iPhone problem when other phones/software get it right??

This is what baffles me about Apple diehards. It's NEVER Apple's fault. You can show them the proof to their face, and they will blame the user or insist it has to be something else. It's complete craziness. Apple gets a ton of stuff wrong. It's why I no longer use my iPhone. You just have to wake up and finally admit it to yourself one day. Feels good to be free of the cage though, have to admit.

Would you care to share?

I've owned 6 Android devices, and I've either sold or returned them all. The Nexus 7 was the best of all, but it was still a poor imitation of the iPad.
I have no intrest to start Android VS. iOS debates here since they are always the same. I can just say that the only reason I still carry an iPhone is because of Apple's Eco-System that gives the ability to sync my rMBP with my iphone, and that's what is all about for me. Except for this ability, the iPhone has nothing superior over its greatest competitors.

How can they claim that they only have the retina display? Almost all flagship smartphones have been shipping with retina displays for 1.5 years now.

They can only be retina displays if the use Apple's patented tech. and there have only in ghe last 8 months had phone with a similar PPI, the design and other features that continue to allow iPhone to win head to head comparisons even when the other phone has a higher PPI, is what make it retina. To be so they would have license Apple's design which won't happen.

What design? Apple uses screens from 3rd party manufacturers. They don't build or design their screens. Any high ppi screen from the same manufacturer is basically of the same quality.

If the iPad can have a iPad Mini, imagine if the iPhone line was divided into two versions, iPhone and the iPhone Maxi, with it having a 5.5" screen.

It would be amazing and make a lot of people happy. Heck it doesn't even need retina display, just a larger version of the iPhone would be fantastic and I think it would really sell super well.

(along with a new 19" Retina Macbook Pro)

[*]Industry leading design (the runner up HTC One is copy cat)

How is this?

Nobody's going to look at the HTC One and think it's an iPhone. The HTC One is built on curves, the iPhone is a flat slab.

They both happen to use aluminum in their construction, but that's the *only* similarity.

Different form factors, different internals, different external construction, different OS.....

Ok, iPhone Maxi makes me think of one of my wife's pads. Does it have wings? LOL

19" Retina MBP I would buy today if available. ARG.

Seems like Apple is going to push ads for the white iPhone 5 as the default color now.

it's not that. It is to do with contrast. They want to text to be the focal point and not the phone. Everyone knows what the iPhone looks like so if they put black iPhone in there your eye would be drawn to that instead of the text. Apple intends you to read the text then look down to find out what the text is implying to.

PS. The white iPhone does look beautiful though. More so than anything else on the market
