Uh. How about making a PHONE with decent battery life.
My dumb phone back in the day could rock a week without a charge.
My SMART phone has to have a battery pack to get me through halfway?
Innovation Microsoft style.
I miss Steve.

what did you do on your dumb phone? how much of the time you use your smart phone, do you do only those things?

good luck looking at holiday photos on a nokia 3310 or playing more than snake 2

Not surprising. When have Apple's accessories ever been the best, at least according to the tech press. There's always something just as good (or better) for cheaper. And maybe this is by design to keep the 3rd party market healthy.

I've never understood this notion that Apple purposely designs things people don't want. At the end of the day they want to sell product. Isn't it harder to sell product if you're making things people don't want to buy? Yet Apple is selling more iPhones than ever before.

Apple also limits options. So if you want to stay in their ecosystem - you're sort of stuck... aren't you? "Thinner" isn't something many people care about. Back in the 90s maybe. Even early 2000's. But I have rarely if ever heard someone complain that their phone was too thick. Tall/wide maybe. But thick? Not so much.

Apple has even commented that they don't listen to customers previously. I don't think that's entirely true and the court case with Samsung revealed data that negated that. I don't think Apple PURPOSELY designs things people DON'T want. But I never said that. That's a strawman argument as far as I am concerned.

While it's definitely a shock upon first sight, the design really isn't bad at all. I'm sure it's even nicer in person and in hand.

Thanks! That was what I was looking for. It's hardly worth the effort for that. I have an external that I carry around, that isn't much larger than the "hump" on that case, and it's 90,000mAh.
lol.... show me a picture of that magical 90,000 mAh small battery

It weighs more also because it's bigger/has a larger screen (something I could care less about)

i thought that was obvious.

if they make two dimensions bigger, the only way they can keep the weight down is make it thinner. keep the same thickness as the 5S and you're looking at another 10% in weight.

Having just watched the review video at TheVerge, I think I can better understand the thought process that went into the design.

You want a one-piece case that is flexible enough to insert the phone in easily, you can't have a battery that encompasses the entire back, so a "hump" that fills up half the surface area of the case kinda makes sense.

The case passively charges your phone, keeping it at at near full battery life for as long as possible, so if I want, I can just rip the iPhone of the case, leave the battery case in my bag and leave with a fully charged iPhone in hand. I just hope there is no downside to having the iPhone be charging continuously all day in this manner.

It looks like an adhesive bandage.

Thank you. It basically is another 100% of charge for an iPhone 6.

Sure. And if Apple would have presented a leather case you would have complain about the need for a silicone one ...

except Apple had never been this high under Steve Jobs direction ...

This is MacRumors. A nest of haters and serial complainers. What do you expect ?

Again, it is so typical here.
I didn't read any complain about Mophie battery cases in the past.

Seeing as I use an Apple leather case I wouldn't complain about a leather option, though I see why they did silicone.

On the whole, I agree with your post. Not sure why you thought I was complaining.

I'm sure Apple knows exactly how many Mophie cases they sell in their own stores and want to capture some of the market. If you're buying a new iPhone and want a battery case and realize that Apple makes one, there's a good chance you'll choose their case over a third party. Also introducing these just before the Holidays makes them a great stocking stuffer gift for the friend/relative who's always low on battery.

The design is a bit ugly, but an earlier poster pointed out that Apple seems to have included function (improved antenna, sound channeling, real lightning connector) and not just form which helps make up for the appearance. I'm not in the market for one, but can see Apple selling a bunch of them.

In my opinion Apple accessories are of the highest order. This is why I have never bought a case from anyone but Apple, the only case I found far superior was element case, and much more expansive.

3rd party accessories tend to be worth , what you pay for them .

This is the first Apple accessory that I've been shocked at first sight . I thought it was a cheap 3rd party will I read the post In detail. Never did I think Apple would start copying 3rd party accessories makers for things like this.

Love my Mophie!

At first, I was on the fence, due to its size. But taking the cover off and putting it on is a snap. It's also great that you can charge the case, while the phone is on your person. I'd say my phone wears its battery case about 50% of the time, but it has come in very handy.

No it just wants to cash in on the extended battery pack market that has existed ever since the original Mophie. But it does make you wonder why they are piddling with these penny ante (to Apple's bottom line) accessories when clearly Apple engineers could be better used in its main product departments. Seems like everything new out of Apple recently is either a new accessory or a slight update or derivative of a pre-existing product.
If you ignore the Apple Watch, or count it as an accessory, then yes. But you'd also have to count the original iPhone as an accessory, too, since you couldn't use it unless you had a computer. And the iPad was just a larger version. How often in the past has Apple released a completely new product that no one could claim was derivative or an accessory?

Except Steve Job's iPhone 3/3G/4 had a battery that last half of a modern iPhone 6/6S ....

How annoying are this comments ?
