I cannot understand the reasoning behind some of apple's decisions. How can they get rid of spaces???????? that was the best feature of OSx, the ability of having more than one desktop. I cannot believe they got rid of it, I regret a million times having updated to this lion thing, it is missing the one thing that made a difference to me.

You will soon get used to the awesome feature which is Mission Control :D

hey guys :)
hope you all are enjoying all the new features in Lion.
Just a small concern, is it just me or does it seem that the icons in my Launchpad are smaller than they should be? Seen quite a few screenshots and none of them looked like mine.

First impressions. I have a late 2009 Mac Mini with 2GB of memory, and I used to sometimes get stuttering when downloading podcasts, surfing web, Time Machine using the same external drive as iTunes and such. It may be just the new iTunes or it may be Lion, but my system works very smoothly now. However I do get beach ball every now and then.

Earlier this week I ordered 8GB of memory, so that'll help even further. And yesterday I also ordered Magic Trackpad. I bet Lion will sell truckloads of Trackpads and I'm pretty sure I'll love using Lion with gestures on such a large Trackpad.

One of the features I've been waiting for is Launchpad. I have lots of apps and Dock + Application directory, or even some 3rd party launchers I've tried, didn't quite cut it. Launchpad is very promising. It may be that I can't use it, but it's a bit slow to arrange lots of apps to multiple screens (or spaces or what ever those are called). I'd like to select multiple apps and move them at once, tried all kinds of alt/Cmd combinations, but didn't find a way to do this. Hopefully there's a way to do this.

What I didn't expect to like is Mission Control. But oh! It's very nice! It makes working with spaces much more natural. Great feature.

Very impressed with Lion. Best OS I've used.

Oh. Scrolling... First time I started using wheel mouses - quite long ago, when those first came to market - I felt that sculling with wheel worked the wrong way around. Now that I'm used to how it worked almost everywhere until Lion, change back to natural way seems odd, but I'm getting used to it and I'm sure it won't take more than a week or so.

Mines the same, I guess that's the standard size.

Help cannot download lion!!!

I have used up all my downloads so my broadband is relatively slow, so when I went to purchase Lion I clicked BUY and then it asked me to type in my apple account details (which I did) and then I clicked SIGN IN, it took ages even taking into account my internet speed was already slow, so I clicked it again. After like an hour I gave up and quite the App Store. When I opened it to try and purchase it again the sign in drop down box wouldn't even show! I tried it on my friends fully functional internet and same problem! The $32 is still in my account so I haven't purchased it. HELP!
Thanks.

Hmmm, contact apple ASAP..

Aye, Spaces was one of most most favourite features but I'm adjusting. One thing to note, for those that are not happy, is that you can still define which 'Desktop' and App starts up in. My system already had this when I upgraded as it remembered that I had 6 Spaces and created 6 Desktops for me, assigning the Apps as I had previously in Snow Leopard.

Finally managed to get Lion downloading, is it supposed to give an estimated time it will take? At the moment mine just says 'OS X Lion - Downloading...'.

Am generally liking it, but definitely having to get used to a few things.

Its weird that the scrolling is reversed, although my brain had never really noticed that it has until now been the opposite of how its done on the iPhone.

As someone who used and liked spaces and expose, mission control seems to have lost a little of their functionality.

Expose was great in that you could see all open windows in their entirety, even if they were shrunk a bit. When vista came along, the flip 3d thing was all very well, but it struck me as less useful as you had to go through the windows in turn rather than see them all in expose. so its a shame that MC has adopted this idea of stacking windows of the same programme together.

Old spaces had advantages too - you could fire up spaces, and simply drag windows between them. plus you generally had a larger view of each space to see what you were doing.

In MC you can't seem to move windows between spaces, but rather you have to first select your space as the main section, and move windows to the spaces in the row above. not quite as good i don't think, although once i got the swipe to move between spaces, that at least makes it pretty quick and easy.

So i think i'd like two options to be made available:

1. Be able to use a shortcut or gesture to whoosh the spaces into their old style grid layout and let you freely move windows between any two spaces without first having to select the space of origin.

2. Be able to view the expose in the old manner without the stacking.

Oh - and also be able to freely order the spaces at the top, rather than just have Apple's two options.

When you open Mission Control you can drag the windows up into the desktops and they'll stay there. Is that what you're after?

Could any one tell me how i could scroll from one desktop screen to another. On my 13" macbook pro i could open mail on my desktop, and then use my trackpad to scroll to another desktop screen. I can't seem to do i on my 15" macbook pro.

USA and EU Versions of OSX Lion?

Are these identical? Thinking of using my US itunes account as I have some Dollars left from a gift card.

I never realised you could do that...

Just tried it just now, but only had the options:

- All desktops
- This desktop
- None

Any ideas?

Yeh when you go to the AppStore App and click Purchases it says the estimated time remaining and how much it has downloaded

Yeah - I figured that out.

What I mean is that now you have to first select an active desktop, and then move a window.

Whereas before, in the Spaces view, you could move any window to and from any space.

Admittedly its only a small thing, just something to get used to.

Single monitor PUSH

Gee, if it wasn't bad enough with FCP X, Lion is also a single screen push! Just tried to full screen my iTunes on my second monitor and, FWOOSH back to monitor one and crappy (stylish) texture on second monitor... :(

BETTER FIX THIS APPLE! (not that you are listening)....

cc

this os is definately aimed towards the trackpad and magic mouse users. makes magic mouse more friendly. Overall the upgrade was smooth & painless. I didnt download this onto my studio mac mini.. Didnt wanna take a chance and not having my sounds work. lol... still familarizing myself with the new features. :apple:

When in Mission Control, move your cursor to the top right corner. A plus sign will appear, click it to add more desktops. Then, you will see options to add corners to these other desktops (they will be numbered). Hope this helps.

Anyone using Dreamweaver (CS5)? Doesn't seem to want to play with Mission Control. If its running, then the desktop in which it appears is showing as empty in MC. Doesn't even show apps / windows other than DW - DW seems to kill the lot.

I've always had DW problems in Expose in 10.6. Just feels like an Adobe thing.

So far I like what I'm seeing.

And well worth the £20.

I love the full screen apps...well done Apple.

Thanks - think I got it - when you first go into the options, set the app for the current desktop, and from then on it will launch in that desktop. And once set for a particular Desktop, it shows that desktop number in the options.

Didn't get what you meant by adding corners to desktops though?

Sorry, too early in the morning. Meant to say you can add your apps to these other desktops.
