WOW.. looks like Apple cannot appease the populace.

As the article said, this minor bump is just to tide over customers over until the next major update (which is dependent on Intel's new chip)...

Personally, i think the minor spec tweak is decent and maybe most of us can just hold off a bit longer and wait whats new on the next update.

Well, I wouldn't use it for just UNi -everything. Even a good bit of gaming when I can, the high end MBP seems to have a decent card. I'm just not sure whether or not to wait for a more significant leap in the range.

I like the newest and greatest things, it's an expensive problem I know; no need for a reply like that though. Jheeze
Please, focus on the fact that the models available today will do exactly what you need to do and I seriously hope that you won't be judged for having a year-old machine. What the hell will you do when you buy something in 2015? Will it be trash in 2016? Some true first world over-entitled problems you've got there.

What games do you intend to play because everything else you appear to want to do can be done on an iPad even. In terms of processing needs, your needs are quite minimal at best until you list the games you want to play.

How can one not blame Intel for the Broadwell delay? That's why we get a paltry 200MHz speed bump in 2014 for the MBP's and almost nothing for the MBA's.

However I'm not blaming Intel for not refreshing the Mac mini. That's all on Apple. I'm not sure about a new TB Display. Apple may be waiting for either a pixel doubled 2560x1440 display and/or the technology to drive that display.

Surely a 4K display would be announced at an event, not just a press release? With the Mac Mini I have to wonder if Apple doesn't have something more significant planned there. Otherwise it makes no sense that they wouldn't have updated it by now. I put the Mac Mini in the same camp as the Apple TV. Apple is working on something it's a matter of whether we see it this fall or next spring. Hopefully it's this fall.

It looks like waiting another month for this refurbished 13" MacBook Pro Retina would have saved me a whopping $80 more. I can live with that.

No drop on the base 15" refurb from US$1529 though.

Tiny hard drives still
Ridiculous.
Need Fusion Drive as standard in all mbp's.

This is about retina MacBook Pros. I DO NOT want mechanical drives anywhere near that machine, and because of it's thinness, you probaly can't get one in there anyway. But yeah, no fusion drive for my retina.

You're likely not the guy paying for this so-called "expensive problem" so please, focus on the fact that the models available today will do exactly what you need to do and I seriously hope that you won't be judged for having a year-old machine. Well, I'm studying Multimedia Journalism. I need to be able to edit/render videos whilst recording commentary in adobe audition at the same time; fast.

I want to be able to play Dota 2, League of legends & maybe a few MMO's.

I will be the guy 'paying' for this expensive problem, just because I'm a student it doesn't mean I won't be paying for it. It's all my own money, I just worked my ass off for the last 3 months to save the money. Unfortunately, my Father died to cancer in May. So, I was pulled out of my course with no money and a lot of work to do. I'm not entitled, I just like buying new things; I was wandering whether or not to wait until next year for a more significant upgrade. But, thanks for being an *******.

Yes, we need bigger drives. But, please, only pure SSD. I'm a bit sad progress is not a bit faster in this department. Where are my tiny, affordable, reliable and super fast 10+TB SSDs?

Uh oh! Time to upgrade! My rMBP is so slow.

Joking aside, it's something. I wonder if they'll have an update in a keynote this year with Broadwell delayed. I'm surprised about the RAM upgrade, but to me the SSD is what needs to be increased. 256GB in a $2,000 computer seems skimpy.

I think I'll wait until Broadwell and the Nvidia 800 series to enter the 15" rMBP. I won't be needing my iMac anymore since it will be just as powerful PLUS it'll be much more mobile.

Spec changes won't satisfy people anymore. Apple needs to make new Macbook in different colors or put an animated fish wallpaper on OS X, then people will praise Apple for innovation.

It's the same thing with the iPhone 3GS, 4S, and 5s. People all say there were not significant refresh despite the huge jump in SoC improvements every year. People only see physical-appearance changes as improvements.

Let's put it this way is perfect for a entry level machine. If you're a pro and make money doing pro level work then you're not going to buy an entry-level machine

If you are a professional and make money using your computer, you buy the computer that is best fit for purpose. I make a good living using a rMBP, and I have for example no need at all for discrete graphics, or for more than 256 GB SSD.

i have the original 15" rMBP... 2.3 GHz i7, 8GB 1600 DDR3 RAM, 256 SSD, NVIDIA 650M 1GB. When I bought it, I said this will be the last Mac I buy for a while, as it has everything I need (retina, USB3, thunderbolt, HDMI, SD reader, etc.). The thing still kicks @ss and there is zero reason for me to upgrade. I never outlive my full AppleCare for a device, but this one I probably will. It will be up next year and unless Apple releases a new form factor, I'll be keeping this one. Hands down, this is the best Mac I've ever owned, an I've owned about a dozen (all types) or more.

So seeing Apple put the latest and greatest in these is fine, but for the money, I'll keep mine for now.

There are stories about that SSDs are actually hitting a wall, where trying to produce more storage makes it wear out quicker, be less reliable, and so on. Number of atoms to store a single bit is just getting too small.

It will be interesting to see what Apple does with the Mac mini. It could be discontinued, become a mini Mac Pro, or become Apple TV-sized without fans. Obviously the either of the latter two are preferred.

Do ACD's get time at events any more? I'd like to think so but am not sure any more.

I don't think I would want a fusion drive on my MBP. Remember fusion drive is SSD+HDD .. so why would I go back to HDD when my MBP internals are already on SSD. Also, there is the question about size... with the current design of the macbooks (air/pro) - I don't think you will fit an hdd into it.

Why would you want a fusion drive in a notebook. The idea is to make them thinner and lighter, not heavier to accommodate a bigger hdd. It works in the iMac because it's got the space and it's stationary.

Well I am sorry to hear about your father but you need to relax buddy.
Today's machine, the 15" base model at that, will do exactly what you need it to do and more.

I'm not some ******* who made such an inane comment about looking outdated in a year if you buy a 2014 machine. Truly, if you have as much perspective as you claim to have, you'd know that today's machine will be great next year. The resale value of these machines is so great that if there is a huge spec bump and redesign in 2015, then you can sell your dated and seriously ugly 2014 machine and buy new. You said you needed it for Uni and need suggests that you need something now and you can't wait until 2015. Think about it.

And don't call me ****ing names, it's pointless and no one cares but the moderation team. Be better than that.

I think this upgrade hits the sweetspot for me. The 15" Retina with Nvidia graphics is only £400 more than the 21" iMac with similar specs, and as I'll need the portability for presentations and already have an external monitor and keyboard/mouse for my 5 year old Mac mini it'll be perfect as a replacement. Just get a docking system and I'll be sorted.

EDIT: In fact it'll be even better value as I start a post grad degree in September hence student discount.:)
