Sending mine in, I never use it since I got my iPhone but mine was pretty used up, the next button pretty much gave up and the battery would last about 3h. Not to mention how scratched up it is.

It was a good companion, I'm looking forward to getting a fully functional one back, I think I'll use it when doing sports and keep it plug in the car.

So who gets stuck with the one you sent in? Will it be fully refurbed? We need answers! :D

Mine is mint perfect. Not a single scratch.
Battery lasts about 3.20 hrs. And does not
heat up too !!
But still it's eligible for refurb.
What shall I do ?
Should I wait till someone does get a refurb on this forum.
Or send it to Apple ????
Advice plz:confused:

Why would you NOT want to swap it? I sent mine in cuz I don't want to burn alive and Apple recommends i send it in.

Here's a photo of someone who didn't sent their iPod Nano in:

So, how do we opt in for the 10% discount? I already signed in for the replacement package.

10% is crap considering how much they would save on labor for the refurb and shipping.

If you have already opted in for the replacement and they are shipping you a box you are still not obligated to send it in at that point. This quote from the email they sent me after I opted for replacement tells me that they are playing it very casual with returns;

"To avoid cancellation of this replacement request, you must return the original to Apple within ten (10) business days. If you no longer require service, simply dispose of the package Apple sends you."

Based on that I would assume that you could simply not send it in and go get the 10% discount instead if you choose to do so.

New ipod

The text:

"If you have a personalized iPod nano, you will receive a non-personalized replacement."

in the replacement program page definately tells us we will get something else back than what was sent in at least.

Yay filled in the form :) Hopefully they replace them with something newer as my old Nano is on its very last legs it cant even play all the songs synced to it lol the hard drive is screwed lol

Yeah but does that mean they're replacing batteries and we might get someone else's personalized or nonpersonalized ipod or will we get an iPod from the refub pile (which is preferred by me?

They are replacing them with the 1st gen iPod just called apple and spent 20min on the phone trying to find out LOL, he said they were replacing them with 1st gen iPods that they are making for this replacement program

Be nice to know what replacement is, I think my mom has an old one that she no longer uses. It would be nice to have a nano around if it's a newer one. If it's the same thing it's probably not worth it.

I just submitted my serial number and they are sending a shipping box to me. There is no way they will be replacing these with 1st gen nanos. My guess is that it will be current gen nanos. Didn't Japan have a similar mail back program last year? I wonder what replacements they received...

I'll believe that when I see it. Seems like that'll cost more than handing out current-gen refurbs... I'll take whatever as it's a great gesture by Apple but how much will it cost to bring that old sweatshop back online in China?

"they are making for this replacement program"

are they making new ones or refurbing them?

Thats what i thought but he said thats what they were doing.

I would rather a new iPod nano just because it has more storage. It would be cheaper for them to do it like that as well.

Even if it's in great shape it doesn't have anything to do with the problem. The problem is one lot of faulty batteries made by a single manufacturer.

He should check if his serial number is part of the lot of iPod nanos with a defective battery.

It is.

"making"

Damn Clinton, you got me questioning single words!

They are actually making a new batch of 1st Gen Nanos to replace the faulty ones?

Bizarre but kinda cool if true.

Great gesture? They fought for 7 years and only after it seemed clear that they would loose possible future lawsuits they offer the replacement program.

I would expect that most units will be refurbished. Although, not sure how well you can refurbish 7 year old used devices. Maybe it's really cheaper to just make a new batch.

No "new first generations" being made!!

NOT A CHANCE Apple will invest in trying to recreate old technology -- too much cost and a PR nightmare! I am confident they are doing what they've said: Taking in first generation, replace battery and back, send them back with 90 day warranty. The rest of this "hoping" "wishing" and speculating is out of control!!

But a lot of people are sending in non-functioning or barely-functioning iPod nanos. Are they going to fix every one of them before they randomly send them out?

How about $75 store credit? I'd put that towards an iPad. Good marketing strategy.

from the looks of the address of where the boxes are being sent it looks like they are going to be repaired and refurbished.
