I'm pretty sure Apple could let people pre-order (heck, order) right now if they wanted to. Yes, there's logistics behind this, but I'm sure there's a bit of marketing psychology behind this, too. I'd love to see the study on heightened anticipation which indicates an increase in sales...
Indeed it is. It's about reducing order cancellations by diluting the uncomfortable feeling of "buyer's remorse" associated with a big-ticket purchase.

I mean, how can anyone feel any remorse, whatsoever, from a non-committal pre-pre-order? It's like a nothing commitment.

But in the meantime, you're being won-over by the thought of having a "privileged" place in a queue that cost you nothing (nothing right now, of course).

Bottom line is it gives you time to gradually get comfortable with blowing $1K+ on a phone.

Very clever. Artful even.

Could not pre - preorder using veteran status. Page just flashed and redirected, attempted to contact support but was notified support was currently overwhelmed and to try again later ( tried three hours later, still too busy ).
How did you do this outside the app?

Edit: Found it but it doesn’t work.

Does anyone know how easy it is to adjust storage capacity Friday morning after already getting pre-approved?

I checked my storage usage on my 512gb model and Settings showed I had used less than half, so I bumped down to the 256gb model. After I finished all that and got approved, I went back to settings and it had updated to being nearly full 🤦🏻‍♂️

I see it says:

Just curious if anyone remembers from last year how easy a change that is or if I’ll lose 5 minutes redoing it Friday morning.
not sure if you got an answer but you can "delete" the pre pre order and re do it.

Anyone able to complete the process doing a Verizon upgrade? After I make all the selections, the button at bottom that says ‘Get Ready for Pre-Order’ is grayed out and I can’t press it to complete.

It says us Verizon customers can’t do it until the 17th. Just set everything the way you want it and save it as your favorite. Very easy to order on Friday. I did it last year in less than two minutes that way.

I hate that preorders are so early, (8am Eastern) but I'm looking forward to it otherwise.

I used to do iPhone Upgrade Program faithfully, but have switched to Apple Card monthly payments.
Did you switch from IUP so you could use the Apple Card? Or just to move away from IUP in general? Wasn't sure from your post. I'm still in the IUP and my monthly payments are on my Apple Card. I just went through the IUP readiness smoothly once again (carrier AT&T).

Ok, we believed you were ready. No need to send a screenshot. Just trying to wrap my head around your reasoning of thinking anyone would care what color you bought. It would have been easier to just use words. If for some bizarre reason somebody replied that they didn’t believe you ordered the blue iPhone then I would have seen the justification to send proof of purchase. BYW What color is your current phone? Can you send a picture. If you have a dog or cat could you include them in the picture too. It would be really cute if somehow you could maybe tape the phone on his ear using clear tape so that it looks like he’s making a call to someone. Or put his paw on the screen at make it looks like he’s playing Angry Birds. It would make more sense if it were a cat due to the cats justified hatred of birds. Thanks. Congrats on your new phone. New blue phone!!

Lmao, someone is bitter today. This is an Apple forum. We’re all excited about a product that just came out. “Sorry” that I single screenshot on a related post pissed you off. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Pointless. I always modify the config to get the fastest delivery device so this pre pre order actually will slow me down. I need to quickly change color and memory combo to get the fasted one. Those of you choosing blue (new color) should know that new color usually takes weeks longer to deliver. In fact, with chip shortage and so many diff models, I am not surprised to see shipping times vary more than a month between models!

Almost here!

Can anyone help me out - Like others here I have apparently not made enough payments on the IUP to qualify for the upgrade benefit, due to the late release of the 12.

I understand that this missing payment can be added at checkout, but how do I actually choose to stay in the IUP when doing this pre-pre-order? My only options are pay in full, or the 24 month instalments (which is not the IUP as far as I know?). Do I choose to trade in my current device?

I’m in the UK, if that helps!

Edit: Actually looks like this whole “get ready” thing doesn’t apply to IUP in the UK, as it has to be done in store. Maybe I just pre-order normally on Friday.

Pre-Pre-Ordered 1 x 256gb Pro Sierra Blue and 1 x 256gb Pro Gold with Barclays financing in 10 minutes total. Got 300£ cashback for my 12 mini 64gb and 200£ cashback for my wife's XS 256gb. 31.20£ / month for the Sierra Blue and 35.37£ / month for the Gold.

is the pre approval US only? I’m from the U.K. and getting this? Or is this due to us being on lockdown last year and getting the phones late? I specifically remember the store person telling me that i will still be able to preorder like normal this year

Just did this. There was no option for store pickup. Do you do this at the time of order? Thanks

The base iPhone 13 is £20 cheaper than the iPhone 12 was last year, and the iPhone 13 Pro is £50 cheaper than the 12 Pro from last year. Bloody Brexit making my iPhone cheaper. Remoaners 🤫

On IUP however I modified my att plan 5 months ago; it’s no longer supports at Apple.com . Call citizens one Loan paid off everything. Gonna to trade in my iPhone 12 pro max 256gb for $790 . They never ask what capacity you are trade in lol . Next year if I trade in iPhone 13 pro max 512 gb for $790 again ? Damn

You could easily sell it for more.

I guess I don't get this "pre-pre-order" thing.

Is it because you feel the color you want will sell out on launch day? For me, anyway, the pro series colors seem to be rather "meh". And I am disappointed no darker purple silicone case is available for the pro max as well. (I have the amethyst one on my current iPhone and wish they offered it on the 13).

None of the colors really grab me like the blue did last year. Think I will just wait and see which color combo of case/phone i will select this time around.
