I was going to go through the process, but I was planning to do the Verizon Device Payments and Trade in my 11 Pro Max for the $700 off (that's a dang good deal in my opinion), but I keep seeing that it says to come back on the 17 for that option. Is this the thing? The article makes it seem like it should have been for all carriers and payment options.

I guess I don't get this "pre-pre-order" thing.

Is it because you feel the color you want will sell out on launch day? For me, anyway, the pro series colors seem to be rather "meh". And I am disappointed no darker purple silicone case is available for the pro max as well. (I have the amethyst one on my current iPhone and wish they offered it on the 13).

None of the colors really grab me like the blue did last year. Think I will just wait and see which color combo of case/phone i will select this time around.

They may or may not run out. Nobody knows. But if you want it on launch day it’s best to preorder.

It says us Verizon customers can’t do it until the 17th. Just set everything the way you want it and save it as your favorite. Very easy to order on Friday. I did it last year in less than two minutes that way.
I’m a Verizon customer and was successful at completing the pre-order setup.
I chose buying as new because I’ll switch the SIM card from my 12 to the 13.

Ah, okay. I was talking about doing the Verizon Device Payments specifically because of the extra $200 towards the phone to get a total of $700 off the the 13 Pro Max. I guess Device Payments through Verizon is only available on Friday. Doesn't matter too much to me because I am up and working at 8 AM EST when they go live. I was just hoping to get it done now so I don't have to worry too much.

I can confirm this. If you're wanting to use Verizon Device Payments then you can't use Apple's pre-preorder. I think it's their way of getting you to switch to Apple's payment program. I'm not going to switch, so I guess I'll have to wait until 9/17 as well.

Could not pre - preorder using veteran status. Page just flashed and redirected, attempted to contact support but was notified support was currently overwhelmed and to try again later ( tried three hours later, still too busy ).
Did you ever figure this out? I am hoping I can at least pre-order "live"... it's a substantial savings.

Well this was about the last reason for me to use IUP. Now that its gone I am rethinking continued use of the plan. Military page gives a significant discount you can’t use with IUP, may be time to skip this cycle and pay off phone and switch to military page

It’s genius actually.
1. Servers won’t get bogged down because less user time for actual pre-orders.
2. This allows customers to select the device they want without fighting others for bandwidth at 5am PST.
3. Most importantly, it gives Apple an idea which models are gonna be in higher demand and can adjust manufacturing prior to the “pre-order” date. This should help alleviate the sold out of certain models within 10 minutes of pre-orders. If the Blue models are being reserved like hot cakes, Apple can adjust manufacturing now to account for that (as opposed to determining that information on the pre-order date).

Yes, I’m also facing this. I have to pay off my remaining balance of $57 in order to pre-order. Since the iPhone launch was in October last year, this seems unfair on the surface. Like you, I’m curious as to whether they’ve already accounted for this and we can pre-order anyway, or if we have to wait to avoid having a balance.
I had same message but when pre approval came live yesterday it let me be pre approved for new phone, my carrier approval, and my new loan approved for Citizens on my credit card on file with apple. I am all set for the final button Friday to submit my order for new phone, and the trade in is also set of my old phone like always. So you should be able to order, they may end up with you still paying the early October 12th payment

I too wish they’d just give a bonus to us that are extra loyal, but our agreement is to pay for 12 months worth before trading in - which is why you’d be “paying twice”
Being in the same boat, I chatted with apple tonight about how that final payment works - if I have to do it with citizen one before hand or if I can just pay when I preorder. Here was the response

Yes that is what has always happend but the language was unclear my apple rep did not tell me that but claimed I would have to pay first. Obviously wrong as I am now pre approved and ready to go. I should have known but now I do in case this happens again.

Typically after I do the pre selection I see the order when I open the Apple Store app so on pre order morning it’s right there for me to click. I got the email confirming but I do not see the banner at the top that normally says all set for pre order which is where I’d click on ore order day
It shows automatically on my iPad apple store app— see below:

On my iphone I have to hit the for you button at bottom of app ane then I get the same info I see here on ipad

Do you guys think delivery or store pick up will be the best bet on getting the phone on Friday?

Depends on how close to the store you are and how likely you are to be home when it's delivered. Apple requires a signature when the phone is delivered - almost messed me up last year, but I was able to track down the UPS truck and get it instead of having to wait longer. If you have a store nearby, in theory you should be able to set up a time to pick it up on Friday without having to make sure you catch your delivery driver. YMMV

Tried doing the pre-pre order but when I click on AT&T Installments as the payment plan it grays out the "Get Ready For Pre-Order" button which is odd. I guess I can't do this if I'm doing AT&T Installments.

I have opted for delivery every year and it always shows up on Friday. If you do not want to have to drive to the mall, park and go in and get it, Let UPS deliver it.

Admittedly, the year it worked best for me was when I had them deliver it to my office; there's always someone at the front desk, so they could be signed for and I didn't have to stress about meeting the driver at the door.

In reality - both options, unless you're slow ordering on Friday, should equal the phone that day, whether it's delivery or in store. There's always the very slight chance you could be the random one they delivery it to a day early by mistake (there are always a few of those) but it's rare.

Thanks for posting this. It gives me hope, but I'll believe it when I see it ;)
