I think the trend for the PC market could continue to go down. Intel sales are flat, and they are putting there eggs in the Ultrabook basket. I think for the majority of PC users, tablets will fill their requirements. It will be interesting to see when this figure starts to include tablets. Also with Windows 8 supporting ARM and Intel/AMD, it makes the case for things to look worse for Intel/AMD and PCs. I think Ultrabooks will be the future "PRO" PC (meaning they will be as powerfull as latest desktop options). Hopefully Intel and AMD can stick around long enough to be there when that happens. My biggest worry with Intel (and AMD) is they are still not being used in the smartphone or tablet markets. At this point, Intel and AMD should feel that they are being forced to make a competitive product to compete in the smartphone/tablet market, or they are going to have to come out with a new desktop class CPU that is multiple leap years ahead of current technology to justify customers willing to stick with big clunky PCs. If Intel or AMD is uncapable of doing this they will either disappear or become fabricators for Apple and other ARM design shops.

I found this in the FAQ for that site:

"Note:
These sample reports are intended to demonstrate the format and capability of Net Market Share reports. The data within these sample reports is either out of date or fabricated."

Busted! :p

Yes - it's out of date, those are the December 2011 statistics as it says in the banner.

If you pay for their service, you can see today's statistics.

And if you actually read the FAQ, it appears obvious that the disclaimer refers to the sample reports that show up further down in the FAQ - not to the reports like the one I linked. :p

It went backward Q-over-Q

As it has done every year for the last five years due to seasonal sales. I know you are desperate to find something negative to say about Apple, but you need to try harder.

BTW. I checked that Acer, #4 in world wide unit sales with 9.8 million units, had company revenue of less than $4bn dollars (and they lost money on those sales). Apple, on the other hand, has estimated PC revenue of $6.5bn dollars according to analysts. For HP, world wide leader in PC unit sales, I found estimates of $8.5bn dollars for their PC business in Q2 2011. I would say that Apple is doing just fine.

Sorry to be that guy, but the unibody MBP wasn't announced at Macworld 2009, but at the 2008 "Spotlight on Notebooks" Apple event.

Funny that it took 3 years and a half for the copycats to be in full effect. Now a new MBP design is just around the corner.

Like Apple used to say, "Start your photocopiers".

Don't apologize. Thanks for the correction.

You are absolutely right. That's even worse!

Well, you certainly put Dell in his place!:D

Only guessing, but my bet is that his salary, etc. is large enough that he can still afford to laugh.

I guess your feces begin to smell better the more money you make.

Just because it has a black border around the screen and black keys doesn't make it an exact copy...

Edit: Wow at all the people who disliked this post and think Apple was the first with that design...

Honestly, because they try to make it as close as possible with out getting slammed with some lawsuit.

I will say this again and again, every company copies ideas from one another. Humans do it do other humans and it's pretty clear that's the way things have been and the way things are.

Apple has stolen ideas (Android notifications for one) and I do acknowledge that. But I don't believe they do it as much or as direct (physical designs) as companies are doing it to Apple today.

Companies usually try to mimic Apple's design (both software and hardware) but often just usually make a worse product. When apple does steal an idea (usually never design) they tend to polish and perfect the idea that the original company "never" could have done.

Is Apple the only company that innovates or comes up with original ideas that consumers like? Of course not! However, there is trend gaining momentum that seems to be the moto, "let Apple do most of the innovation and we'll pick off that."

Begin the downranking or bashing of this fanboy, which I'm not, but it is so blaten these days, I can't believe people try to even deny it.

The HP Envy is a pretty blatant rip off of the MBP. Except for those things that make it worse like all the beats audio branding. Others can copy all they want but they never achieve the beautiful fit and finish you find in Apple products.

seeing how Dell grew 7.8% Worldwide... Michael Dell probably laughing at your limited view of things

Seeing as how Apple could take some change out of their pocket and buy every last share of Dell computers and not have to change a single thing in their operations to afford it, I'm guessing the execs at Apple are laughing a lot easier.

Didn't HP cancel some of there Envy line? Or was that Dell with their Adamo line?

I don't recall hearing that HP had cancelled any of the Envy line. All I heard was Dell canceling Adamo. feel free to correct me if I'm wrong through.

No, actually HP announced a new Envy laptop at CES. Dell did though.

Well, besides HP and Dell any other PC brand is junk.
Toshiba is good for notebooks, but not desktops.
Apple gets third place basically by default, following Toshiba very close.
Lenovo doesn't even appear.

Acer and Dell are WAY better than HP. I have owned/used many HP PCs, all of them were horrible compared to the Dells and Acers. The HPs come loaded with garbage and retarded hardware such as the SmartDrive port for their portable hard drives (it's just a USB port ).

If I were going to get a Windows PC, I'd get Dell. They understand that you want a simple PC and don't put 9000 stickers on their laptops.

LOL, there are HP PCs for business and there are HP PCs for Home use. The Business PCs don't come loaded with the extra crap. Most users love stickers and junkie app freebies.

Regarding Acer, I always wanted to like it, but always seemed flimsy cheap plastic. I almost bought the Ferrari model long time ago, but the reviews were bad due to cheap manufacturing.

Forrester (once a MSFT outsourced PR outlet) sees Apple grabbing over 1/4 of enterprise PC revenue in 2013

What are you... blind? I just saw the HP Envy at their site and it looks like a replica of the MacBook Pro. Shape, Body, keyboard, touchpad, etc. It's a copy-cat version of the MacBook Pro.

Get real, it's a shameful copy, just like all the other MacBook Air copies coming up. Compare this "new look" of the HP Envy with all their previous models. Compare it to all other vendors' models. All completely different to the Envy.

That's because it's a copy. Doesn't take much brain to recognize that. Sorry to disappoint you, but it's a total rip-off.

I'm sure Apple will sue the heck out of them, and they have all rights to do so.

Asus. They make some of the most solid computers on the market.

..though they can't make a touchpad for crap.

I always loved their system boards, always the best design and quality. Total pieces of art. I actually owned several of these.

Too bad they couldn't resist the temptation to clone the MacBook Air.
That made them loose most of my respect for them.
Just wait a while for them to reverse-engineer the Apple TouchPad. Then they will make a nice copy of it.

Now that's a very nasty attitude - HOPING for lawsuits.

Macbook Pro isn't black behind the screen. HP Envy is.

Also, take a look at this laptop from 2007, before the Macbook pro had that design:

This is a Macbook Pro:

I'd say it looks similar except with the black on the sides.

Apple wasn't the first with that design. So, Apple "copied" it.
