No Bumper or Band-aid is going to fix this issue. Go into a low coverage area like I did this weekend and the phone will be rendered useless.
This weekend I went out to a friend's cabin like I do many times a year. All of us know we do not get reception at the cabin but we know when we get into town as well as at the lake we fish we can get reception to make phone calls. In town we are extra lucky because we actually have usable edge. Sure it's slower than 3G but it's enough to get by on and check emails and some light browsing.
This weekend I found the iPhone 4 to be useful for 2 things, taking photos and playing games. The only place I received a signal to make phone calls was in town and edge was useless, at the lake, no signal at all. I turned the phone on and off many times, tried changing the network settings, etc. and nothing would help.
Ok, just a bad weekend? Maybe the towers were really busy? How can you use this as a scientific way to determine if the iPhone 4 has issues. It was very easy, the guy next to me, the one laughing while using his 3GS without issues, everything was on par to my previous experience on my 3GS.
If you are looking forward to a free bumper to fix this issue, you've just had the wool pulled over your eyes. A rubber bumper may fix the interference when touching the 2 bands but it will not increase the signal.

FoxConn suicides skyrocket as workers are pressured to make bumpers as fast as possible for greedy American gadget freaks...more on that story at 11.
It's just a phone. My paid-for iPhone and bumper are coming this week. If they rebate me for the bumper or provide another free one, great. If not, it's just a phone.
How many threads do we have now about Apple's action regarding this problem? Let me see if I can recall all of them:
1. CONFIRMED: $200 gift cards
2. CONFIRMED: Recall of affected units
3. CONFIRMED: $175 gift card + bumper
4. CONFIRMED: Gift Cards + Free Bumper
5. CONFIRMED: Free Bumper
6. CONFIRMED: Free back massages to all buyers

That's not how it works. It might cost Apple 3-4 dollars to make, but the true cost to Apple IS $29 per bumper given out. Anyone here who has taken business classes will confirm this. This quite an expensive solution, and given such, I don't expect this to happen. I suppose we will revisit this tomorrow.
I'm sick of hearing about those folks checking out and it being our fault. It is a huge huge company. It is to be expected.
Why are you all giving OP such a hard time? A facetime rep told me the same thing! I knew you wouldn't believe me without pics so here is one of our actual chat session:
Steve? Is that you?
I have to disagree with you. Imagine if Americans started to actually make things and work in factories again and the demand was overwhelming. I suspect there would be an increase in suicides with those workers.
And they didn't check out. They walked off buildings.
Because this isn't a Politics forum, I'd like to clarify my point. Our seemingly important issues with the iPhone 4 and bumper are in fact insignificant in comparison to the trouble it will cause those who physically produce these products in the factories.
Are you a doctor? Because I am. In fact, i'm a Psychiatrist, and you've made some conclusions without any real proof or data, just assumptions. Show me some real proof that the FoxCon workers have a higher suicide rate than the general population, and that those rates increase during high production seasons, and then it will make sense.
Don't just shoot your mouth off about things you've learned from the news, it makes you look like an idiot.
This is just an assumption but when/if they do give out the bumpers free it will probably be similar to the process when Nintendo gave out the free wrist straps for the remotes..
There is a page you go to and to verify you have the unit you enter in it's serial number then put in your info and they ship it to you - this would verify everyone got one, and that they got the amount specified per unit.. again.. an assumption based on nothing other than theory and past experience
