Ok, so i just got off the phone...30 minute phone call mind you. The rep and the "supervisor'' stated that they are not at liberty to give statements. Basically they can be fired if they release a public statement without the proper authority. The rep said he finds things out as soon as we do...sometimes after we do. In conclusion...no free bumper for me, no gift card...no back massage...no free headphones...nada!

FINALLY a post regarding a support call that I can believe 100%.

How is Apple going to ship free bumpers to everyone if that can't even supply enough of them without offering them for free? If this does happen, don't expect your bumper any time soon. I'm already using a Griffin Reveal Slimfit case which has the rubberized material around the frame as well as a plastic backing to protect the back of the phone. It's actually pretty decent.

I thought so too - until I tried the flash. Not sure I like the idea of having to sharpie the edges to make it functional. (see accessories thread)

I am in Chicago, anyone else get the same thing as me?

That's seals the deal. Good ole Stevie will be 'invited' to the Oval Office where BHO will make him a Chicago-style offer he can't refuse and, poof, a $1 billion escrow fund will be established.

It is really hard to believe that Apple is going to be giving away millions of bumpers that retail for $29 for free.

If they do, doesn't that mean they've admitted guilt on the reception issue? I'd highly doubt they take that route, but who knows...

It may not be a public statement, but Apple has admitted to me on every occasion I've talked to them that there is a problem, that engineers are working day and night to fix it, and there will be more information available in a day or two.

also i heard from another thread that we will also be getting apple gift cards like 175$ or something like that:

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/952395/

see i dont know if what I was told is true, but i can tell you guys they did tell me that. and that just sounds ridiculous, i mean the free cases i can get cuz they cost like 10 cents to make, but 175 dollar gift card? thats just pure bull. normally i dont make threads on the forum, but thought i would post this happening. but the way this thread is taking what i said, no one is taking me seriously. he said that they will be releasing the statement tomorrow, they were supposed to today, but due to legal complications it has been held of until tomorrow. believe me or don't, i swear i am saying the truth as to what I was told. i wasnt put straight with a supervisor as well, i talked to an apple rep and he then escalated me to the supervisor.

Omg I just ordered one a couple days ago, I'm gonna try to cancel the order, hope it works if not than I'll just get a second one and sell it :D

i believe him yo, i don't know why...but i believe him yo!

What if we don't want to have to use an ugly case on our iPhone to make it work properly? If this is what they announce, it's a total f$#!ing joke.

If Apple has made a decision to give out free bumpers, don't you think they would have taken down the order page for the bumpers on the Apple store? I mean it wouldn't make sense to let customers order the bumpers right now if they were going to make an announcement giving them away, would it?

They can't always assume that everyone buying the bumper has an iPhone 4 or will ever have one. Sounds dumb, but its business.

just bought a bumper -.- would be insanely pissed if this was true. Isn't like apple to give away a £25 product to over a million customers....

I am in need of a bumper right now. I think though minimal, it does provide protection from drops by not allowing the glass to take a blow on the corners.

I was going to order a bumper tonight, but should I wait for a few days to see how this whole thing shakes out? I was considering the white one, but the wait time on that one is *already* listed as July 16th.

Maybe I should just go ahead and order the black one and be done with it.

FoxConn suicides skyrocket as workers are pressured to make bumpers as fast as possible for greedy American gadget freaks...more on that story at 11.

It's just a phone. My paid-for iPhone and bumper are coming this week. If they rebate me for the bumper or provide another free one, great. If not, it's just a phone.

How many threads do we have now about Apple's action regarding this problem? Let me see if I can recall all of them:

1. CONFIRMED: $200 gift cards
2. CONFIRMED: Recall of affected units
3. CONFIRMED: $175 gift card + bumper
4. CONFIRMED: Gift Cards + Free Bumper
5. CONFIRMED: Free Bumper
6. CONFIRMED: Free back massages to all buyers

According to what a friend who doesn't work for apple told me, the iPhone has the ability to activate more towers to get stronger signal, however if you short circuit the antennas, the software becomes confused. Its a software fix, might be announced tomorrow. Something this big, such has a hardware issue, i doubt would have made it past apple testing.

Steve Jobs copter just landed on my back yard and he asked to see my I4 phone. I handed it to him and he took a piece of scotch tape and put it over the affected area, and zoomed off to the guy down the street also with an I4...said he'd be up all night doing this....
