This will be awesome, especially since Apple Maps shows up in BMW HUD. I wonder how long it will take until it comes close to the number of people reporting on Waze though? I can’t imagine it would be quick. Even google maps does not close to the amount of people reporting as on Waze.

In CarPlay is there a way to turn Siri off for turn by turn announcements and just have audio for these alerts? That’s the feature I like in Waze for my daily commute.

I wonder what took them so long. Real Time Crowdsourced data is what really expands the functionality of navigation software. Otherwise, phone apps don't add much over the Garmin GPS i purchased at BestBuy 15 years ago.

The most important crowdsourced info (traffic data) has been there since Maps was introduced. Even Google only added crowdsourced info barely a year ago and that data was taken from Waze until they added the feature directly on the app, right?

It's what really separated Waze from the rest...especially the actual map/road info...but not so much anymore.

Cool but from what I’m reading this works when you have a route set. Will be nice if it just shows the accidents and such similar to waze when using the map but not having a route set
I agree. I wish Apple Maps had a driving mode like Google Maps does on Android.

Police reports are the sole reason I continue to use Waze as my primary navigation app. Otherwise, I find it pretty terrible. Assuming this actually gets community support (reports), this will finally allow me to switch to Apple Maps! Very excited.

... hopefully they warn you more than 1/4 mile away, or base the warning distance on the speed your traveling. With people sometimes reporting a little late and 1/4 not being very far when you're moving along, I'd had some high G force braking events because of late waze warnings over the years...

I still won't trust the speed trap indicator in the updated Maps app. It's not like it'll be 100% accurate, so a "speeding ticket" (even though the govt purposely makes the speed limit too low to make a profit) will still be a risk. Convince me otherwise.
Too low to make a profit...lol. Ok.

As long as it has speed traps, and can report police hiding, on another side of the road, etc then I'd be interested.

I'm pretty sure Waze has been and still is 1/2 mile notice for reports. Unless you are driving 100 mph, that should be long enough. hah.

No, the idea is to raise money from speeding tickets. Today's speed limits were made for cars in the 90's... You know, ones that don't have 10 speeds, 20" tires, computerized technology combined with the parts, and don't average 150-300 horsepower for a daily driver.
I didn’t realize some humans have since evolved faster sensory input!

Police typically sit in high risk or accident prone areas so if people slow down in those areas there should be less accidents. Going 10+ over in a straight away while still illegal is fairly safe if the driver properly maintained their car and has good tires.
I hope “at least I had good tires” helps you sleep at night when mowing over a kid.

Thank God! I am in the midst of moving away from ALL things Google and this is incredibly welcome. Well done Apple, well done!

I never thought Apple would ever grow a pair and do this. Thank you Apple :). The Waze UI is a steamy pile, I was never a fan.

The ads bothered me and I really didn't like that you had to remember to put it to sleep when you arrived otherwise it would keep using your location. I've never been a fan of Waze.

I’m in the UK and used Apple Maps from day 1 and never had a problem. It even showed me shortcuts I had no idea existed.

I really don’t get your problem.

Apple Maps really did me wrong a few years ago. I was driving on an Interstate and it had me get off because there was a huge slowdown ahead. It had me drive a few miles on a road in the middle of nowhere. Then it had me turn around and took me back to the same exit to get me back on the interstate. I switched to Google Maps and at the next exit it routed me around the holdout. That was several years ago and it has undoubtedly improved.

I disagree. The speed limits were put there as a safe-average for most drivers, taking into account their average reaction, breaking distances, road complexity, etc. Obviously there are exceptions on both sides of this average spectrum, but they are few. For good passionate drivers really enjoying the speed & thrill of it, there are protected racing tracks. For other people out there, going from points A to B, with their children, elder relatives, pets and what not, speed-limits are very useful and, at times, life-saving. I love driving and almost always go at the highest allowed speed, yet still appreciate the limits.

Google may just introduce the same functionality in their Maps and kill off Waze afterwards. At this point it will then be pretty much two main mapping platforms - Apple Maps & Google Maps.

So this means the only thing I'd like copied from Waze is the audio output selection... I like being able to make it come out of the device if I have the radio on, or if I'm listening to music from my device selecting the audio output for the connector. I hate the bluetooth response time for the notices - you miss half the message.

I think he's right about the quarter mile. Ever since google acquired waze... and i still dont i understand how google captured the open source, crowd sourced program... it has been FAR less useful. Alert distance is VERY short, and it no longer alerts to traps on the opposite side of the road, which is just as important to know.

I suspect the decisions were made purposefully, to decrease the usefullness of the app.

Lol, traffic speed (not the speed limit-- the speed people actually drive) where I live is 90-95 on the highways. I'm often significantly over 100 if it's a low traffic time of day.

Whatever it currently is, the current distance has resulted in a couple full brake force events, which really creates a dangerous situation.

If you drive near 100mph. You are incredibly irresponsible. The dangerous braking is caused by you. No one else. One can hope you never hurt someone. Or maybe some time in prison would help you understand that.

I have found that Apple Maps keeps getting better and better, but still used Waze because of the crowdsourcing feature. This will definitely kill Waze! Kind of sad.....

.... there's places in Texas where the posted speed is 85. 95 would be a relatively normal speed that one should be expected to drive as the normal speed on those roads. 100 would be passing speed.
