Actually the 8 was released before the 10, so technically the lastest in the line is the 10. They couldn't release this year a 9 because what'd happen the year after if there's already a 10? They only way they can get away releasing a 9 would be by making it a phone with the 6 design as "special edition", the lastest iPhone with the 6 design. They cannot release a next generation iPhone (with the X design) in a versión less than 10.

I get the roman X is somehow symbolic but it still represents the number 10.

Noted on the 6 design. However I really do think Apple cornered themselves into sort of a naming crisis. I personally think the 6.1” with the new X design will just be “iPhone”, and that numbers are officially over.

I just don't see Apple bringing out a dual SIM iPhone.

I would actually think they were more likely to bring out an eSIM-only iPhone rather than an iPhone with 1 extra SIM slot than currently available. It seems more or a Samsung thing to do bringing out dual physical SIM that not many people would ever need (note that i said 'not many').

Apple tend to remove things that can be removed if possible, rather than adding in extra things 'not many' people would use.

Maybe this 2nd slot is actually for something else?.... Removable storage for cheapest iPhone? It would cut manufacturing costs!

Because US service providers mandate it? Just a guess but no proprietary SIM card makes it easier for customers to switch to another provider.

Actually the US service providers don't mandate SIM, they just create obstacles for things like AppleWatch eSIM.
There is no valid reasoning behind not supporting eSIM. I can see Apple introducing a SIM + eSIM model. I doubt a dual SIM model.

Now the current iPhone X was ignored by at least three of my family that held onto their iPhone 7 plus or bought the 8 plus due to the size of the phone. Not screen size, but a combination of screen and phones size. They didn't like the smaller phone.

Remember Apple was late to the large screen party. While they dominate it now, Apple got to the party at least 1-2 years after Android manufacturers. I use Android because I wanted a bigger screen. Now I have apps on Android that I don't want to re-purchase to switch.

A cheaper X might get me to switch. I can't see $1500 for a phone.
An X with 256GB of storage + tax + AppleCare puts it in that range for me.
It's not that I can't afford it. I just won't do it.

I have an Essential PH-1 (bought on a deal for $250 or so) and when it's time to buy a new phone it will be Essential PH-? vs iPhone ? (Whatever doesn't have bezels). I won't pay more than $700 with 128GB of storage.

In China, many people use dual-SIM. What China wants, China gets. Besides, DSDS could mean eSIM + Physical SIM.

Apple May Offer Two 6.1-Inch iPhone Models in 2018 With Price Tag as Low as $550
Apple may also introduce a personal assistant robot that changes your oil, and puts away the dishes, and fixes your hot water heater, and lets the dog out while you're away, and does your homework and wears a leopard skin pillbox hat, and teaches you to fly fish properly and arm-wrestles your friends on the weekends.

But they probably won't.
They'll probably just keep selling us little rectangular computers that do what they do now. And we'll be amazed at what a brilliant futuristic world we now live in because we can say we like things on facebook.

Anyone else curious of the origin story of this mysterious Ming-Chi Kuo?

I assume that he ate a radioactive apple, which logically bestowed him with the superpower of accurately predicting anything related to apples, because that's how these sort of things work.

I think Cook is on to something here, more models more money. Each model with a different subset of features so that everyone is confused. That works too. People will have to buy 2 iPhones to get all of the features they want, just like the car commercials. Simply Amazing!

I'd personally buy the TFT-LCD over the OLED after staring at all of the ugly burnt in objects on my Samsung OLED display. I'll never buy a phone with an OLED display again.

For anyone curious, I have Google maps icons burnt in on my screen. Many long trips with using my phone as a GPS.

I spend a lot of my time in various Asian nations and have lost track of the number of people I know who don't buy iPhones solely because there is no dual sim option.

The market for phone contract deals there is very aggressive with many companies offering absurdly cheap deals with lots of data for set periods of a few months to try to get you in to their network.

So it's quite common to have your "normal" sim on a regular tariff and use the second one for special deals.

Another common thing is to have the second one be a sim that gives a good deal for data or for calls abroad - as more and more people from nations such as India and China settle in the west they have family who remain in the homeland who wish to call them. It's common for people there even with plenty of money to not have a laptop but everything goes through the smartphone so they use a second sim for that.

Apple would see an instant jump in sales in India simply by adding a second sim. And given the sheer number of people in India as well as various other asian nations, an increase of 5%in sales would result in hundreds of millions of dollars.

It's a strange thing really, somehow it kind of goes against some of the traditional iPhone idea of simplicity. I always associate dual sim phones with ones with micro sd slots and user replaceable batteries. These can be good things but I eventually bought in to the iPhone idea - i now have two iPhones and just learnt to accept it. But I suspect sooner or later Apple will change to dual sim to chase sales in Asia.

I figured the LCD (cheaper) model would be smaller than the OLED 6.5", I won't even guess how much that will cost.
As of right now - IF I UPGRADED - a 6.1" would be fine. Dual Sim..no, I don't need this. I will also guess if you want ALL the bells and whistles, you must drop the $$$$ on the super expensive flagship - I can see Apple not giving the LCD users some features.

Honestly I don't even want to think about Sept. at this point, the keynote, personally that just means miserable colder weather is on its way and Spring really hasn't even arrived here in Philly yet!

Apple: I am not going to buy any of your iPhone until you release reasonably high performance MBP. You are not a phone company!

Has a new iPhone ever been priced at $550 or lower? Maybe the 5c or SE?

I would jump onboard a large screen with the lastest specs for $550, but that just ain’t gonna happen.

Definitely going for the X Plus or whatever they end up calling it. I bought the iPhone X but its screen is a lot narrower than the 7 Plus I was using. Its taken away a lot of functionality I loved from the 7 Plus, like being able to see the tabs in landscape view in Safari and and being able to see your emails and the current selected message at the same time in mail.

If they fit that 6.5" OLED into a body smaller than the current Plus models it will be the perfect phone size. My hands are fairly large so I never had any issues with the size of the Plus iPhones, I could just about use them one handed.

im more interested for this years keynote than i was for last years because last year was predictable, if even the 8 was a surprise. this years is a bit of a wildcard.

but i miss the days of one flagship phone and a simple lineup.

i just cant do a plus, so that means i havent had a flagship phone since my iphone 5 back in 2012...just because of a size preference.

They need to unify their lines - too many devices. Just follow what the other product lines have done. iPhone $699/iPhone Plus $799/iPhone Pro $849/iPhone Pro Plus $999

I think the 5.8" is the sweet spot. The thing has to fit in my pocket and my budget.

A good percentage of Apple's customers think the 5.8" is too big, too heavy, and does not fit comfortably in their pockets or hands.

All of these large phones are rubbish compared to the perfection that is the iPhone SE.

True for perhaps millions of potential customers (2% of sales). Will Apple introduce an updated product for them?
