Completely agree. Im not sure what I even want from a Gen 3 Apple Watch.

- Accuracy improvements on the sensors (mainly talking about HR, but I'm sure motion, GPS, etc can always have evolutionary improvements).
- Improvements to the processor (speed, but more importantly efficiency).
- Cellular data to allow further independence from iPhone
- Improved screen technology (enabling always on display, etc)

Also, I'm sure there will be lots of things I would never have even thought of (such as changes to the materials/construction)

It doesn't have to be huge, revolutionary changes.

I have zero interest in cellular data on the Apple Watch. No way I am paying $10 a month for a device that is incapable of even browsing a web page. The only thing I want is the ability to connect to a WiFi network without an iPhone with you. Also have zero interest in an always on screen, waste of battery.

The other things you mention are given because all updated hardware gets a faster processor and similar improvements.

This just happened to me. Downloaded the WatchOS 4 Beta onto my Space Grey 42mm Apple Watch Sport and I wanted to downgrade. I'm out of warranty and didn't buy AppleCare but Apple said to mail it in and they would downgrade it for me at no charge. They mailed me back a new Series 1 instead. Nice upgrade. It's noticeably faster.

Wow, I'm shocked they did away with the OOW fee for downgrades.

I bought a Series 1 and find the hardware is slow.
I wouldn't imagine myself with a Sport Watch.
First generations always seem to be like that - I remember what I thought about my iPhone 3GS when it had iOS 6 on it.

This is not good for SS owners which paid a lot more for the watch. My series 0 SS suffered from the detaching back cover problem and was replaced with another SS by Apple but the replacement's back cover detached in just a week. I understand that there is no SS version for the series 1 but it doesn't hurt if Apple gives us a series 2 since the problem was due to their problematic adhesive used in the series 0. I guess replacing it with the same defective model is not going to end their repairing.

Got my first gen aluminum replaced with a Series 1 today! (After it was gone for a week.)

The Apple Watch syncs with your iPhone's list of wifi network passwords and will auto-connect to any wireless network that your iPhone has connected to in the past. Put your iPhone in Airplane Mode and wait for a push notification to arrive on your Apple Watch to test this.

Yes. I'm fully aware. I've had my watch for over 2 years. That's not what I'm talking about. I want a wifi menu on the watch so I don't need my iPhone to connect to a new network. So if I forget my phone at home, I can still connect to a new wifi network.

A little unrelated, but I feel like there haven't been any Apple Watch Series 3 rumors in a long time. Are those still coming this autumn or is Apple really on an 18 month cycle?
I’m wondering as well. My first generation battery isn’t lasting nearly as long as it used to and every once and awhile it’s dead after like 5 hours.

Considered picking up a series 2 but don’t want to buy if a new one is around the corner. Will do my best to hold out the next two months.

One of my coworkers cracked the display on their Series 0 and also got a Series 1 back in exchange. Seems like pretty similar situation to the r2012 MacBook Pro replacements that they've been doing.

I have an S3 Frontier with the unlimited data plan. When I bought it realized that the ability to leave my phone in my office, or at home when I went for lunch or a run would be perfect for me. It's a lot like MLB.tv. I love baseball, but I never actually find myself watching it. I still take my phone when I go out. I use under 1 MB of data a month and that is mostly because when my phone battery dies my watch recieves another copy of all my text messages. I thought the S3 would keep me satisfied until the Apple Watch got cellular, but all it did was convince me that I don't need cellular at all.

Thanks for your story. That further strengthens my feeling that it's just not worth the money. Especially cause a cellular model will probably be an extra $129 like iPads. Plus the monthly fee.

So we can see what matters most to Apple - it is not how much you paid for the product (i.e. SS version / the Gold edition) but the quantity sold (the Sport watch). If you purchased a gen. 1 Sport Watch, you paid less and you got excellent after sales support - free* replacement (upgrade) to a current generation watch after 2 years!

* free if you suffer from the back cover popping up issue or if you're covered by AppleCare+.

My launch day Series 0 popped its face beginning of this year due to a swollen battery. This was before the service repair for the battery/display issue.

How am I to know if the replacement is a Series 0 or Series 1? If I check on the Apple Support site, it refers to my new watch as a "Gen 1" ... I assume Series 1 is Gen 2, but can anybody confirm this?

Also, anybody who has had their watch replaced under the battery/display campaign, did Apple provide a year warranty on the replacement, or is your warranty equal the the remainder on your replaced defective watch? (In my case, my replacement came in, say, Feb, my original warranty expired in June, and the site says my replacement's warranty is run out.)

So, did anybody with a campaign replacement get a full warranty on the replacement? (I'm wondering if nobody gets an extension, or if I didn't because I had a "goodwill" replacement a couple months prior to the official campaign.)

Warranty on replacements is 90 days from replacement or the remainder of the original warranty, whatever is longer.

One problem I see with a new watch released in the fall is logistics.

With the iPhone 8 launch at around the same time, Apple will have enough supply issues to worry about. As good as Apple is with rollouts, I can see them just holding off till the spring.
But then again, how can they miss out on the holiday sales touting a brand new Apple watch.

Wow.... That's an interesting idea... I'm not sure if it'd be worth it to download the beta on both my iPhone and Watch at the chance I might get a series 1 which is only marginally better.
