Warranty on replacements is 90 days from replacement or the remainder of the original warranty, whatever is longer.

One point to note for those sans AppleCare is that if Apple replaced a s0 with a s0, then it should - for the purposes of the two "part popping out" programs - assume that extra 2 year warranty from the original date of purchase for those defects. There are no such programs for the series 1, so the warranty will end at 90 days.

Upgrading as many people as possible to series 1s probably absolves them of a lot of responsibilities in that interim period. If the back or screen falls off my SS in the next 12 months I'm covered and will get it repaired for free. If the same happens to my wife's replacement series 1 after the next two months she's SOL despite us buying our original watches at the same time.

I followed the Series 2 rumors fairly close. Most of these rumors were nothing more than future launch predictions from analysts that had no idea what they were talking about or were wrong.

The only real notable rumors was Apple perhaps was using a different Touch display, which was perhaps a cheaper method and LTE. Both of those rumors still apply to the purported 'Series 3' Watch.

The Apple Watch just doesn't have the component leaks like the iPhone or iPad do, even though a Series 1/2 did launch last September. So for those who think if they don't see component leaks with the Apple Watch in the fall, could easily be mistaken based on that reasoning alone.

Are they swapping S0 for S1 in store or do you have to mail it off? Don't really want to be without a watch for a week and end up with a S0...

Apple does carry replacement Watches in store. They will send one to your residence or nearest Apple Store. Apple also does not repair Watches in store, they are shipped to a depot for repair.

n Series 1 Apple Watch models, there's an upgraded dual-core S2 chip, which is similar to the chip in the Series 2 but without GPS capabilities.

Surprised nobody else seems to have noticed this inaccuracy. It's called a S1P chip, which is similar to the S2 chip in the Series 2 but without GPS capabilities.

sent my watch for downgrade os, but my watch have some scratch at the back.
lets see apple will downgrade this old unit or just send me series 1.

Of course is limited to the Sport model since they don't make the stainless steel version of series 1.
It is a nice speed improvement

Any reports from Austria?
My 42mm Series0 watch (almost 1 year of AC+ remaining) was pretty unreliable regarding battery life recently (battery died before going to bed instead of having at least 25% remaining, and interestingly, my wife's 38mm Series0 (same purchase date, but no AC+) had this once or twice, too).

I considered having it replaced under AC+, but as I suspect the odds of getting a S1 back will increase over time, I'll probably hold off until it's unbearable.

Then they should replace it with Series 2 SS.
I'm waiting for my second "series 0" SS replacement and if that fails, it will be the third one in a row to have the back piece falling off. If Apple continues to give me refurbed Gen. 1 as replacement, I guess they will be stuck in a non-stop replacement cycle. I think they will finally give in and 'upgrade' the SS model too.

GPS was leaked pretty clearly, as was the fact that their would be a new Watch in the fall. I have seen neither a relatively confirmed feature nor a strong rumour of there being a new watch this fall this year at all. Yes, there were a lot of vague rumours last year, there always are. But there were also pretty clear ones (where clear means specific and consistent over some period of time and range of sources) that have been missing this year.

Right, but aside from that, as I already mentioned, there were rarely, if ever, any hardware leaks for the Apple Watch, which only lead to speculation from analysts of when it would actually launch. Which I indicated they were wrong on numerous times. Furthermore, just for anybody reading this, analysts are nothing more than mudslingers to see what actually sticks when they make their productions. They have no validity what they're basing their predictions off, only to think when Apple might release a product on a certain date. Predictions and leaks are two separate entities.

May be a stupid question, but how do I tell if the watch I receive back from Apple is an original launch day one or a series 1?
Had to send my launch day watch in due to the back lid popping off and received a message today that I can pick up my replacement watch...

It will say 'Series 1' on the back, as opposed to 'Series 7000 Aluminim' for the Series 0.

I have an S3 Frontier with the unlimited data plan. When I bought it realized that the ability to leave my phone in my office, or at home when I went for lunch or a run would be perfect for me. It's a lot like MLB.tv. I love baseball, but I never actually find myself watching it. I still take my phone when I go out. I use under 1 MB of data a month and that is mostly because when my phone battery dies my watch recieves another copy of all my text messages. I thought the S3 would keep me satisfied until the Apple Watch got cellular, but all it did was convince me that I don't need cellular at all.

This is interesting...so did you find that you weren't replying to/reading messages & does the S3 allow you to receive phone calls on the same number as your mobile? My interest in a data connection on the watch is limited to being contactable in case of an emergency when I'm without my phone; which would be enough to make me want to buy it!

Seems my mic recently stopped working. Time to head to the Apple Store.

Gold watch owners would be upset. That would be a huge downgrade for them.

If you purchased the Watch Edition, they bend over backwards for you. Apple knows it's a huge price to pay for what you're getting and that keeping those people happy is a priority. Don't worry, they're happy to replace them for Watch Edition owners.

No, I don't reply to messages on my s3. I have done it, but I have to think about it and overcome my desire to use my phone. Thinking back on when I've done it, it's almost always when the quick reply is sufficient. In the past two months the only time I created my own message was during a necropsy when I forgot to take it off and I used my nose (to tap) and voice command to tell my lady I'd be late. The dictation was pretty bad, but was close enough.

I do have one number on both my phone and S3, so I guess that is nice. I wouldn't want take a business call on my watch, but I could if I had to. The real issue is that ever since I got it i am rarely without my phone as it alerts you if are getting far away. That said, I do get about there and a half days out of a charge on my S3 on Bluetooth and two days if it's on cellular only.

i was having the same issue. went to the apple store to have a battery diagnosis run before my AC expired. it came back as "acceptable". after a few more weeks of bad battery life (after my AC expired), i decided to wipe the watch clean and "setup as new." i've done plenty of re-pairs over the 2 years ive had my watch but never a complete re-do. gave me the opportunity to remove a ton of apps i never used anymore.

it seems to have made a difference of at least 20%. for reference - sleeping with my watch would go from 100-65 overnight...now, 100-85 or 80. During the day, I would would go into Power Reserve around dinner time...now I'm putting in on the charger before bed with 25% left. So setting up fresh seems to have added 20% battery life across the board.

i also just bit the bullet and just bought a 2nd charging cable to keep in my work bag. now after my mid-day workout, i'll charge it up at my desk.

so i would definitely go get a diagnosis done first, but if its still within spec, try setting up as new.

Definitely will give this a shot, appreciate you passing this info along. If I'm able to get this going soon, I'll report back and let people know what went down.

This from appleinsider this morning “A source inside Apple corporate not authorized to speak on behalf of the company told AppleInsider that people with non-functional original Apple Watches shouldn't expect a swap for a series one watch. Instead, that determination is made on a case-by-case basis dependent on available part supply, and what's on hand for service swap stock.”

Were you not given the option to take it to an apple store for a more immediate swap?

I love the way the original was not waterpoof, yet I have been swimming with my SS since launch
Yup, I've been doing the same with my sport. I'm thinking the only real risk is speaker damage since that was what Apple changed for series 2

I’m wondering as well. My first generation battery isn’t lasting nearly as long as it used to and every once and awhile it’s dead after like 5 hours.

Considered picking up a series 2 but don’t want to buy if a new one is around the corner. Will do my best to hold out the next two months.
You might have battery issues then. I preordered but only after decided a few days after preorders went live, so I've had mine since early June 2015, and the battery is still pretty good. I'll occasionally notice a 10% warning before bed on days when I'm more active and using the exercise app, and that used to not happen, so it's definitely going down since it used to be around 30-40% before bed when new—although I'm also more active than I used to be which probably plays into it, and is also partially thanks to the Watch. Maybe you've become a lot more active since getting it as well? But 5 hours seems pretty crazy to me. Is it starting to bulge on the bottom? Maybe you'll get one of these replacements. Do you have the 38mm? Those have smaller batteries, I think.
