Nano and the Touch will definitely see upgrades; the camera is real, as we all know.

I would think the Classic is done. Goodbye, click wheel!

The latest Shuffle sucks, so we might see a revision there?

Snow leopard is probably coming before the end of the month; whether or not that translates into new hardware specs is anyone's guess. There won't be Core 7's in the machines, as they continue to be too pricey. However, there is a laptop Core2 Quad that is available...surely those prices have come down.

Why allow Blu-Ray support if you're not going to have Blu-Ray drives? It's a no-brainer.

The iTunes social network will probably be revealed.

The Beatles are about the last act to NOT go digital. They need to get with the times and release their catalog. It's no biggie...most people have all the songs they need off of BitTorrent anyway....:)

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A400 Safari/528.16)

I have seen no evidence of Apple developing a so-called tablet, yet MR keeps reporting that one is in the works and implying that it's release is just around the corner. It's kind of like Fox News getting one of its anchors to say "I wonder if [insert outrageous and unfounded statement here]". Next thing you know, fox reporters
are all saying "some are saying...", and the lie gets treated as sound reporting.

Hope this makes sense. I guess I'm just tired of hearing about the rumored apple tablet.

September will feature iPod touch & iTunes 9 updates only.

Apple feels the tablet warrants its own event (rightfully so). And that event will happen in January - marking Steve's next & last keynote.

Between now and January's tablet event, we will see some price drops on hardware - specifically (but not limited to) the iMac line.

But I'm no gambling man...

So it looks like "back to school" ends 1 day before the new ipod touch is announced. Was it that close last year?

Did anyone who ordered on the last day of the promotion last year manage to get the new model?

No. New iPods were released BEFORE the sale was over, however the new models were not eligible for the promotion.

iPod events are probably the least exciting for me now seeing as i haven't owned an iPod since the 5G (not 5.5) iteration.

Think about it - when the tablet ships, Apple wants there to be lots of software already available for it. In order to get developers working on the software in advance, they have to let them know the screen size, some of the key features, and release an SDK.

I don't think creating a 3rd class of SDK for a new device would be all that efficient now. The iPhone SDK has seen lots of developers, but I think adding a third and new SDK with different design requirements (size wise) will put strain considering that the tablet market hasn't really gone anywhere.

The iPhone SDK made sense, since phones are going to have a larger role in the future, and developing for them is worthwhile, but I don't think tablets have really proven themselves in terms of their importance for Apple to actually monetize on the platform.

That being said, Apple could single-handedly also catalyize the role of tablets with whatever they do, but for that to happen I think is too soon. If that's the case, they might internally be working on a tablet, but I think its still years away from public disclosure. They might take the idea of a tablet, and kind of build their own implementation of its purpose and how it might serve, rather than what is on the market now, which run Windows XP/Vista with something like a stylus. Kind of like the same thing they did with the iPhone. It's still a phone, but not your average phone or even a smartphone. They might do the same with a tablet. What I'm trying to say is, although the form factor might fit for a tablet, its purpose could be vastly different.

I have an Ipod Touch. Or, "used to have" - I haven't seen it for months. It might be buried under a pile in my office, or it might have been stolen. Someday I may find it, or not.

C'est la vie.

Do you think that updated iMac's are coming as soon as October / November? I wouldn't have expected an update until Q1, 2010.

Apple has to have some new CPU for the holidays and Oct. is traditionally iMac upgrade time.

And your evidence is?
Also Apple must do something with the iPod classic or have a nice little funeral for it (os 9).

what are the chances that iTunes changes its name? cause its really not just tunes anymore

history anyone?

I don't know why people ever thought that the "iPad" ( that's what I'm calling it! :p ) would be released before 2010.

We still have Snow Leopard to release, a new ipod touch, and this updated itunes to release.

Why on Earth would Apple want to release something that overshadows all of that? Snow Leopard will be extraordinary if Grand Central Station and OpenCL pans out.

Oh and one more thing.... remember folks AT&T's exclusivity date ends in... 2010.
( unless it's been extended, but I don't think that's ever been made public if true )

They'll wait until first quarter 2010 ( calender I mean ) to say anything.

iTunes cocoa rewrite *crosses fingers*

yeah right... they'll just bloat it even more with social networking.
Lord I hope not. I have a media player that is under ten megabytes, why does iTunes have to be over 100 mb?

I'm hoping to see a new iPod Classic.

I am hoping there will be a 32GB iPod Nano. I have zero interest in a Touch. When I am running or working out, I don't want to worry about breaking my iPod when it drops.

I don't want a camera, or a delicate case. I want a very good amount of storage space, be able to put it though harsh heavy duty use, small size, and not worry about it breaking.

I heard that this new iPod device that Steve is going to unveil I going to be EVEN BETTER than an iTablet or anything else we ever could have imagined. He told me that it is going to make Itunes and iPods as we know them today OBSOLETE in the way that iTunes made CDs obsolete. Just wait. You'll see.

Not a chance. iTunes is a brand name. You don't just go ahead and toss that out the window.

I couldn't care less about Blu-Ray support or social media features. 64-bit iTunes should have been ready by Snow Leopard. Apple, of all people, should know that more features isn't always better. It's about the experience. Right now iTunes is a bloated pig.

I would love to have a 32GB iPod Nano as well. I value storage over bells and whistles. I never use the shake-to-shuffle feature, nor coverflow and I doubt I would use a camera.

Contrary to popular belief, Cocoa != magic. But however they do it, it would be nice to improve the snappiness--not that it's terrible, but I miss the days of iTunes 4.

It's terrible when you have a 6TB media library.

You folks have these huge dreams for September 9th. You're all going be very disappointed as usual.

I am just hoping that the iPod Nano is not just going to have a camera added to it and that's it. I would like to see a 32GB model of the Nano.

My predictions remain unchanged:

(1) iTunes 9 w/ social interaction via. Facebook, Twitter, etc...
(2) "Cocktail" Rumor, ie. new Format for Distribution
(3) iPod Classic - remains largely untouched, unless a bigger drive is announced.
(4) iPod Nano - Larger screen, w/ video camera & mic
(5) iPod Touch - Same chipset as iPhone 3gs, Video Camera w/mic, $199,$299, $399, 16/32/64
(6) Apple TV Update - 1080p, Game/App Store, New Remote and Interface

I really want a re-write of iTunes via Cocoa and 64-bit, but after Apple just updated Final Cut Studio without these two things, I am not expecting much.

Tablet = next year.

Blu-Ray = possible, now that support is in FCS, but I am not expecting much since it is an iTunes Event. Playback may come with iTunes 9, but with only the promise that future Apple Hardware will include Blu-Ray drives. I really don't see any models of the Mac getting an update at this event.

Beatles = Actually seems plausible this year to warrant an announcement...we shall see.
