Ohgoodlord, can you imagine the bellyaching that would go on in the iTunes store reviews, blaming Apple and Teh Steve for "Album Only" songs? Apple should put a disclaimer on any "Album Only" or "Partial Album" releases in the iTunes store so the clueless fans would know who to be pissed off at.

or they can just ban future reviews that whine about it, if they even read the reviews before hitting the "Yes" button

reminds me of someone here a few months ago that said "Apple doesn't have a review process for new apps submitted to the store. it's just a monkey at a computer with "Yes" or "No" buttons"

I bet you all the songs will be "Album Only". reminds me of when the iTunes store was barely starting that U2 refused to let their songs be sold individually until Steve Jobs turned on the charm and it was done. But with the past tension of Apple Inc. VS Apple records (see my earlier post) I doubt The Beatles will let their songs be sold individually. the only songs I care about are "All you need is love" and "Yellow Submarine". "Hey Jude" sounds nice but I won't be buying the entire album
I have the 1990 masters of all of the Beatles CDs starting with RS, except the "White Album", and for similar reasons. There are about six or seven songs from that album that I'd like to have in my iTunes collection but with the going rate for the current two-disk set at >$30, well, I figure nobody needs "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" that bad. ;)

Its funny, because they used to release some songs like "Hey Jude" and the rippin' version of "Revolution" only on singles. But now it's somehow artistically impure for people to pick and choose just the songs they like off their albums. Go figure.

Gps after all?

So the tomtom app was anounced for the ipod touch aswell.

I had asked this earlier but it went unanswered.

Does that mean the 3rd gen iPod touch is going to have a GPS reciever after all?

What do you guys think is the likely hood that it will have 802.11n?

Maybe, but mist likely it's only going to work because of the car kit which has a GPS receiver built in.

Well, everyone...I see the following happening at the event:

-The release of the 3rd gen touch including rumored camera and mic.
-The release of iTunes 9, because it is 9/9/09 after all. anyone seeing the connection?
-A simple refresh of the remaining iPods (capacity, firmware, price)
-A "One More Thing" announcement with an official release date of Snow Leopard.

This is my first post here on Mac Rumors. I apologize if I did something wrong, or if I did something out of the guidelines. I'm open to tips for future posting! Thanks

Nope, the TomTom cradle Car kit thing has a GPS chip in it. although looking at the iTunes store for the app it just says "Compatible with iPhone" so maybe you are right but I know there's an extra GPS chip in the car kit so maybe he's referring to that

Can they have it be both 802.11 b/g/n?. I'm planning on getting a 1TB Time Capsule soon and I'd love for 802.11n to be in the next iPod touch however if it's just going to be n then other standards won't work it'll fail. Apple's tech support line will be flooded by teenagers "HELP my iPod won't work with my internet" "ok check the side of the router and see what it says" "um it has 802 and a little dot and the letters b and g" "ok that's the old standard you need 802.11n now" "what?" "you need a new Wi-Fi router" "but I just got this iPod and I thought I wouldn't have to buy anything else and... *cries*"

I'm not saying all teens are technologically... non-informed but you should see how many people that go on Yahoo Answers asking how to sync an iPod or freaking out with CAPS LOCKS trying to emphasize that their iPod is frozen but they have no clue how to restart it

Anything is possible.

As to the GPS receiver, my guess is that the as-yet-unreleased TomTom dashboard mount will have a superior GPS receiver built-in, so the one in the iPhone and the one that doesn't exist on the Touch won't matter.

As far as 802.11n, I'd say that since the 3GS didn't get it in June that it's doubtful we'll see it in the Touch -- though I'd love to be wrong. Esp. since the new AEBS and TC will now do dual networks (802.11n for Macs and the :apple:TV, 802.11g for the iPhone/Touch/Wii/DS/etc.).

Like I said, anything is possible. At least I hope to see the memory doubled up on the Touch (and nano) at the current price points.

I doubt the One More Thing... will be as lame as the date for SL

likely it'll be something to do with The Beatles wether they're just saying that they'll be on iTunes or Ringo and/or Paul will come onstage. regardless I expect it to be something like that. or even Steve Jobs coming on to intro the next iPod touch.

Sounds about right. It will be cool to see what updates they bring to the iPod line, but it looks like we'll have to wait a while longer for any tablet announcement. I wonder if they're going to kill off the iPod classic this year?

it wouldn't surprise me if Apple released a Beatles iPod classic

like they did the Tony Hawk autographed iPods

or my favorite. The special U2 iPods

I bet they'll discontinue it but continue to sell it online just to burn off the extra stock. Apple's main focus is the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPod nano (which is why the classic hasn't seen any major changes and the shuffle this year sucked)

I believe the wireless n routers are backwards compatible with g or g/b/.

any my '09 macbook works on g/b/ routers so i think its a safe to say it might compatible unless im missing some detail.

1. iPod Classic will be discontinued
2. iPod Touch 16GB/32GB/64GB options
3. No tablet announcement, crying by hopeful Mac heads ;)

well, I don't expect tablet stuff this time. it's too early to finish that product even though we have seen some files on iphone software 3.0. as we know, Apple never releases unfinished product, is never hurry up for new one. as rumors say, we will see tablet someday next year if it is possible. anyway, it seems something has been confirmed on new ipods. for third generation touch, and 5th generation nano will have camera on the back. but I hope that Apple would replace the back to some matte, scratch resistant material like ipod nano. I don't want to cover all my ipods & iphone by cases. if Apple will change material for iphone near the future, I will be happier ever. plus, I am not sure whether Apple will update iTunes or not. but I don't think that social networking site like facebook or another streaming radio last. fm will be added. of course, last. fm is little different from itunes streaming radio. it makes your favorites, then streaming similar one? but 'cocktail' will be really true. I also want to change some feature on iTunes store (app store). actually, it's not easy to find what I really want to get.

we will see new very soon. we all fingers cross.

This seriously just made me lol really really hard.

Thanks for that excellent recap.

us all fingers crossing two!!

Didn't Yoko split them up?

I always thought they split because one member died but I'm being told otherwise

The first actual member of the band to die was John Lennon, in 1980, which was a decade after they split. The only death during their career was of their manager, Brian Epstein, in 1967 (two if you count Stuart Sutcliffe, who was one of the earlier members from before they actually got signed to EMI, he died in 1962).

Something that most people don't know is that during the recording of The White Album, Ringo actually quit the group for several weeks - as a result, some tracks (Dear Prudence, Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da, etc) had, for the most part, Paul playing the drums (but rumour has it that George and John played parts of Prudence as well). George also temporarily left for a while, IIRC, and John had wanted out since he filmed How I Won The War in 1966 (when he "discovered there really was a life outside of The Beatles"). Paul was the one that ended up killing the group, contrary to the Yoko rumour. In early 1970 he himself ended up quitting, but unlike the others others he never came back; he actually went to court and got himself out of his contractual obligations with the group meaning that under no circumstances did he ever HAVE to play with them again... and he never did. At least not until the 'reunion' in 1994.

...And that concludes this pointless Beatles fact of the day

1. Sales figures and statistics on iTunes and iPod sales, big focus on iPod touch and apps, little bit of crossover with the iPhone. Basically "Look how much money we've made!"

2. Colours for the shuffle, maybe as a quiet update outside the keynote.

3. Classic stays as-is, maybe a little price cut, again, possibly outside of keynote announcements.

4. New nanos, 16GB/32GB. Wider (taller?) screen, maybe a camera but I'm not sure.

5. New touch. Big upgrade. Faster processor, maybe scaled up a bit faster than the 3GS, video recording and editing, possibly 720p but unlikely. Higher resolution video output, maybe 720p with iPod HD cables.

So, like regular keynotes we're looking at three or four items at most, many demos, lots of chatter about apps and HD support and stuff leading into October's iMac releases.

Thats all I can think of right now

iPhone OS 3.1 Firmware

  5. 200GB: 249

-Updated iMac's and MacBookPro's with BluRay drives)
It's really annoying me how some people think we'll see anything other that iPod/iTunes updates at this event. This event is iPod/iTunes ONLY, nothing else. When will people get that through their heads? It's been that way for 5 years and will stay that way. -__-
- iPhone OS 4.0 preview
NO!!!!! Seriously, I'm sorry, but you are very naive. OS 3.0 JUST came out 2 months ago. Not all the bugs are fixed yet! Why would we see a 4.0 preview so soon? Have we seen that at the two previous iPod events? NO! If you know your Apple history, you'd know we don't see a preview of the next iPhone OS until March.

I'm sorry for being harsh, but a lot of people here need to be realistic.

Where are you getting all of these ideas?! None of them make any sense, except the touch having a camera, but I'm pretty sure that video was real, so I don't think it's in the same place as the iPhones

Beatles and Apple

I think it’s the final kiss-and-make-up time between the Beatles (aka) Apple Records and Steve Jobs (aka Apple). The Beatles entire recorded output is re-released on - yep, you’ve guessed it - September 9th as state-of-the-art remasters. Anyone putting money on Apple announcing it’s going to be available on iTunes? Anyone putting more money on Sir Paul making appearance at the Apple Media Event? And if he performs a song at the event I think it will be the famous b-side to Help. The track’s name? “I’m Down(load)”

may be you could be a bit open minded and think things could change?

what ones don't make sense?

I think we'll see something that sets apart the ipod touch and the iphone.

I dont know if im alone in this, but I just see the ipod touch as an iphone without the phone and 3g capabilities.

I see apple trying to change this at this years event, and make the product come into its own.

I'd like an ipod touch for the storage (I have a lot of music, and my classic is getting quite old now).... but I dont want to buy one because in few months ill be getting an iphone hopefully, and I'd rather not carry around products thats are pretty much the same.
