Everything doesn't need to be a social network. In fact, I would argue that most digital experiences do not benefit from being 'social'. Hopefully Apple learns their lesson this time.

C:\>Ping CONNECT
Ping request could not find host CONNECT. Please don’t check the name and stop with social media attempts.

How about focusing on streaming lossless, HD Audio or Hi-Fi instead of this crap heck Spotify has better curating Playlists and audio.

Rather than trying to compete with established social platforms, Apple should instead give artists the ability to connect their Instagram and Twitter content directly into Apple Music. So when visiting an artist’s page, you’d see their new music, most popular songs and album catalogue at the top and recent IG/Twitter activity below that. I would also love to see upcoming concerts in this profile. Nobody else does this. It’s an opportunity for Apple Music. Fans want to be able to see their artists live.

Yup, not sure why they never just chose this route. Makes too much sense. I’d also like notifications around shows or new albums, but we get none of that. Easy little ways they could make the platform better.

Jeez Apple, just give up. Other than iMessage/Messages (which iOS/macOS users are coerced into using by the fact that it's pre-installed on every device), I can't really think of an Apple social software or services success story.

Apple is just too much of a control freak to do this. It's the same reason they don't allow true alternative browsers in iOS (every alternative browser is basically a reskin of Safari) or put Progressive Web App features into mobile Safari or allow sideloaded apps. It's why their web-based (read: usable on any modern browser) solutions are always buggy and extremely late to the market. The less insulated the Apple ecosystem is, the less special and exclusive it will feel and the more open people will be to considering alternatives. There are certain times, it's true, that limiting people helps them build an easier to use device, but that doesn't justify the majority of their choices.

All the money in the world and they couldn’t see Ping or Connect being a failure. These large corporations really blow my mind

Throw it on the wall and see what sticks. Hmmm sounds kinda familiar....

You can’t fault companies for trying new ideas, otherwise progression will not be possible. Failure is part of the learning process, regardless of how large the company is.

Almost like if Google, Facebook, Amazon and basically all others were not shutting down features, failed acquisitions and entire social networks on a daily basis.

We choose Apple cause they are not like those ..... poor excuse in my book. You cant have Apple being awesome when they do things better than those companies you listed , but when Apple fails, compare them to the others..... we expect better from Apple . They don’t need our excuses

When Apple bought BEATs I considered it a VERY poor move. Lots of hype but no original thinking and so-so products. They were supposed to make Apple the center of the musical universe. Uh yea...right.
Been mostly money down the drain. And some of those BEATs guys are still there trying to figure out how to justify their high salaries.
At this point I'll quote the King of Pop.... BEAT IT!!!

As an artist in Apple Music (I’m a totally obscure no-name), I so wanted to like Connect, but its implementation and ease of use was abysmal. It could have at least been a good way of more “behind the scenes” sort of thing but it was not pleasant to use. So, good riddance, sadly.

Apple can’t really innovate anymore or at least come up with decent services. Now they are chasing the original content trend. They are so late to the party and it will bomb too, just like their attempts at social media.
I feel like literally the only thing that they can upgrade/update now is the price on their products LOL Tim Cook and many other executives need to go!
The company has been stagnating like crazy!

The real problem isn’t connect specifically but apple’s utter failure at connecting people with new music from artists they already enjoy or other artists critically reviewed in a similar way to those artists.

You get more from looking at the top 10 albums on a private torrent tracker than you do from Apple’s recommendations. And this is after streaming services early access and convenience sucked the oxygen out of music torrents.

Apple has all of the data and none of the tools.

My hope is that this is step one in a major update to music discoverability.

I wonder if Apple has a reverse incentive to getting you to listen to music you want in order increase profit per user by paying less licensing fees. The recommendation effort and quality is that poor.

I also wonder how much payola like deal making with the recording industry is making what I’m recommended so bad. For example I might get offered a huge banner for the new Pink album even though I wouldn’t want that based on years of data they aught to have from my iTunes playback.

Regardless, I go to other sites like Album of the Year to find what is actually good and then have to manually search for this in Apple Music. It is “laborious” given the company should just know.

Well on the bright side, next time I am having a bad day I will stop and remember even gigantic corporations worth billions make bad decisions & fail majorly sometimes.

Hell as long as I do not make a mistake twice, no matter how bad it is I am still ahead of Apple. Lol
