Just found this on the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4200540.stm , basically summing up what most people have been saying.

That would be quite a coup.
Sky Blue said:iTunes 4.0 brought was the iTMS, so what will 5.0 bring?
I doubt we'd see 5 until next year at the earliest.
I really dont care about that stoopid phone.

TobyM said:as we have itunes 4.9 now, i dont think well have to wait until next year for 5.0.
and i heard many rumors about apple selling music videos or movies, and possible negotiations with the industry.
i think definitely within this year.
and i hope next wednesday.
Sky Blue said:I don't know, I mean when did 4 come out? Start of 2003? This year (if i remember correctly) we've gone from 4.7.1 (Shuffle support) to 4.8 (videos) to 4.9 (podcasts). I don't see 5 coming until Jan at the earliest.
iDarenotsay said:To all those who say "Why do you need a video iPod"...I say...
WHY NOT!!!
I have a couple hundred funny commercials, video clips, movie trailers, music videos, and blooper clips that I would love to carry around with me (not to mention almost every Steve Jobs keynote from the last 4-5 years) That if I could have them at hand at all times to show my friends, i think it would be great. Yeah, the appeal may rub off, but it's the idea that the ability is there that is nice. So what if they come out with a video iPod...DON'T BUY IT if you don't want video. Or simply use the extended battery features and don't use it for video playback...

I was saying that, were it my company to run, id see a video ipod as being a much lower numbers seller than the audio, so if i was going to sell it at all, it would be a higher priced machine in order that the same overall profitability was maintained.
Id also point out that if your intention was (as other have also noted) to show vids to others, the machine strictly ceases to be a personal device...
Because you won't be watching movies on it. You'll be watching the weather in a 1-minute report. A 2-minute news report. A 3-minute music video. A 4-minute Rocketboom podcast. Things you can get in iTMS right now.talksalot81 said:My personal preference is to watch movies on a larger and larger scale.... why would i want to spend a load of money on a small device?

And, because you'll be making phone calls on it. Look at the Moto phones like the e680i. Stereo sound, stereo bluetooth, 2GB mem card yes, but also a 320x240 screen portrait-landscape, MPEG4, etc.
Sky Blue said:Macosrumors.com posted in May...
"iTunes 5.0, due in about three months, will reportedly include powerful new multimedia features -- all but taking over for QuickTime Player -- designed to work with Apple's developing HD Video Store and HD Media Hub device.... "
...but it is macosrumors.com...
