Honest question: Which one is better for the artists?
Since the vast majority of the money is paid to the labels, who in turn pay the artists, that really isn't a question that can be answered. Apple supposedly pays higher rates (really don't care to verify right now), but that doesn't necessarily translate to "better for the artists". Then you have to factor in a whole host of other variables to determine who's best for artists.

I prefer XM for my $. Apple Music as my secondary go to for music only. XM seems to have better genre mixes IMO. Also has a wide variety of different programing like sports, money and artist interviews.

Does anyone else find the Apple Music app to be "clunky" and not pleasant to use?
Yes, mainly having 'deluxe' albums or 'greatest hits' album still being shown. It reallly clusters your music searching albity, and is the main reason browsing on the Mac Music.app is so slow.

That's the old CD bussiness model, thats pointless in the streaming bussiness model.

Spotify rightfully at #1. Don't know why anyone would use anything else.. especially Apple Music?
Because Apple Music is awesome

Yes, most definitely. I still use it, but I really wish it were completely redesigned.
Nope it’s excellent. Definitely not windowsy, and I dislike windowsy

Browsing is slow? Probably your WiFi or internet. I have a 2014 MBP, not slow at all

It’s available on all my Apple devices, especially the Apple Watch and Apple TV (as I still don’t have HomePods in my country). It’s integrated with Siri, and I just like keeping it all within the Apple ecosystem.

Spotify is available on both Apple Watch and Apple TV and is integrated with Siri, you just need to say “Hey Siri, play X on Spotify”. I have used both AM & Spotify simultaneously for about 9 months and could not find a compelling enough reason to drop Spotify.

  • Sound quality relative to Spotify, at least for my my preferred listening material.
  • 'Just works' across iPhone/CarPlay, iPad, Mac, HomePod & Sonos.

Spotify’s sound can actually be better if you max it up in the app’s Settings and remove “Volume optimisation”, which is set to ON by default. Worth a try.

“Just works” - unlike AM, Spotify will also allow you to pick up playing from where you left it on another device, which is super neat. HomePod experience is a bit more fidgety, but this is not Spotify fault.

Right now, the majority of artists are broke as **** and/or working second and third jobs to make ends meet. Streaming services are all trash that don’t compensate artists fairly, but sure, let’s get hype over them making millions off of the work of others.

If you only stream music, buy one album by an artist you love today.

I use Apple Music and it’s quite cheap (2.32 USD for educational program), but I don’t understand why it messed some of my added albums many times.

Honest question: Which one is better for the artists?
Honest answer: Nobody really cares.
^Sadly, this is true.
Do even the artists themselves not care?

Who do the artists say gives them a better deal?

Where do they get their data from? I’ve never used Amazon music Is it any good? I thought they didn’t have the same library of content as Apple and Spotify do.

I still think the Beats acquisition was stupid. Eddy Cue got taken for a ride by Jimmy Iovine. Anyome who says it was for the ”profitable headphone business” then why is Apple making its own headphones? AirPods are more successful than any Beats product ever was. And that will be true if Apple makes it’s own over the ear headphones too.

agreed. It’s quite awful. Been that way since the iOS 7 “redesign”. It really fell off the wagon in iOS 6. iOS 5 was by far the best iOS ever. I miss it, with the great music app it had, amongst other factors (airplay that actually worked the right way).

I can't stand Spotify's designs since the early days. Apple Music works seamlessly in iOS and maturing in macOS. There is no interest for me to add a poor architecture code base, pig of a product in Apple ecosystem.

Funny, I don't ever get this `nag screen.'

yeah, you can turn that off. Settings - Music - Show Apple Music - off

I don’t understand the hate for Tidal. Some of us with hi-fi gear appreciate the higher sound quality especially listening at home. When I go out in public transport or the gym then I use my MediocrePods Pro with Spotify on my iPhone when sound quality isn’t relevant.

Since there isn't hate for other high-def / lossless streaming services, one must conclude it's because of either the genre of music (Rap/hip-hop) that Tidal specializes in. Or...who owns the service?

To be fair, it's not the fault of the user, 10$ a month it's 120$ a year, it's way more than what people put in CD every year even during the 2000 CD boom
So the problem is somewhere else

Any credible sources to back it up? Genuinely curious. 🖐

Yeah. 256 AAC is transparent. 320 mp3 is not.

An interesting read, yet they state that the sound difference between the two is nearly indistinguishable, then we also need to consider that AM uses 256Kbps in AAC for its encoding, while Spotify - 320Kbps in Ogg Vorbis MP3.
