Man are you behind the times. That was true in the beginning, but because of the backlash Apple removed that requirement and you're allowed to make games that require an actual controller. Making your game work with the Apple TV Remote is now optional.

Yes, but the damage was done and nobody sees the aTV as a viable console alternative after that launch. On top of which despite (quietly to avoid admitting a mistake) bowing to pressure, Apple has done nothing since introducing Crossy Road to indicate they think aTV has anything to do with gaming. I was replying to a poster who was basically saying aTV is effectively a console gaming platform.

So tired of facking subscriptions! Can't even buy a photo-editing app. No, they'd rather I subscribe monthly.

Subscriptions can be great, but not everything we use is suitable for a subscription. I subscribe to Apple Music because the family plan is a great deal for what I get. So much cheaper than buying my kids that new CD they used to ask for. I use Office 365 as it's also a great value for what you pay.

Beyond those two I haven't really seen any subscription service I'd want to sign up for. I don't even have Netflix or Prime. So I'm curious what Apple has on Monday, but I'm not optimistic it'll be something I want.

Games are horrible on iOS. Most if not all the big developers over time stop updating their apps. It’s just not worth it for them.

Even with the nimbus controller the games are not nearly is fun as on a console imo.

Has anyone actually looked in the iPad App Store for a solid game lately ? There are none/

There's plenty of great games in the App store. I was just reading about one where you get to use real money to buy bags of game gems. Whoever has the most gems each week automatically wins. What could be more fun than that? And you don't even need a controller to play, just a credit card with a high enough limit.

I think it can work for gaming if Apple can convince publishers to create higher quality games for their platform

Almost certain this is why Nintendo pushed back MarioKart Tour for iOS. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them on stage on Monday at some point.

Apple is in a good position to offer a complete service; movies/series, games, music, news/magazines...

How they package and design the experience will be interesting to see on Monday.

Depending on pricing, it may even draw me away from Netflix.

If they change the bezels on the iPod touch so they include a d-pad and buttons, then I’ll get one... and jailbreak it, and put emulators on it.

They did, it's called the Apple TV. Turns out nobody really wants to play games on it, though.
I want to play more games on my Apple TV, but there aren’t so many good ones, and I can’t pair a PS3 or other Bluetooth controllers to it (unless I buy a new one).

Funny, none of those "problems" seem to have stopped iOS gaming from becoming a multi-billion dollar industry.
There can be problems with relatively successful products and services. I think Apple wants to make billions more. Solving problems will help.

Apple... Hello.... I'm a 42 year old male, make a nice living, work hard. I have a handful of Macs spread throughout my house, one in the upstairs office, one down stairs in the kitchen, and one in the garage. All Macs of varying ages, dating back to 2008. I love each one as if they were a child. ( I have 2 of those too, buggers I tell you, kinda like your software upgrade cycle, always needing something. ) I use them (Macs), for things like, CAD, exploring the interwebs, and most of all, MUSIC! You know, basic ****. Remember the how you guys used to say you were a music company first? I can barely get Airplay to select the correct zone without iTunes going bonkers turning on and off all the Airplay zones, and this is from iTunes of all things. I don't need to play music in three different zones from my iOS device, for goodness sakes I have 6 Airplay zones house, imagine how that would sound if every zone was playing different music. Now Timmy boy... follow me here... imagine if you were at your favorite Artist's concert. You were enjoying a nice glass of pinot grig' and an evening full of Lana Del Rey and all of the sudden you heard a faint whisper of The Platters, Smoke Gets in Your Eyes? Can you imagine that? You try to move closer to the Platters but some trash cans get in your way. That's how I feel.

I want a music platform that works, maybe offer a Remote App that can search and play from the Apple Music library within iTunes, but this time don't limit it to only start, pause or advancing the track? Is that too much to ask? Can you help?

IAP free-to-play trash is not going to make a successful subscription business, and if you don't include that, iOS gaming is tiny.

Nothing in your post has anything to do with the imaginary problems I originally responded to.

Nobody knows if Apple even has a gaming subscription in the works or if they have a way to transition from current models to the subscription model. So your claim that they can't make a successful subscription business is just a wild guess.

What I do is to connect my iPad or iPhone to my tv via the appropriate adaptor, and play using a MFI controller. It's not perfect (sine there's black bars on the side if you output from your iPad), but still a pretty decent gaming experience overall.

I suspect that's why Apple isn't too bothered that gaming on the Apple TV hasn't really taken off. The success of gaming on their mobile devices makes them more than happy to overlook this misstep.

"The monthly service fee would be divided amongst the games in the service based on how much time is spent in each game. The service would likely focus on paid games rather than the popular free-to-play genre."

how much time is spent on each game? So, its not exactly a fixed cost then.

I imagined more like Steam, but for Apple.
I’m pretty sure they are referring to how much money the developer gets paid, not how much the user pays.

Ahh forgot about the Mario Kart delay - could be! But then again I think the rumors are to late for this service to be included on Monday.

Yes, Netflix is also a service I could change for something else; I rarely watch anything new or “must” on there.

It needs to be cloud based streaming and it needs to be desktop, mobile and Apple TV. It needs to feature games people actually want to play (PC ones) too.

Renting a few sub par games on your iPhone is not going to cut it.

Apple has 900 million active iPhone users, and maybe about 100 million Mac users.

Which option do you think is going to be more lucrative for them?
