Have we lost our civility? Political views were considered a private matter when I was growing up. I think social media is obviously misusing their platform to push their agenda. There's no civil discourse in showing your colors. It never ends well.

How is a news platform publishing profiles of all of the candidates a bad thing? An informed electorate is something we should all want to see.

Yeah, uhh, you do realize that every state gets 2 senators? The most populous and the least. Gerrymandering one state that nobody's focusing on because of their size gives them the same input into our government as a state like California.

Gerrymandering is typically an intrastate issue (unless we're specifically talking about the rare state that splits their electors like Maine). State's don't proportion out their electors for the presidency, it is in effect popular vote across that entire state. In that scenario the definitions of state house and senate districts just don't matter at all. If you obtain 50% plus 1 votes in a state, regardless of them being the most convolutedly and partisan gerrymandered districts in history, you get all of that state's electors. It just doesn't matter. Even if you're trying to make the point that gerrymandering affects US Senate seats (which I don't think you were) that still wouldn't apply as US Senate elections are statewide as well and not affected by gerrymandered districts.

I'm not saying gerrymandering isn't an issue for state assemblies or even US House seats but it's completely irrelevant when discussing the presidency (or even US Senate).

Hope that makes sense.

I just looked down the list of topics/sections on Apple News and don’t see a Political Candidate Guide. Why did it not jump out at me? Where is it hiding?

It's one thing to support socialism (I certainly don't). But to give all the idiotic statements Trump makes a pass - because he has a couple policies you kinda like - that's questionable too.

Too bad some see this as a choice between an idiot and socialism.

I think there are moderate, intelligent adults in the field on both sides. Hopefully one will emerge to become a legitimate contender for president.
Just to be fair, what policies from Obama Administration do you like? Obamacare, DACA, not closing Gitmo, Siriya policy?.. please name some.

My point isn't about the policies. My point is that he is such a buffoon and an ****** that he's turning off moderates to conservative ideas. He ruining the conservative brand.

All I ask is that he study the issues before making countless dumb tweets and treats people with a modicrum of respect.

It's like those who support some of his policies (anti-abortion) will overlook all of his bad behavior and character flaws because they're getting the policy they want. That's short-sighted, and IMO, will come back to bite them in the ass.

Good lord my friend... being reluctant to declare my country the 'BEST' in the world is not HATING my country. But I guess for you, everything is binary?
I hope you realize the world, our lives, our countries, are complicated shades of grey. Those who think otherwise ... aren't thinking.
No, pretty sure we're the best. I know there are folks who are so hellbent on cultural relativism and perhaps you're one of them.

There's a reason people are dying, literally, to come here.

There's a reason people who live in a country with socialized medicine flock here for treatment.

There's a reason people flock here for our world class university system.

There's a reason you don't see Apple, Amazon, Google or Microsoft coming from, say, Spain or Italy.

There's a reason Western Europe has such a big social welfare state (namely, our military defended them during the cold war---more money for Western Europe socialism!).

Most people understand this, which is a reason there is a lot of jealousy of American floating around out there.

We could do this all day.

Are there problems in this country? Sure. But America is an objectively better country by most measures than anywhere on the planet.

But I guess it offends your sensibilities to make that statement and instead, you'd rather view all countries as varying degrees of "sort of okay."

What’s that reason? How does it explain the fact that Nokia (Finland), BlackBerry (Canada) and Samsung (South Korea) have been, at various times, leaders in world-wide mobile device markets? How about the fact that Alibaba (China) has more customers, is more profitable and growing faster than Amazon?

LOL. Welcome to the rest of the world. In Germany there has been a website where you could check which of the parties fits your values point by point before you vote for almost two decades.
Yeah it would make sense that we don't have that here. Contrary to what the brainwashed 'Murcia lovers (aka "patriots" lol) here like to go on and on about to no avail, we really don't have a democracy anymore. We used to, and we were definitely founded on that idea, but now it's money that does the voting. I feel sorry for anyone under the delusion their vote means something in this country. But that being said, I vote, and I vote because that's the only way to fix the issue. It's an ironic but frustratingly cyclical process that we've been stuck in since well before I was born. And other than a few exceptions, most politicians don't actually care about the poor souls who elected them hoping to see change.

Well it does sound like you are personally very proud to call the US the best country in the world. Though of course neither you or I personally have had anything to do with making America so wonderful.
I would say I’m ‘lucky’ to live here. Pride comes from something you personally contributed to.

Most people don't like what Facebook did, with Trump's and Russia's help, in 2016. Oddly, there are absolutely no measures being taken to protect the integrity of our elections this time. So the door's still wide open for Putin to screw around this time. So, the question is, what responsibility is it of the platforms? Facebook magnifiied the effect, along with other social platforms, for one reason: there is no editorial responsibility. As long as you keep clicking, the platform makes money, leaving us wide open to any kind of influence.

You may think that's fine, but I don't. And Apple's executives don't. What do you do about this? You hire editors. They are human beings. They can do the best they can giving an honest rundown of the facts about a given candidate and their stance. How they're doing in the polls, etc. In other words, human beings, not algorithms, which are the world's easiest things to divert or cheat with, as long as they encourage management not to be editorial. You want a conservative platform? Well, you already have a few. Is Breitbart edited with algorithms? No.

You’re welcome to insult me at any time. The point is that the "tolerant left" is such horse 5h!t. Sooooo tolerant. Lol. Sure. Silly red necks with their guns and bibles.
So you're admitting that the right is intolerant. They seem to wear that as a badge of pride, after all.

In 2016 you couldn't go two minutes without seeing the pathetically juvenile "*******" or "liberalism is a mental illness". It's gonna be even worse next year...

Wait a second, information equates to a loss of civility?

I wonder if Trump will get a profile or will Apple go the way of Google and boost one side while suppressing the other?
Would you like to see Trump’s honest profile? Oh wait, better to call it a profile based on reality. Honest is not the word to use.
