Plastic blocking?

I thought it was the 5g antennae window. I’ll have to see in Apple Store sometime.

The SIM card slot on the U.S. models is now occupied by a plastic spacer. The benefit is only to Apple in cost savings.

I’m pretty convinced they deliberately made it bigger just so they can reduce it next year.
OMG!! What is wrong with you people? I'm pretty convinced you people think the Earth is flat. Clearly the time of intelligent discussion on MR is gone. It's all about the hate now.

Relax Bob. It’s all about the real world. In a nation where the average citizen reads at the 7th/8th grade level (Source: The Literacy Project) Class resentment, lack of education and economics come to the fore. We all know the earth isn’t “flat”!!! Laughs.

Apple is calling off plans to increase production of its latest iPhone 14 series after an anticipated surge in demand failed to materialize, Bloomberg reports, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Apple has reportedly told suppliers to rein in efforts to increase iPhone 14 assembly by as much as 6 million units in the second half of the year. Apple had upgraded sales projections in the weeks leading up to the launch of iPhone 14, but it appears that the actual demand was not as high as expected.

As a result, Apple will aim to produce 90 million handsets for the period, which is around the same amount it produced in 2021 and in line with Apple's original forecast this summer.

As we've been hearing in the last couple of weeks, demand for iPhone 14 Pro models is stronger than the lower-priced iPhone 14, and Apple has reportedly told one supplier to shift its production capacity from the entry-level iPhones to premium models.

China's economic slump is also impacting Apple's sales, with purchases of iPhone 14 models in the first three days of availability said to have been down 11 percent on last year's iPhone 13 series.

More widely, surging inflation, recession fears, and the war in Ukraine are all impacting global demand for consumer electronics, with the smartphone market expected to shrink by 6.5 percent this year to 1.27 billion units, according to figures quoted by Bloomberg from market tracker IDC.

What does Apple expect when the 14 offers so little upgrades?

Surging inflation & recession fears - people will start to priority with their spending habit.

Not much change from iPhone 13 to 14, it would be a good idea to introduce modular hardware update like screen, CPU, SSD, battery or camera - it will be cheaper, quicker to replace and good for environment as well.
We say this every year, but the Pros still go 1-2 months backordered. And in store stock is way worse this year. Maybe they would wise up and make less regulars and more Pros one time

I think Apple needs to watch what happens when the iPhone 14 Plus arrives on October 7, 2022. I think the larger screen and much longer battery life of the iPhone 14 Plus could find buyers, especially those who use the phone as their primary Internet access device.
I think it will definitely pull people who just want a bigger screen still looking at month out ship dates for Max

I would have bought the 14 Pro last week if : 1. Bugs have been corrected ( Car Play & Data Migration ) and 2. 512 GB . Hanging on to my 12 Pro for now. Don't want a buggy 128.

Most people I know in 2022 have either Apple fatigue or financial anxiety. Or both.
Former is me. Due to hearing all the problems and nonexistent in store stock, I finally just went to the VZW store and got Z Flip 4 with zero installments with credits from the 13PM trade. Haven't been to the dark side in like five years when I skipped X for GS8+

The "sources" with access to this insider information are likely contractually obligated to keep their mouths shut and would not be likely to reveal anything. This reeks of short covering.

Not surprised as the jump from 13 to 14 has to be the smallest jump in iPhone’s history. Perhaps tied with the X to XS.

The only thing the regular 14 did was make the 13 line a better deal.
You got that right. Waited for the 14 to be announced and then picked up a 13 via corp upgrade at dirt cheap pricing.

I said a few weeks ago that the economic crisis in Europe was going to have an impact and some regular members here laughed and told me Apple wouldn’t be planning to increase production if they thought they’d be affected. Their market research was more conclusive than associating a huge decline in public spending with a potential drop in iPhone sales I was told. Well here we are and would you believe it, articles popping up suggesting less people are upgrading this year! iPhones have also gone up in price to maintain Apples margins inline with the rise of inflation. It’s a recipe for forcing demand to decrease.

Mobile phone upgrades are going to slip way down the list of necessities this year for millions of people across Europe. Mortgages are rumoured to increase by £600 a month and energy costs have already skyrocketed. For me this is anything but a surprise.

The Pro’s are significantly more expensive and service a smaller segment of the market. The Pro’s usually sell out initially because less of them are made in comparison. This year the regular 14 has less demand because less people globally are upgrading in general due to an enormous economic crisis. iPhones are the least of peoples concerns at the moment which is why consumer electronics, cars and just about anything which is considered a luxury purchase has experienced a huge drop in demand. In the UK the government are discussing giving people money to spend in order to boast the economy. In recessions, people generally stop spending and funds are saved instead.

It’s a bit of a unique year on the whole to be honest and Apple further affected themselves by increasing prices rather than absorbing it within their profit margins. Everybody is making sacrifices right now but Apple opted out it seems.

And I was about to go and spend 1600€ on a new iPhone Pro or 1100€ on an iPhone 14 (13)

But it is times like these that shows companies are only willing to cater to the wealthy who can afford the price increases and not willing to help those struggling. Surely Apple would want people from all walks of life to purchase their iphones at a time like this, not just the well off.
Apple does offer the SE and the previous model phones at reduced prices. With the drop in Euro and Pound values, phones will get more expensive in those markets.
