Seems kind of irresponsible to spend "hundreds" on apps when your phone doesn't work.

I've used the store since day #1. I made the purchases back in the good ol days when my phone could be held in either hand. As they say, they don't make them like they used too

Why? I would think anyone who had an IQ over 60 and purchased an iPhone would automatically buy something to protect it as the first order of business.

Reminds me of the old joke:
Soldier and marine go into the restroom and pee.
The soldier goes to leave and the marine retorts "weren't you taught to wash your hands?" to which the soldier replies "I was taught not to pee on my hands"

You protect your iPhone by being careful with it including holding it normally in a way that activates the iPhone design flaw. If they intended them to be In cases they wouldn't make form-fitting docks, would they?

You're missing a huge point. You wouldn't buy a bucket with a hole in it? So why buy a phone which can't act as a phone when you hold it normally? All I want is a phone that works that doesn't force me to have a bumper/case/tape. It's a product that's not fit for purpose. Hundreds of thousands know and accept that. We don't have ego's to fill; it's the fact we have bought into a phone that has a major hardware fault.

Some people go over the top, but you don't have to tarnish everyone with the same brush here. I'm not majorily annoyed and so furious I'd be like the hulk. I just want a major corp like Apple to put their hands up and deal with it.

For something like 999 out of every 1,000 there is no problem. For 1 out of 1 there is no problem as long as you do the smart thing and get some kind of protector for your phone.

Out of curiosity, you obtained the 999/1000 statistic... where?

Dude, my point is this; you should be able to use the iphone 4 without problems, as we did with the 3GS, 3G, etc...

Right, I completely agree. And because they don't work the way they should, we should return them and buy a different phone.

That's all I'm trying to say...

I could have sworn you were trying to also say I was ignorant, but that's cool. :)

I disagree. You must do all of the following to be unable to make calls:
1) use it without a case
2) use it in a low-mid strength coverage area
3) use it so that your hand covers the lower-left gap

I agree that it's a problem. I agree that apple has screwed up and needs to fix it. I agree that you should be able to use it in the above situation without an issue.

But when people say things like "it's not fit for purpose" or "it doesn't make calls," you're resorting to hyperbole, and that doesn't help make your point.

If this is true, Jobs needs to be removed. Sorry, but an elitist attitude hurting the public can not be tolerated.

Cases may help, but the cats out of the bag that the device is flawed and it will hurt Apple in the long run. It will also hurt your resale value.

This is not the Apple I love. This new Apple machine cares about the buck before the customer. Sad, but t looks like the transformation to greed is now complete.

Apple has now brought themselves down to everyone else's level. Nothing special here anymore.

Lets 1 in 10 people are left handed. Lets say 1 in 10 people live or work at the fringe of reception. This gives you 1 in 1,000 lets not forget that not all left handed people hold their phone in a strange way.

Dear 1st Post Ever Guy,

We are all tired of random people coming here calling who-ever a fan-boy.

Speak for yourself. When the blind fanboys go on insane rants about how great Apple is even when it's clearly not the case then its time for someone to point out the obvious. Apple lost the ball here. No point of denying it. The only thing that remains to be seen is if they can turn this PR nightmare around. Hint: free rubber bands won't do it.

ffs, i do NOT want a bumper, free or not, to add thickness to my iphone.
let's not forget its original intent is to be portal and mobile, it's not sensible to have ****en layers of garbage fix/protection on the outside when the device itself it supposed to work without.

i m gonna donate my iDropCalls4 to "is it okay to microwave" if s. jobs doesn't issue recall and stay away from :apple: products for life.

I have said this a thousand times. It is not a joke. Tomorrow Apple announces they are reducing the price of the bumper for those with a problem. NOT FREE.

Why? I would think anyone who had an IQ over 60 and purchased an iPhone would automatically buy something to protect it as the first order of business. Signal issues or not, you should get some kind of case or bumper.

If you want to cover the beautiful phone that Jonathan Ive spent years refining in an ugly case, thats your prerogative, but to insult those of us who aren't clumsy buffoons is just stupid.

I've never used a case on any of my iPhones and I've never damaged any of them.

My prediction is that Steve Jobs will be sitting above a pool of water holding an iPhone4 to his ear "properly" and with a rubber glove, there will be a sign above him that says "signal loss is a non issue...you're holding it wrong.", and anyone with signal loss issues, may throw their iPhone4 at the sign, if successful at hitting the sign, Steve will drop into the water below.

After the show, you may collect your free latex gloves, or a special edition Michael Jackson glove with sparkles available for extra.

So what do you think is the lowest denominator in the blame chain? 1.) Steve Jobs, 2.) Apple Engineers 3.) Ex-Apple Employees 4.) Customers 5.) Manufacturers abroad. 6.) Media.

So go buy one. Who is stopping you? On my walk home I passed a Verizon, a T Mobile, a Sprint, a Cricket, and an AT&T store. (I walk home through a mall). Additionally there are at least a couple kiosks who are "authorized resellers".

I bet that I passed by 500 perfectly good phone models you can buy. And if you add in the internet I bet there are over 1000 perfectly good phone models you can buy.

If the iPhone pisses you off so much - just return the darn thing.

My bucket doesn't have a hole.

You have a bucket with a hole and instead of doing something about it you just sit around and whine on the internet about how your bucket sucks because it has a hole, even though the bucket maker has offered you a full refund if you don't like your bucket.

That's only your opinion, others do not want a case regardless of that. They might argue that anyone with an IQ over 60 could learn not to be a clumsy oaf.

Lets 1 in 10 people are left handed.
What?! Right handed people hold the phone in their left hand so they can enter with their dominate hand. We have heard from a few that say they dial with their thumbs while holding it In their right but those are the 60 IQs that need a case - who would juggle an expensive piece of equipment like that?

If the phone is unusable, return it.

The bitching and moaning on this issue has become a joke. Nobody is forcing you to keep your iPhone. If it doesn't meet your needs get a different phone. People act like they are owed something....If I bought a pair of pants with a hole in them but didn't know there was a hole until after I bought them I would return them. I wouldn't bitch and moan that there should be a recall or demand the issue be fixed or feel like the company that made them had to do something for me....I would simply return them and get a different pair of pants

To insult those of us who are clumsy buffoons by calling us clumsy buffoons is just stupid. Perhaps you need to spend more time jumping down a flight of stairs or sprinting across the road. iPhone safe lifestyles are why this country is getting fat.

Has anyone applied the new update and confirmed they still have the issue?

Yes. Both 4.0.1 and 4.1 beta 1.

That is not to say that improvements won't be added to later builds of 4.1.

4.0.1 did not change the modem baseband at all.
