A recall is a stupid move. If not happy with iPhone, ask for a refund.

Agree - this whole "issue" has been totally been blown way out of proportion by the sensationalistic media.

IF there really was a problem worthy of a recall, people by the masses would already be returning their new iPhones for the under 30 day return period - which has NOT happened. In fact, supply is still flying off the shelves...

If the phone is unusable, return it.

The bitching and moaning on this issue has become a joke. Nobody is forcing you to keep your iPhone. If it doesn't meet your needs get a different phone. People act like they are owed something....

But Dah deee I must have an iPhone. I absolutely Must!

I completely agree with your statement.

In fact, I think there will be several returned tomorrow or over the weekend if they don't/refuse correct the issue.

These will be some of Apples most loyal users! Angry, shocked and in complete disbelief that Apple has become just another manufacture.

ffs, i do NOT want a bumper, free or not, to add thickness to my iphone.
let's not forget its original intent is to be portal and mobile, it's not sensible to have ****en layers of garbage fix/protection on the outside when the device itself it supposed to work without.

i m gonna donate my iDropCalls4 to "is it okay to microwave" if s. jobs doesn't issue recall and stay away from :apple: products for life.

:mad::mad::mad:

you're kidding me right? you want jobs to be removed (the guy who resurrected apple from the dead) over an antenna issue that is being WAY over blown? Are you asinine?

Please go elsewhere and think you're going to get a better product. I've had zero problems with my iphone 4, I've not dropped a call, I've not had a problem with uploads.

if you're the type of person to grip and squeeze your phone near the antenna with your left hand the major problem is you. The only way I made my phone drop a call is when I squeezed the living hell out of the lower left hand corner while covering it up with my full hand.

it was also an unnatural way to hold the phone and felt weird. I think its easier doing the three/four finger hold since I've done since the original iphone came out. I hold my phone with my index finger going up the back and two fingers hold the sides, zero problems.

people just want to cry, kick, scream, until they get there way

you idiots realize you have 30 days to return the phone right? if you don't like it return it and get a droid

then you guys can cry about all your personal information being stolen by apps and sold to third party vendors and then cry about android OS fragmentation.

Anyone....

...in Europe have the same issue as in the US. I'm in London and I know quite a few people who have not experienced the same problems. I'm left handed too so given the description of what happens to the signal it should happen to me too. Problem is I've not had a single dropped call. Don't get me wrong I see the bars going down, but I don't lose a call. The bars right back up and stay there despite my hand covering the lower left side completely.

From my experience so far, the iPhone 4 has a much better signal reception than the previous 3 iphones.

I wonder how much this has to do with a good network signal? Anyone know the answer?

My guess, you will go to the Apple Store. They will give you a slip of paper you take to the nail polish place next to the food court. The Nail Polish Lady™ will apply a thin clear layer of non conductive stuff to the antenna.

Lets 1 in 10 people are left handed. Lets say 1 in 10 people live or work at the fringe of reception. This gives you 1 in 1,000 lets not forget that not all left handed people hold their phone in a strange way.
Wow, the assumptions here are fairly ridiculous...

* First, plenty of right handed people hold their phones with their left hand. As many have stated, they'll hold their phone with their left hand while doing other tasks with their right hand. It's not at all uncommon, and simply walking around in any public place would show that.

* Two, you don't need to be "at the fringe of reception" to get a weak signal. Cell towers sometimes go down. Cell towers are also often over-utilized. Both scenarios, even in large urban areas, result in loss or weak signals. I live in Phoenix, a fairly large metropolitan area, and I've been an AT&T customer for almost four years, and have had plenty of times where, within the core areas of the Valley (Phoenix, Glendale, Tempe, Scottsdale, Mesa), I've lost signal strength.

Recently I was even in Evanston, IL, and for those who are familiar with the Chicago area, it's basically in central-north Chicago. Densely populated. I had absolutely no coverage for a few hours, with a "No Signal" on my iPhone for awhile, and a low signal for much of the remaining time.

Remember all the reports of low signal strength in cities such as San Francisco, New York, etc.? Yes, clearly "fringe" areas...

* Three - It's hardly "strange' to hold your phone in the manner causing the loss of signal/dropped calls. In fact, there were promotional images that Apple themselves released showing people holding the phone in the exact manner that is now known to cause the signal loss/dropped calls.

Yes, clearly, such a "strange" way to hold it...

They might argue that anyone with an IQ over 60 could learn not to be a clumsy oaf.

Unfortunately I am surrounded by a whole world of people who have IQ below 60 and are clumsy oafs - who can easily knock my nice phone out of my hand or off of a desk.

Why? I would think anyone who had an IQ over 60 and purchased an iPhone would automatically buy something to protect it as the first order of business. Signal issues or not, you should get some kind of case or bumper.

I've had all 4 iPhones and I've never had a case. My IQ is well over 60 but I realize it just a phone and I don't need to wrap it in cheap plastic. If it gets a scratch big deal it's a freakin' phone.

It's called an electric cattle prod. If they bump into you, give them a nice shock back.

(Oh, and maybe if we're lucky, it'll catch on, and Apple can someday market it as the "iProd")

I think they should put a decal in the lower left corner that says "Touch to Drop Call". That would make the problem a new feature.

now that Schumer is involved...

Doesn't the fact that Chuck Schumer is jumping on the band wagon tell you everything you need to know? Interesting that this "news" is escalating right when Google is being asked to detail its possible illegal lobbying with the White House. Most of the noise about how "terrible" the reception is, comes from non iphone users who are rooting for their favorite smartphone team. Why didn't anyone talk about how the last 3 iphones didn't receive better scores on reception than Blackberrys & Nokias? This iphone is clearly better than any previous iphone; and if you don't agree, buy the 3gs for $99 bucks!

Well, the phone may not work very well, but damnit, it'll be stylish. Mission accomplished.

Are you serious? I love Macs, but this statement is as bad as what I've heard from Delta Air Lines cheerleaders; the Deltoids who believe Delta can do no wrong.

Form over function. Function first, then I want the absolute best in form that I expect from Apple. :apple:

Returns

I won't be returning mine. I'm in London and mine works just fine. I think its your network in the US. I've yet to lose a call.

If they are not gonna have an exchange program, I am just gonna return it until and use my old 3g until the new model becomes more widespread.

There isn't people returning them in mass because we actually like the phone lol.

I'm beginning to believe that may be a big part of the issue, could also be the network is overloaded, I mean- suddenly millions of new iPhones turning on. You forgot to say one thing though, "damn Yanks". ;)

By definition, if you have low signal strength, you are in a fringe area. There are lots of ways to hold an iP4 that give you far better reception than a 3GS. There is one way to hold it that gives you a small drop in signal. I would think it would be strange to choose to hold the phone in that one way.

Plain and simple people. There is a problem and theres no denying it.

1. Keep the phone
2. Return the phone

Anyone that says apples in the right for not fixing a documented flaw that ever user will suffer from at some point is just unbelievable.

Black and white!

Is this really what Apple wants people to accept and think of their brand? (You love it so much we can sell you flawed products and you have to take it because we dont care about our users) And do they truly believe this is not going to affect the brand and market share?

I personally dont like being punked by companies. Apple had never made me feel this way, but this is not Apple of old. Welcome to the new face of Apple folks.

Did I say...

That I'm in London and mines working great. Did I also say that I think the cell reception is better. I can't recall whether I said that the bars go down being a left hander but go right back up and that to date I have not had a dropped call. I must of forgotten to say all this.

As a resident of New York I need to say Schumer is a d**chebag. He always sticks his nose in things to get media attention and basically causes all sorts of problems. As long as he's in the limelight he doesn't care. Massive narcissist. Apologies to the rest of the country.

Yeah, ********. I think I'm done with this phone. When a company sacrifices the most basic aesthetic of an electronic device for "looks", that is just wrong. Goodbye Apple, hello Android.
