are you kidding ?
Nope, they start counting from when you sign the new agreement online, so for preorder people on the 15th their date has passed. Now because they were so backlogged some who ordered first day have 16th as their cut off but that's pretty much the last day for first day pre order people.

My day was the 14th and they wouldn't take the phone back without a restock free since Apple won't admit to the hardware being defective.

Maybe Mr. Schumer should campaign for a nationwide unified wireless standard, with real, serious, coast-to-coast coverage. I'm talking everywhere, not just Williamsburg and Nob Hill.

An infrastructure project of this magnitude requires the coordination provided by a central governing body. It's why we're a nation.

The state of telecommunications in the United States is total ass-hattery, now made clear by Apple's technical goof and software kludge with the iPhone4. Crappy signal is crappy signal even if the bar maxima are changed.

I was told that The receipt date is when I receive it not the preorder date..

Maven1975 brings up a good point. You guys maybe OK with buying a defective phone now because it's new but if you ever want to sell it down the road demand may not be there.

Well call 611 and ask them when your last day to return is. Someone early today said I was spouting BS until they called themselves and found out their date was the 16th.

I'm really confused. The problem grows bigger, they announce a press conference (must be big internally then)....
Well, what will they do if they're not gong to recall the phones out already? Sure, that wouldn't make much sense since most users are REALLY happy but what else?!... Why have a press conference?! Jeeez, Apple havng a press conference... there must be content but I just don't see what they're going tot talk about... "not having fixed anything", never!

I still think that bumpers are gonna be free or at least cost almost nothing, by this time tomorrow, AT LEAST. I expect more than that though....

In ancient times...

In ancient times they used to think the liver was the seat of the soul, obviously Steve's replacement soul wasn't grade 'A'.

I told you there would be NO recall!

There is no need for a complete recall. Get a bumper. Not hard.

Or just return the damn phone.

Edit:

Steve will announce tomorrow that the "death grip" was actually just a ingenious new feature that he forgot to mention. Problem Solved! :D

Wow, do you want a cookie for your prophecy? I shouldn't have to buy a bumper when a company knowingly puts out a product that is flawed. They knew specifically what would happen. I've been an Apple fan since my first Blue PowerMac G3 tower but that doesn't mean I'll blindly follow the all mighty Apple anywhere. Yes, I can return the phone but that's not the point. Would Toyota say yeah we kinda knew you wouldn't be able to stop. Just bring it back for a refund or just "get a bumper".

I paid $399 for this phone. I've had every iPhone every year. I'm not going to ghetto rig it with a piece of tape. I put my trust in Apple. They've deceived us. If they do add insulation to future models I want one of those. Point is, nobody is going to rip me off. I was raised that way.

If the news leaks are true, It looks as if an internal fix is underway...possibly a coating of the antenna or some sort of internal "bumper".
Perhaps this is why there are extended delays on new sales?

For existing users, Apple will probably offer a replacement. I don't see how they get around this. For users happy with their phone, they will give them a free bumper. It's rather simple.

Apple is going to have to spend money and even take a loss to protect their business, their name, and their image. Their future depends on it.

Gruber is speculating that there will be another big announcement tomorrow, though he has no idea what. I say Apple has wiggled out of their exclusive contract and other carriers are on the way. That will provide enough distraction from the "non-recall" . Again, Apple must be forward thinking. Even if they had to buy off AT&T, then it will be worth it.

Apple has egg on their face and needs to nip this entire situation, NOW.

I'm with Jobs. My phone works just fine and I am able to make calls in my home that I was never able to make with the 3GS.

The more people that don't buy it, the less time I have to wait next year for iPhone 5.

A well thought out and intelligent post. If only more people felt this way.

I still stand on my thought

The Wall Street Journal reports that Apple is not planning on issuing an iPhone 4 recall at tomorrow's press conference.Apple engineers were apparently aware of the risks associated with the external antenna design but "Mr. Jobs liked the design so much that Apple went ahead with its development". Earlier today, a Bloomberg article similarly claimed an Apple engineer expressed concern about the design.

The iPhone 4 signal issue has exploded in the media in recent days even with New York senator Charles Schumer publishing an open letter to Steve Jobs expressing concerns about the issue. Schumer is known for his efforts in consumer protection.

Apple is holding a press conference tomorrow to address the issue.

I think no recall but I still believe that some kind of temporary sales suspension on iphone 4 until they fix the problem... So it means another delay just that it.

I don,t mind a delay as long as the issue is going to be fix. As I am waiting for a white iphone, so I will differ my purchase to end of august or early september. In a meantime I asked my auntie to buy me a google phone and hopefully she will be able to ship to me this Saturday.

I'm surprised though at how many people are rising up and saying just add a case or a bumper and live with it. I'm simply shocked that they consider that an okay resolution to this.

The press conference will be interesting. They needed to do it though. The bad press and obvious number of folks unhappy is going to begin taking some serious tolls if they don't resolve it all.

I just did and was told that the return date starts from the day you activate your iPhone. The person I talked was a manager and promised that his info is 100% accurate. Since I ordered mine from Premier, He said that I cannot return to a regular store.

It is an example of fan boyism at it's finest man. No logical rational person would consider this a solution. If EVERYONE thought this way and went and bought a case to fix the problem this just tells apple to continue to do this as a way to increase profits by selling more cases with every release.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_0_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8A306 Safari/6531.22.7)

4.01 fixed my iPhone. Death grip before I would drop calls at around 45 seconds. Held a call for 4 minutes and iPhone never dropped lower than 2 bars and never lost call.

Thanks Apple!

Yeah right!!!! Your full of ****

It's kind of like thanking Apple for selling you the phone.

Here's a nice little quote from an article that illustrates my point:

The trend toward viewing customers as a problem versus income source seems prevalent these days.

AT&T didn't have a specific date for you, how very odd. Everyone else had one.

The person I talked was a manager and promised that his info is 100% accurate.
Then why is everyone else being told dates like the 14th-16th of July?

Since I ordered mine from Premier, He said that I cannot return to a regular store.

How very very odd. You can always return AT&T mail order products to any AT&T store...

Very very very odd.

Ah I see its a business student discount thing. Still odd the 611 operator didn't have a date right there in front of them.

what probably happened is that the young, healthy California techs that tested the phone didn't take into consideration the fat, greasy, sweaty palms of all you geeks.

my prediction for tomorrow ... no recall, and just to piss you all off increase the price of bumpers to $50

Best quote of the evening. I laughed for 5 minutes!

I'm just amazed at people who seem to not care that there is a real hardware problem, and their solution is "just buy a bumper".

Im amazed people are refusing to just return the phone and buy something that works for them. Absolutely amazed.

The IPhone is the coolest gadget I've ever had

Quote: "As I've said before, you don't recall a non-dangerous product that the vast majority of buyers are very happy with. You let dissatisfied customers return/repair/exchange, but it has never made one ounce of sense that they would recall a safe product over an issue that many people don't experience."

I LOVE my IPhone 4 and have never had any problems with it - and I live in an area with only Edge service. Several friends and family also have new IPhones and none of them have any problems either - and some of them live in 3G coverage areas. Some are even left-handed!

I believe that there must be some people with antenna problems but I strongly doubt that it's the huge number these message boards would have you think. Remember that while Consumer Reports did find a problem, they also said this is the best smartphone available.

Apple is a company which, for many reasons, seems to polarize people. There are as many Apple haters as Apple fans and the Apple haters are having a field day with this issue. It's my opinion - and I do mean opinion - that this has been blown WAY out of proportion by folks who have just been waiting for Apple to make a mistake.

If I could figure out where to send it, I'd email Steve Jobs personally and tell him that my new IPhone is the coolest gadget I've ever had - and I've had many in my lifetime. The cameras are wonderful. Facetime is a special gift for me because I've been able to see family not seen since Christmas. This phone is faster than my old 3G. The display is amazing. I love folders. Need I gush more? In fact, the IPhone is so great that I'm lusting after an IPad next.

If you don't like Apple products or the IPhone, don't bother to respond. I really don't care and I'm frankly tired of reading all the griping and carping on these message boards. People are starving and dying all over the world with less notice than this phone has received. Develop some perspective on what's really important and get a life!
