A recall for an issue that most users can and will successfully avoid encountering as a significant problem, that can be fixed with a <$1 piece of rubber is the stupidest idea I've seen proposed in some time.

Anyone who has, since the Consumer Reports video, thought this would end any way other than free bumpers, is a fool

A $1 bumper that Apple sells for $30.

AT&T didn't have a specific date for you, how very odd. Everyone else had one.

Then why is everyone else being told dates like the 14th-16th of July?

How very very odd. You can always return AT&T mail order products to any AT&T store...

Very very very odd.
Yeah at fisrt, he said that my return date was the 18th then he put me on hold and came back to affirm that the return date is the day I activated it my iPhone which is the 23rd. Anyway, The iPhone 4 release date is the 24th so how can they deny us to return it 30 days after the 24.
Did you order yours online or instore ?

The iPad will cost 999$
No recall tomorrow.

Apple is playing with our expectations. Everyone will love Apple again when Steve Jobs will announce the recall tomorrow.

iPhone 4G

Will I upgrade my 3GS now - don't know it will depend on Apple's response tomorrow?

But lets face it Apple only produces computer products and excellent software. In the big picture this whole thing, Apple and Steve jobs is totally unimportant in the world today. If you don't like Apple's iPhone or begrudge its popularity, then go for an Android which has a number of excellent features.

That apart - really guys and girls this is not important in the world today - what is important is finding alternative energy sources to oil and protecting our Earth and ensuring that financial institutions and governments cease their cover ups to protect their own financial interests at our expense.

This is where your energy should be pointed not to some nice looking expensive phone which palls into insignificance when compared to real world problems.

Steve jobs is either going to announce an exchange program or tell everyone to F' off ... Essentially.

Apple will probably gut most of the returned phones for parts to make refurbs.

Im amazed people are refusing to just return the phone and buy something that works for them. Absolutely amazed.
And they are no less amazed that Apple would put out a defective product and not fix it as of yet. And even more amazing that those who bought them from 3rd party dealers like AT&T can't return it without expense.

The world is an amazing place.

Seriously, if it is not a recall I will be retuning mine...Even if I don't want to, I just can't use my phone at all due to very slow data and dropped calls.

If they are not gonna have an exchange program, I am just gonna return it until and use my old 3g until the new model becomes more widespread.

There isn't people returning them in mass because we actually like the phone lol.

IF the update (gasp - 90 minutes remaining) doesn't fix my 3G Data problem, I'm doing the same, if the Press Conference doesn't say anything substantive I already have a Genius Bar appointment for tomorrow afternoon.

I have a bumper, it makes no difference. I am getting download speeds of under 300 more than not, I can't get email reliably, I'm dropping calls, and that dam_ proximity sensor has cut off more calls than I have successfully made.

AT&T is blaming Apple and Apple is blaming AT&T. I have had it. My 3G works just fine.

And an apology to everyone for (expletive deleted) Schumer. I didn't vote for him and I am ashamed that he represents my state.

Well for some reason these days materialistic things have become much more important to people, sad really. "Keeping up with the Joneses" seems to be the only thing people care about. So they'll keep their products just to get a ego stroke from others, even if the thing can do something as basic as keep connections or phone calls.

Easy, again if you remember your upgrade date (if you aren't a new customer) it also was 18 months from when you ordered your previous phone, not when you received it.

I ordered on line for home delivery through the regular upgrade section in your online account area.

So that some manager tells you that what's in the computer isn't what AT&T is going to hold you to... well, let me know how that works out for you.

Tomorrows announcement is that you all have been the victim of the most elaborate April's fools joke in the history of mankind. You all bought the GIZMODO model which was made to test the human "materialistic mentality" and Apple's "brand power"

The real Iphone 4 will be out next september for just $399

did you take a look at the invoice that came with the iPhone in the mail ?

It is an example of fan boyism at it's finest man. No logical rational person would consider this a solution. If EVERYONE thought this way and went and bought a case to fix the problem this just tells apple to continue to do this as a way to increase profits by selling more cases with every release.

Well I have an iPhone 4 (just got it cheap, with no contract extension, otherwise I'd never buy it, and certainly not going to lock into AT&T for two more years), and I put it in a case mate case, and it works great. It looks fantastic with no case, and yes the bars drop like a rock when outside of the case, but the thing seems so dang fragile I'm surprised people would WANT to use it that way. But certainly it should be their prerogative.

What do you call people who have one, think it works great with the case and are satisfied with it, but also think Apple blew it and, it's a huge problem, and needs to do something about it immediately? I guess that would describe me.

If you don't like Apple products or the IPhone, don't bother to respond. I really don't care and I'm frankly tired of reading all the griping and carping on these message boards. People are starving and dying all over the world with less notice than this phone has received. Develop some perspective on what's really important and get a life!

It works both ways pal, Apple is one company that has the media in their back pocket, they are always hyping up their products for them.

Now they have a serious issue with their phone [sorry I consider not being able to hold a connection on a phone call or internet a big issue for a phone] you think it shouldn't be a big issue now?

As long as the media gives Apple positive light its GREAT, AWESOME, EXCELLENT! As soon as they have a defective product and the media is all over it now they should "get perspective" and focus on more important things in life? Get out of here with your blatant fan boyism.

And as if your phone works perfectly and your friends, I guess Jobs sent you a specially made phone that is designed completely different from the people that are complaining about the issue?

Apple has been doing this crap since around 2007, releasing products that have had absolutely no testing and letting the public do the testing for them, it is just wrong.

I'm not even a apple hater, I consider myself level headed and I have several iPods laying around here that I use regularly but I'm so sick of them thinking they can get away with releasing half tested products and then releasing firmware updates to "fix" the issue, which really just covers it up. iPod Touch 2007 was a COATING issue, but they just adjusted the gamma settings to cover it even though really it was DEFECTIVE hardware.

Really if you want to read apple in a positive light stay on their discussion boards, I mean after all they are pretty good at deleting topics they don't like over there. No one is forcing you to read these posts.

Come on really, you can use them for the old 3gs. If you have spent hundred of dollars for apps since the IP4 was available 21 days ago then you are not telling the truth.

Hv u not read fullofwin's sig and seen his avatar...he already isn't telling the truth...congrats to him...first on my ignore list

If you're buying the case for protection or visual preference thats one thing, its quite another to buy it to fix a product defect. I'm referring to the apple bumper cases, not 3rd party developers.

Really, to me this is like buying a HP Laptop for example, then having them tell me, "hey the wireless adapter doesn't work it is defective, but for $30 we'll fix it for you!"

The 5 years I've watched keynote addresses, I have not seen apple promote a accessory as much as they did the bumper case, I thought it was blatantly obvious they knew of the problem ahead of time and their fix was to charge you $30 for a bumper case.

It makes me even more angry steve comes out and says its a non-issue and to not hold it that way. Talk about arrogance like no other.

I told you there would be NO recall!

There is no need for a complete recall. Get a bumper. Not hard.

Or just return the damn phone.

Edit:

Steve will announce tomorrow that the "death grip" was actually just a ingenious new feature that he forgot to mention. Problem Solved! :D

It's the new hidden feature of secretly hanging up on anyone you don't want to talk to!

LOL. Loved this post.

Right, I completely agree. And because they don't work the way they should, we should return them and buy a different phone.

I could have sworn you were trying to also say I was ignorant, but that's cool. :)

Which brings us back to the initial point; if you've accumulated hundreds of dollars worth of apps, music and videos on iTunes, you don't want to have to switch to another phone or regress back to a previous generation. This modern technology should work, and if you've invested in an ecosystem, you want to remain in it, ideally with the ability to purchase the latest phone that functions without defects.

I said not that you are ignorant, but that your post was. You have redeemed yourself with the placidity, while I have enraged for no particular reason. Let it be known that my perpetrated emotion is meaningless.

I don't understand why people are whining like little girls.. didn't apple say you can return the device if you don't like it...

just return the damn device and shut the hell up

Only date on that is the 17th and says right on the invoice 30 days from the date of purchase.

so you still have 2 days, the invoice says it all !! I really do not want to pay the restocking fee though not if their phone isn't working as promised. (my downstream doesn't exceed 800 kpbs and upstream 95 kpbs, unacceptable!!)
