Or someone like me who invested into this phone. I switched carriers, sold my old phone, bought slot of apps on the first day. A bumper to correct the problem, a car charger, etc. Well over $150 of extras now. Not gonna get all my money back. So yes, I hope there is a hardware fix and I'm up there near the first to get it since I preordered.

The real question is after they return the iphone WTF can they buy that does not suck all over. Sure maybe the phone part works but most of the rest just plainly is dung. Even the Evo with that massive large screen does not look like a phone and more in line to a small ipad. I for one was hoping for a smaller iphone on this ver, and in some ways its a little bit smaller easier on the hand.
Not some big bloated screen for watching HD TV, haha.

Sorry but that what my 50 incher is for, with 7.1 to enjoy a movie in all its glory.

those whiny kids here just can't accept this almost perfect phone has some minor "defect".. u hit the right note.. what are they going to do with the money returned...

serious.. u wanna get a HTC phone? lol... u want to be SEEN holding a HTC phone?:p:p

How about making the phone just released usable in your left hand. I know it a little too much to ask, I'm just that way I guess.

I came into the Apple ecosystem for quality, not phones that cannot be used while holding it tight in my left hand.

Perhaps it is. You are free to go elsewhere. But I suspect you would rather stick around and bicker.

You remember when it was reported that Apple may have been prepping a 3GS style iPhone 4 alongside the new design? Perhaps that was due to the antenna issue.

they won't be giving away free bumpers...

Instead it will be a new iGlove, an amazing, revolutionary, beautiful, amazing, glove that is non-conductive.

Available in black or white.

(Prosthetic hand replacement optional)

Thats funny, Apple will be trying to bring back the Michael Jackson one glove look!

Actually we prefer to stick around and get Apple to fix the phone.

Too many on here prefer to smell Steve's feces and not call it the **** it is.

You've really got some damn nerve. Is your skull too cluttered with iLove to understand that we iPhone users are locked down to iOS? I've had an iphone since the first generation, and i have a lot of money invested in apps, i have text messages backed up from years ago. Did you maybe perhaps think about that? For all the investment and loyalty i've put into apple's phones, they BETTER ship a well working one. Yes, that IS my god given right. Ingrate

You are ignorant. Apple has no obligation to continue releasing iPhones, let alone working ones. %!#$ happens. You have no rights. I love your doofus badge of honor signature. You lonely, lonely person.

after 20 pages of comment. I finally found a pattern.

"if you don't get signal, AT&T blew it,

if you holding the phone not the way we wanted you to, YOU blew it

if you buy a manufacturing defected product from apple, and refuse to buy an other outrageously priced rubber, your IQ blew it"

I would like to go, if a fair resolution of my app purchase can be made. If I'm forced to leave the iPhone platform because its design prevents it from being held in the left hand, then I would like a way to sell my licences for apps or get a refund for them.

I made the app purchase under the assumption that all future iPhones would work in both hands. Since apple and I seemingly disagree about this, and only proper function in the right hand is currently supported, then I think an out is due myself and all other users who made this speculation.

Is that not fair? Some form of an out, regarding apps, needs to be given to all of us who assumed that the iPhone would work in both hands correctly.

Speak for yourself. When the blind fanboys go on insane rants about how great Apple is even when it's clearly not the case then its time for someone to point out the obvious. Apple lost the ball here. No point of denying it. The only thing that remains to be seen is if they can turn this PR nightmare around. Hint: free rubber bands won't do it.

And I hope they do fix it. But some people who have an iPhone 4 problem seem to think that they deserve a fix plus a free iPhone 5 when that comes out... I mean there should be reasonable expectations from both sides here. Apple should fix this issue, but if they don't those experiencing issues should return their iPhones (I will if they issue no fix tomorrow).

I guess I'm just tired of all these complaints when all we have to do is wait till tomorrow.

An analogy, if it pleases the court of public opinion . ..

True story. I went and bought Sony's new iPod Dock speaker unit. Looks nice and it's a Sony right? But then I played my tunes through it and wow, what a POS. Really, how can Sony put out a product that does not perform its most fundamental task: Playing music? The specifications specifically state that it is a full range speaker driver and there is no way it was producing any sound below 100 hz. And it distorts mightily when I put the volume up too much. Total fail on this product.

Am I gonna sue Sony? Nope
Am I gonna complain to Sony? Nope
Am I gonna bitch and moan on the internet? Nope
Am I gonna return the damn thing? Well, duh. It doesn't work the way I expect it to.

Why should iPhone4 be any different? If it's bad, then take it back. And don't give me the "but I bought all these apps so I'm locked into the iPhone," bullcrap. It would be no different if you were a new Mac user who ended up not liking it so you switch back to PC. You think you are getting a refund on the software you bought? Not likely.

Too many on here prefer to smell Steve's feces and not call it the **** it is.
Ha ha!
And you are calling it alright and yet eating it like there's no tomorrow and complain it didn't quite suit your system and yet want more.

I think too many people on here prefer to step in "Steve's feces" and then refuse to wipe it off. ;)

i just want to say that,

to release a flawed product @ ridiculous price, i chose to say nothing
to bundle with ********* carrier around ATnT and simlocked to it, i chose to say nothing

but thennnnnnnnn? they have this ****ing plastic chinese factory made cheap-ass bumper , which if you don't buy, your signal will be fvcked for life, for 30$??????????? i see what you did thar, you fvcking greedy bastard.

i say **** YOU, steve jobs, YOU ARE NOT GETTING MY MONEY.

Not to work you up anymore, but if you do breakdown and get the bumper you'll have to replace many of your legacy chargers and adaptors, etc. Go to Apple's online store and look at the reviews building up on many of the iPhone accessories… more money for Apple.

If tomorrow ends up being a wash, a good grass roots campaign would be for all who are unsatisfied to simply make fun of anyone that whips out an iPhone 4. That will halt sales fast enough. Hell, next time you go to your local Apple Store to buy something laugh at anyone hovering around the demo models. And yes, I do get the irony that I would be laughing at myself, as well. Not a problem, at least for me. ;)

Does anybody really think that Apple releasing its first iPhone case the same time that they release a phone that has such reception problems is a coincidence? Oh, and that case just happens to be the best looking "fix" for said reception issues. I'm upset because it definitely appears to me that Apple released a product they knew had a major flaw and then had the audacity to charge $30 extra for the "fix."

Another poster also made a good point about how invested we Apple users are in iOS. I have spent quite a bit of money on apps for my iPhone and the "take it back if you're not happy with it" solution is not really an option unless I went to spend more money getting an Android phone up to similar functionality.

To me the bottom line is a company should never release a product they know has such a blatant flaw. By doing so, they are taking advantage of the consumers passion for Apple products, knowing people will by such a device anyway.

My guess: Apple will start shipping all iphone 4's with a bumper. These bumpers won't be flashy or trendy, as all iphones will receive the same bumper. You can still customize your iphone by removing the supplied bumper and purchasing a colorful, unique bumper. Costs apple probably about $1 per phone, solves reception issue, doesn't lock them out of selling more bumpers.

Those who have already received your phone may take your receipt to the nearest att/apple store to receive your complimentary boring bland bumper.

No app guarantees compatibility with future hardware. The fact that newer hardware isnt working out for you does not necessarily prevent you from using the hardware on/for which you primarily made those purchases. So yes, your assumptions are indeed unfounded.

Maybe bring in your iphone for a "special sticker" to be stuck on the left side?

I told you there would be NO recall!

There is no need for a complete recall. Get a bumper. Not hard.

Or just return the damn phone.

Edit:

Steve will announce tomorrow that the "death grip" was actually just a ingenious new feature that he forgot to mention. Problem Solved! :D

I sincerely hope you're kidding.

First off, sound quality is a matter of opinion. An equivalent scenario would be if the speakers you bought would only play music out of one speaker for every other song. That would be Sony lying to their customers.

Second, yes the "buying apps" is a valid argument.

Finally, the only way you could relate it to a buying a Mac and then switching would be if Apple only put out one computer capable of running OSX and then that computer not being able to connect to wifi if you were more than 10ft from the router. Your argument was based on someone simply not liking a Mac, which is purely a matter of taste, not blatant deficiencies.

AT&T's stance on returns?

OK, so I bought my 32 gb iPhone 4 from an AT&T store and received the subsidy to buy my phone at $299.00 with a new two year agreement.

It's clear that I can return the iPhone 4 and get my money back less a restocking fee (15%?) and purchase a 3GS outright.

What happens then? If Apple does get their act together and releases a new iPhone 4.5 that can actually make calls in my area without dropping constantly, will I be able to then re-buy at 299.00, or will I have to purchase at full upgrade price ($599.00??). I guess my other option would be to use the 3GS for two years or so until I get this contract runs out.

Getting off of AT&T entirely and going to Droid on Verizon is out of the question because of the contract cancellation fee.

Has anyone noodled through this process? I'm at a bit of a loss as to what to do, although the Press Conference tomorrow will clear it up somewhat. If there is NO fix (hardware/software) coming that will improve my reception, then I'll either have to spring for a microcell, or return the phone for something else. Either way, it really kind of sucks.

The iPhone 4 signal issue has exploded in the media in recent days even with New York senator Charles Schumer publishing an open letter to Steve Jobs expressing concerns about the issue. Schumer is known for his efforts in consumer protection.
