You're kidding me right???

You want full refunds for all the apps you have purchased? Regardless of the fact that:

1) YOU have used the apps for at least a year (I'm assuming you had at least the 3gs before the iPhone 4)

2) YOU agreed to the iTunes terms and conditions before buying any of the apps.

Try calling Microsoft and demanding that you want a full refund for MS office 2007 because you are sick of viruses on windows and you are switching to a Mac.

Grow up and take responsibility for your own actions.

You analogy fails because you can resell the licenses if you want, if you give up use of them. As an iPhone app user, I do not have this option. I could draw a picture if you don't understand this concept.

I don't want a bumper. I want the phone to work properly. I've read everything about the reception being better with the iPhone 4, but I've sure not seen it. With my 3G, I rarely dropped calls, and had no trouble in my home. With the iPhone 4, I'm dropping calls on a daily basis at home (and most everywhere else). My wife is having the same issue.

Since I work from home, and my iPhone is my primary business communications tool, I simply can't have this happen. It 's awfully embarrassing to drop a customer call and have to call them back and make a joke about the "All Over Network".

So, you say just return the damn phone. Well, I've got a significant investment in the Apple ecosystem that I don't want to lose! I've got hundreds of dollars in apps, movies, etc. that only work on an iPhone!

Think Apple's planning a refund for those dollars as well if I am forced to make a change based on the failures?

Yeah, I didn't think so either.

I think we all know what will happen........

Apple will extend the replacement period by 60 days, and in that time a new revision to the hardware will be coming out. If you want to replace your original phone with the new one just go ahead and take it in sometime in September. For the time being though, Apple will give all iPhone 4 users a free bumper to help the issue. In doing this, the expectation would be most users who get the bumper will happy with it and find no reason to replace their phone at some point two months down the road. The news of the antenna problem fades from the headlines and Apple wins.

Why do some people again and again just keep saying "If you don't like what Apple say tomorrow just return the phone"

When it's already been stated that in the UK you will probably have signed up for a 18 to 24 month contract and paid around £100+ on top to get the phone.

And if Apple don't actually admit there is a fault, then you will not be able to return your phone or cancel the contract.

Don't understand all the people screaming for recall over a returning their phone for a full refund. Makes me wonder if they even own the phone, just as bad as those G20 demonstrators who cover their face and go out looking for an excuse to cause havok.

Okay, the iPhone 4 has a hardware defect! Every single iPhone 4 was made the same, the reason some are experiencing this differently is because it depends on your signal strength, which depends on your carrier.

All new iPhone 4's have the same hardware, so all iPhone 4's have the faulty antenna design.

In my eyes, APPLE NEEDS TO FIX A FAULTY PRODUCT!.

That being said....

I don't wanna return my phone, I want it fixed!!!!

APPLE will have to do something like a recall, its inevitable, they need to fix the faulty hardware, they cant get by with selling faulty hardware!

The extending the warranty theory and exchanging when a fixed generation of iPhones comes out, is very possible.

I surely will be very upset, if Apple just says OH WELL! RETURN IT IF YOU DONT LIKE IT! because that would be asinine!.

Well said, now lets hope they do that!

If you're having a reception problem with your iPhone, download the newest update (4.0.1) and see if it works out. Apple knows more about the iPhone more than we do and they are going to take care of the problem quickly and effectively. If you are totally unsatisfied with your iPhone, it's simple - go to an Apple retail store, AT&T, or another retailer where you purchased it and return it.

Oh, and don't jump on the lawsuit bandwagon if you aren't even experiencing problems. It's pathetic.

I certainly hope you're right. I'd be perfectly OK with that scenario. I've got plenty of patience, but I need to know that something is being done to correct the problem.

A recall for an issue that most users can and will successfully avoid encountering as a significant problem, that can be fixed with a <$1 piece of rubber is the stupidest idea I've seen proposed in some time.

Anyone who has, since the Consumer Reports video, thought this would end any way other than free bumpers, is a fool

Giving free rubber bands might work in States but in Europe the consumer laws are much tighter. If you have design flaw you'll replace the unit. If not then you pay and then you replace the unit.

How much longer will some of you decently promote or find acceptable the free bumper offer (assuming this is what they will do)!!! THIS IS NOT A FIX!!! AND IT IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!

Assuming there is a fix in production Apple needs to extend the 30 days return policy (in the US) or whatever days in other countries (i.e 14 days in France) to allow us swapping the iPhone. Businesswise I would understand not to have a mandatory recall (some customers would not need/want it) but we need an OPTIONAL ONE for those wishing to swap it out!!!

When this problem surfaced, Apple originally said it was a software problem - that the software was showing too many bars and when the signal went down the user was actually seeing the accurate signal level.

At the time, I had a hard time understanding the explanation. How can a software problem be triggered by where you hold the phone? I am not a techie, so I don't understand how one has anything to do with the other.

Is the software problem a different issue, is it tied to the antenna issue, or was this just a load of BS by Apple to try and cover up the real problem?

I'm just curious.

it was apple trying to cover it up, but it didnt work so now this conference was called. but they still need to represent bars correctly so this update needed to happen regardless.

The funny thing is that everyone who've already bought the iPhone are tech nerds who want the latest stuff, and so they're just pissed of that s.th turned out different from what they thought.

If Apple had informed about this flaw from the first day, these folks would've still bought their phones. The best announcement that Apple could make is:

"Everyone who wishes to return their phones to us can do so. We'll give you 100% of your money back".

Almost no-one would return their phones. Because most people actually think the phone+the flaw is still worth it.

Ya I agree with you. If it was as easy as to return the phone and be done with it I would be doing that as well. But the fact of the matter is that most of us have apps that we are using on a daily basis, songs we are listening to, and other stuff that we can only do on the iPhone. So unless Apple is going to fix the ACTUAL problem and not cover it up with a band aid(Bumper Case) than I think that is a bad fault on Apple's side.

I just think that apples is looking at this as a money thing. what does it cost to make those bumper cases $1.00 at the most. Whoo freakin hoo!!

When this problem surfaced, Apple originally said it was a software problem - that the software was showing too many bars and when the signal went down the user was actually seeing the accurate signal level.

Apple never said that the reception issue had anything to do with software. They just felt people were using some semi faulty data and not understanding they were losing signal because they were in a weak signal area and making it worse by interfering with the antenna.

At the time, I had a hard time understanding the explanation. How can a software problem be triggered by where you hold the phone? I am not a techie, so I don't understand how one has anything to do with the other.

They never said it did. They said all phones have antennas and you can degrade any cell phone depending on where you place your hand and body. This is true.

So far Apple has never said there is any real problem. People having an issue need to realize they are likely interfering with the antenna in a low signal area. It is what it is. I would be surprised if that position changes any tomorrow.

This is the part a lot of people are missing. Apple has never said there is any problem at all. Nor have they said they are working on a solution for a problem to something that does not exist. To go from there to a recall would be highly unlikely.

Apple's position as of today is there is no special problem with the iPhone 4 beyond what you would find with any other cell phone, and actually the ability of the iPhone 4 to make calls in lower signal areas is better than any iPhone to date. For people who are unhappy with their iPhone 4 they can return it within 30 days of purchase for a full refund.

That is their stance right now. Will that change significantly tomorrow?

You sir, are incorrect. MS office will generally only activate on up to 2 computers. If you sell it on to somebody else, they will not be able to activate it on their computer, making it's resale value close to nothing.

because att will do a full refund but you must pay a restocking fee. wat bull ****

Senator Charles Schumer open letter to Apple WTF? who does this guy think he is? What in the hell is this country turning into?

A politician with the public's interest in mind (and probably a bit self publicising), what's so bad about that. Protecting consumer rights is a bad thing then?

End of the day Apple has a good record of rectifying their wrongs despite what haters might say(facts not fiction) and thats also why they are in the spotlight right now cause every hater is just waiting for Jobs and Co to fail miserably (which I think they will not despite f&^$ing up every now and then, but that's just my personal opinion).

they're in the spotlight now because the iPhone 4 design failure is the straw that broke the camel's back. for the past several years apple's QA has greatly deteriorated with several of their lines (Aluminum iMac Screen issues, MacBook HD Failures, iPod Battery, etc.) and they have don't nothing.

personally, i've had 4 screen replacements for my iMac, everyone had the same problem. finally they sent me a new iMac and guess what. yeah, it's still a junk ass screen that's inferior to even an Asus netbook.

lenghty thread posting from fans about how "apple haters" is wrong isn't going to change their mind, just like this posting of mine isn't going to change their mind. the frustration they are feeling is that a lot of people are finally starting to realize that apple is an expensive joke, and they're talking it personal because, well... they're psycho. ;) that's all this is.

I would also like to say as a 1st Generation iPhone 4 owner! It must be easy to say STOP COMPLAINING, just RETURN THE DAMN PHONE for a full refund when the person saying this DOES NOT ACTUALLY HAVE ONE!

If you have one, its not that easy to just return it, especially if your locked in contract! and I AM NOT going to settle for a stupid case, if I have a faulty piece of hardware thats the POINT of it!

-Franky

P.S If you have the phone, you can complain all you want about paying 300+ dollars for a faulty product, for those who don't have one, or aren't waiting for one on pre order, you cant say crap!
