IMHO, I would rather see more put into the size the MBPs are currently, than have them attempt to wow folks with a smaller package. The ease of use of the OS, and what we create with the computers should be paramount. Not what we can impress folks with insofar as how the darned package looks.

Mbp

Well, I've seen much better than this that I just made in Photoshop, but this is what I hope for! :)

MB just went through a redesign when it went intel. MB doesn't need a redesign.

MBP just needs a freshen up; making the HD user replaceable.

I just hope apple doesn't mess put the MBA keyboard on the MBP.

Just as in 2 years ago. That's long enough. Apple used to redesign cases even faster than that just a few years ago.

The design will change, but not like this. This is way too thin and the bezel is a bit too ugly. If it is going to be this thin, then I hope Apple has found a way to cool the machine off better in a small case, even the penryn gets a bit hot albeit not as hot as the Merom.

Besides, this is nice when you refine it in your head but it's no MAJOR redesign.

Why would they make the macbook or macbook pro thinner? The prime selling point of the air is how light and slimeline it is, if apple made the other laptops with a similar design that'd be shooting themselves in the foot.

Oh, and to anybody planning to wait until the redesign to buy a new macbook: don't bother. As it's been said, they'll only become obsolete within a few months.

Just making the MBP or MB a few centimeters or millimeters thinner will not take away from air sales. The air is ultra light. That being said, I hope that :apple: will not make the MB and MBP much thinner, just put more into the current size, and improve the cooling and battery life.

first off, i hope they dont shrink down the thickness too much. The thinner it is, the more flimsy and fragile it feels.

As for the oversized trackpads, really, i think that is a bad idea if they decide to implement it. I've tried the Macbook Air, and the trackpad was so huge i ended up accidentely pressing the trackpad and NOT the button more than half the time. A bigger trackpad is fine, but not as gigantic as the Air's and i also hope they dont make the button sooo NARROW.

I dont think i want the backlighting in the Macbook though: that's going to make it TOO similar to the Macbook Pro. What's the point of buying a Pro for US$800-1000 more when a Macbook has everything the Pro has except for a discreet gpu? It doesnt make sense, and Apple may end up cannibalizing their Macbook Pro sales if they try to squeeze too many addons to the Macbook.

Last, but not least, i think i can speak for almost everyone when i say that i HOPE the new redesigns allow for user-replaceable hard disks in both Macbook and Macbook Pro models. There was already been some talk that the redesign may be so streamlined that even the Macbook may lose its user-replaceable hard disk. Let's hope that does not happen, and that both models allow for consumer-changeable hard disks.

MacBooks will include SIM Card Slots

Gentlemen,

you can place your bet.

We have infos from our server guy from india, that:

ALL (!!!) MacBooks will include a SIM Card Slot like you have on the iPhone ones.

In times with flatrates and EDGE/UMTS, etc. this will be the next standard. Mobile business is also a big step in Apples road map. Kudos after the WWDC!

hardliner

Not sure what a SIM card would bring to the table. A WLAN card should be fine to access the cellular data network and many Windows PCs include them already (our HP laptops have them).

Actually I am not into commenting Apple rumors. But I see sense here. The current MacBooks, if we stay focused on Internet on the go, are like the iPod Touchs.

With a SIM Card Slot, it's like an iPhone. This is a huge difference.

Here are my hopes for the MacBook, granted these might put it in the realm of Pro, which is fine because I prefer a 13" sized laptop, but don't want the limitations of an Air, and don't mind if these desires upped the price (besides the BlackBook is already at 1499, which isn't the cheapest of notebooks):

Smaller bezel around screen and keyboard
Slightly thinner, lighter
Made of strong metal, glass
Brighter LED display (with less yellowish hue)
Discrete graphics
Multitouch trackpad
Keep keyboard style but with metal keys
7200 rpm drives

That would be sweet!

Add to this more HDD options and better battery life and we have a winner. I wouldn't mind grabbing a 13" MB for minor tasks outside of the office or on a shoot.

I think the bezel is beautiful

I agree, that photoshop is pretty good and the thought of a MBP that is even relatively similar will help me wait through the long summer computerless. Personally I think they should keep the MBP keyboard, but I'll still buy if they change it. Also, it might not matter to anyone else but I hope they increase the range of openness on the screen! Right now it only opens 110 degrees, which really isn't enough for lap use. Come on, Apple-if you're the kings of design work this out!

If you are sitting properly then it's just fine. The problem I always had with this is that the PC users that come from machines whose screen bend all the way back aren't using their machines properly in the first place.

How do you define "proper use?" Just because you don't use it that way makes it incorrect?

I use my MacBook "properly" and agree that it the screen doesn't go back far enough. It should be able to bend at least 180 degrees, like most other laptops can do.

Agree completely! My old IBM Thinkpad had the best (bar none) keyboard feel, feedback and key locations for touch typing, and when on my lap I could adjust the screen tilt anywhere I needed, depending on the angle I was holding it. Now that I have a Macbook Pro, that's one thing that gripes me a bit about it, although overall it's a huge step up with the mac.

How realistic are the rumors on new laptops?

How realistic are the rumors on new laptops in June? Is that based on anything but wishing and hoping? I'm getting ready to buy in the next month.

Thanks

From the new mba's battery design, I think it's fair to assume that they are going to make even FEWER parts end user-replaceable. Either that or have a epitome D'OH! moment and say "Gee, maybe we should've thought about that sooner!"
