how about standing at a bench using my macbook?

It needs to bend further back. I should have checked it before I bought I guess! Oh well.

I still like it, but that is really annoying.

I really don't see the need for it to have 180 degrees of swivel, but the PowerBook G4 I had could go back a lot further than my MBP, I don;t really see why they changed it.

The hinges have different construction. The new hinges, which imo are great, take up less space depth-wise from the computer but by design doesn't allow as much swivel as the older ones. I guess they sacrifised a few degrees in favor of a *better* hinge design and slightly smaller measurements for the whole machine.

Its about time apple has started upgrading their front side bus speeds. They've been underpar for awhile now, and 1066Mhz is still kinda slow considering the highest I've seen was 1666MHz and that was a year ago. They will probably increase that soon too.
You are talking desktops now? I'm sure Apple use the latest stuff Intel provides, or better, except maybe if a revision comes say one month to late because they wait for some other component aswell.

No, you won't find any LAPTOPS with 1666MHz FSB.

You won't find desktops with a 1666mhz bus. That being said, there are some really high end desktop replacement/ mobile workstation machines out there based on desktop chipsets/CPUs.

Technically AMD laptops have a HTT of 1600 while the desktops have a HTT of 2000.

eco friendly. recycle.
I understand it is the corporate responsibility to use more "environmental friendly" materials in production, however...however I love my white iBook G3, white iBook G4, white iPod 5.5G, and the white nano.
How many ppl will throw away their iPod after buying a new one? At least I wont.
It would be quite sad to see Apple dropping all white-coloured product.

another thoughts: how about aluminium to be painted in white?

Would rather have a PRO

I may seem out of "style", but I'm more interested in a MacBook PRO than a system "more in line" with those intended for use in the family room and for the kids homework. More battery life, less heat (related), potential docking solutions and other substantial modifications required for business use would mitigate the continued cycle Apple has enabled where they have to make excuses or "strategies" as to why we don't get more support for use in the enterprise environment.

Shouldn't make it so easy for the Thinkpad crowd! :(

When are these major design changes supposed to happen? Didn't they just get updated? why would Apple update so soon?

Apple was forced into the most recent update due to a lack of processors. WWDC is when they were most likely scheduled to happen, and we could see updates/redesigns then.

The practical upshot of a redesign for me is that the price of older models will go down by MUCH more than if it's just a spec update.

Speaking of which... anyone care to sell an old MacBook Pro (working, thanks.) for $700?

How were they forced? Couldn't they have just waited an extra month? I remember long waits in the past, but hey I'm all for an update in a month if it's going to happen.

Name changes?

Does anyone think the name of apples laptop line will change?
Powerbook -> macbook pro -> ???????
ibook -> macbook -> ???????
The only reason against a change is the macbook air but they can update it and change it's name as well.
What could they be called?

name will stay the same...

A docking system would be nice, but only if it's done elegantly, not like many gi-normous PC docking stations. Honestly, there is nothing wrong with what we have now.

Maybe we'll get that iMac-based docking station floating around the Net last year. :p

Whoa! That was close, almost nailed this 30" with my up-chuck....

***wipes away residue***

I remember that thing, VIVIDLY, and that was the mockup that turned my stomach away from many of the mockups that get thrown around this site. It still escapes me how anyone could have thought those things look "cool" and are/were possible designs for new Apple products.

This is my situation:

I start uni either in August (if I go to Babson) or October (if i go to University of Bath). I am going to the states in August and will be buying a Macbook there either if its the new one or this one, with 4GB RAM Memory, 300GB Hard Drive.

So here's the question: Will the new Macbooks be in for August?

I personally hope they roll out at WWDC because I'd like a MacBook Pro ASAP, but want to see what is coming. I'd dearly love a magnetic latch, for example.

I would think Apple would not want to go to the "Santa Rosa Special" systemboard tweak with the MacBook/MacBook Pro like they did with the iMac because the extra heat and power generated are both detrimental to portables since it reduces battery life. So if I had to make a prediction, I would make it on the basis that the MacBook / MacBook Pro would use an actual Montevina systemboard with the Intel Mobile 45 Express chipset.

However, Intel is suffering a shortage of 45nm fabrication capacity at the moment. Fab 32 (Chandler, Arizona) is the only "true" 45nm fabrication facility and Fab 28 (Kiryat Gat, Israel) is running behind schedule by about a quarter. Fab 11X (Rio Rancho, New Mexico) is being converted to 45nm production and it will be online sometime next quarter, as well. So this is making the conversion to 45nm a bit longer then planned, though Intel still says desktop and laptop chips should all be at 45nm by Q3.

300GB Hard Drive.

NEVER SPEAK OF THIS DRIVE AGAIN.... unless you mean 320GB drive that you install yourself of course.

I wouldn't was to see anyone running their machine on a 4200 rpm drive ever again. I know the iBooks had them back in the day, but that was 3 years ago. Stick with the 250GB or grab a 320 online and have it installed.

And don't buy the RAM from Apple, I hope that you weren't planning on doing that. If you get it online from anywhere it's about $100 for the 4GBs.

Hey now, I made one of those! Wasn't that bad :) :)

Gentlemen,

you can place your bet.

We have infos from our server guy from india, that:

ALL (!!!) MacBooks will include a SIM Card Slot like you have on the iPhone ones.

In times with flatrates and EDGE/UMTS, etc. this will be the next standard. Mobile business is also a big step in Apples road map. Kudos after the WWDC!

hardliner

Is it going to be where the optical drive or the Ethernet port USED to be?
