I was able to do it through the ATT site FINALLY.

But here is my question I got a confirmation number and when I go to check it there is no records (but is says wait 24 hours).

So I tried to see if I could re-upgrade and it will let me.

I haven't got the confirmation email yet though.

What should I do?

A few people have said they were able to order on AT&T...how?? I click the "Preorder now" button and put in all my info on the "AT&T Upgrader", it tells me I am eligible for upgrade, and then brings me to the "Choose your iPhone" page. This page only lists the iPhone 3gs and iPhone 4...no iPhone 4s anywhere. Anyone else having this problem?!

Also, a few people have said they called AT&T or Apple to place their orders on the phone. I have tried both but I thought all their phone service centers were closed at this time of night.

Are you using the iPhone App from AT&T? It just told me "we don't support your device" and told me to log into MyAT&T, which I was successful in preordering about 20 P1234's.

Anyone Preorder from a carrier site and still able to get the Applecare+?? under the TOC for Applecare+ you have to purchase at time of purchase of device. of course Verizon doesn't give me the option to buy applecare.

Sprint gives you the option

I'm not sure which capacity is enough, considering the 8 MP photos and the 1080p videos. 16 GB did the job for me for 3 years, but I'm not sure it will in the future.
I also don't want to spend so much money on tech products... MacBook Air 2011 was expensive enough...

Apple got smart....offered a placeholder while carriers got their ***** together. As soon as my reservation was held....ATT came up...worked and completed my order....alls well that ends....well....

Can someone answer my question?

Hey guys! I've been a lurker on MacRumors forums for a while but decided to join.

I ordered the 4S 16Gb in Black successfully on ATT's site about 30 mins ago after being up since 3.

Anyway's, I was also able to SUCCESSFULLY reserve one on Apple's website too before is went down (This was before ATT FINALLY put up their pre-order correctly.

My question is: Will I be able to cancel this reservation with Apple because clearly I don't need to Iphones?

HOPEFULLY SOMEONE WILL ANSWER THIS :D

Glad I stayed up a few minutes past when they seemingly shut down the online interface.

Got my 2 reservations, here's hoping they hold up. G'night y'all!

If you login it AT&T and then once you get to the overview page (the one that shows all your account info) at the bottom, there will be a graphic of an iPhone 4s, click pre-order. It takes you to a different page than the upgrader page. It worked for me! :)

Your iPhone has been reserved.

Your reservation number is:

We will email you at @yahoo.com when it's time to complete your order.
At that time, you can link back to the Apple Store to confirm eligibility and your iPhone voice, data and messaging plans.
You can then place your order, and your new iPhone will be shipped to your door.
You may check the status of your reservation at any time by visiting buyiphone.apple.com/status

I'm All Done

All done. All Ordered. Got all the Emails. My iPhone4s is officially paid for and ready to ship. Oh that Thank You page never looked so good!!

So if I got a reservation does that mean I am guaranteed to get my phone next friday?

I got mine reserved, too. We should get it on the 14th because obviously we chose for it to be shipped and it clearly stated that it would be delivered on the 14th.

Perhaps you missed it trying to click as fast as possible to get through LOL

Dah! I got so excited when I heard my email tone go off, but that's just a confirmation that I had it reserved. Well, at least I have the reassurance. Guess I can go eat something now! And sleep maybe? lol

Couldnt get through on Apple.com , so I thought what the heck I'll try AT&T.

Bam got through 1st time, Pre-ordered, Paid For & Done.

Expected Arrival Date 10/14.

Does anyone know how much space iOS and the included apps take up.

If I buy a 16gb 4S, roughly how much space will be available for my stuff?

TIA

Mac

After two hours on Apple's website, I tried AT&T twice and I got through no problems. Hopefully it'll ship just as fast..:D

Yea Im also doing Verizon. Looks like Verizon's having a problem now

In Japan, pre-orders started at 16:00 on Friday, i.e., two hours ago.

200 hundred people were reported lined in one softbank store in Tokyo.

So much for "It took them 16 months to give us this???" :)

I hope I'm able to secure one!

I got my iPhone 4 on launch day, why is am I being told I need to pay $549 for the 32g iphone 4s?

Looks like Apple took out the eligibility check and ordering and went straight to a reservation to send people later to spread out the load.

Now that was a smart move by Apple..... just give folks a reservation number and screw the online interface to the carriers. I just ordered two of these in black 64GB in a matter of seconds. This should have happened two hours ago.

Too bad they didn't think of this before. It sounds like they were assured by all their carrier partners that they had the capacity, but then after 2 hours of frustration from their very first partner someone made the executive decision to take the site down for a few minutes and then switch to a reservation system.

I wonder if Tim C got a 1am phone call? I can hear him channeling Steve at next Monday's meeting: "Can someone explain to me what the iPhone pre-order system is supposed to do? ..." :D
